[LFP] Participants for a Basic Fantasy RPG Game [Active]

#1 Post by HeyWatchYourMouth! »

Hi there, I'm HeyWatchYourMouth (or just Mouth). I'm here to gauge interest in a Basic Fantasy RPG game.

This game will be played using Basic Fantasy RPG 4th Edition. You will take the role of a small time adventurer, having taken up the role for any number of reasons. Perhaps you are a poor son of a farmer sending money home to your family, a daredevil scouting out caves and dungeons for sport, or someone looking to clear out old castles and ruins to sell off to the next person. In any event, treasure is your gain, and adventuring is the game. Death will be fairly common to the unsuspecting cave diver, but if you keep your wits about you, you'll always live to see another day.
I plan to use elements from most of the officially released campaign books, adventure anthologies, etc., the setting of the game will be the Western Lands as described in the Morgansfort book.

A few notes for rules and extra info:
I plan to be using the basic rules (+ Equipment Emporium) with a few exceptions for the following supplements:
Half Humans, Gnomes, Barbarians, Necromancers, 0 Level Spells, Armor and Shields
Any race/class combination would be allowed. Usual limitations such as score, HP, and weapon handling will still apply. Multiclasses remain within the limits, extending use to Humans.
Survival Rules (Eating, Drinking, Encumbrance) will not apply.

If you guys think anything should be changed, that's why I'm here! Any questions comments or concerns, please address them. I'd be happy to clarify/talk about anything relating to rules, supplements, and plans for the game, and will hopefully see you as a player. Have a nice night.
Shoot your shot kid, and remember to laugh.

Welcome, HeyWatchYourMouth. I can't recall too many Basic Fantasy games being run here, but I'm guessing there'll be an audience for it.

Good luck with your game!

Have been wanting to try out the BFRPG system further, and I have heard great things about their published products.
So would love to join, if possible :D

BFRPG modules are top notch! Great system too. Welcome HWYM!
This is a game about killing things and taking their stuff so you can become more powerful in order to kill bigger things and take even better stuff.
Alethan: I'm good with NOT pressing our luck this time.
mjulius: That's how I know I'm home.
Pulpatoon: The whole point of PbP is to take the scheduling pressure off the game. We're just chatty because we're so eager!
Scott308: ...everyone should be reminded of just how wonderful the people they play games with here can be in real life.
Leitz: Quality and quantity wise, I think US is the best I've seen.
Paladin: I can promise terror, glory, and riches...or a quick and brutal death.
Inferno: Come on! That's was Vicar's Head, a completely different doomed village!
Rex: I can move to the wait list to let someone else into the game.

Perhaps I have overestimated how many people would want to join a Basic Fantasy game, lol

I suspect it has to do with timing more than anything else. Very busy time of year for most people. I am not familiar with the rules but have looked at them in the past so if it is going to be starting up in January I would be interested.

I would also wonder if folks were unfamiliar with your play and DM style. We often have folks join the board, start up a game, and then vanish. On the other hand, some DM's throw out an idea and their game is full before they finish the recruiting post. A lot depends on the DM, and as a new person you are suffering because of what others have done.

Eldedhur and Rex are great players. Start with them and show people how well you run. Plan on a "rest break" where new characters can join up in a month or three. There's probably another two to four on the fence, and as Rex said, this is a busy season. If there's an intro post setting the scene and outlining your thoughts, that might help. If you want to see a high end development, check out Spearmint's Barrowmaze.

Hi Mouth...I'd love to throw my hat in as well. Been a year or more since I've played and itching to get back.
