009: Talking Turkey at the Bartizan
Re: 009: Talking Turkey at the Bartizan
Frank Cross
Frank rarely gets time to go flying these days, and enjoys the opportunity and is impressed with the vehicle. Based on what he has seen so far from their new clients he is certain it will live up to expectations
On arrival back at the Bartizan he eyes the battledress, but resists the temptation for a little longer. He unstraps a device attached to his leg.
"Doctor, are you familiar with these personal medkits? The ones my officers use are manufactured by SuSAG, obtained after their original owners didn't need them any more. They monitor the individual and provide medical assistance when required. They are stocked with a variety of SuSAG pharmaceuticals. They have proved to be very useful in the battlefield and have saved lives on more than one occasion. If they could be created in large quantities then they would save the lives of our mercs, and your people too. I'm not sure how well they might be enhanced, and SuSAG might take offence at you using their design and their pharmaceuticals. Not that I care about the latter, personally."

He looks it over. "I see no reason why I couldn't make these in bulk. Let me deconstruct this one and I can make you a pallet of them right now. I'm not a pharmacologist and am hesitant about attempting to improve something like this that works well from what you say. I'm not the universe's biggest respecter of patents, and I despise companies like SuSag. As Roscoe and Jaelah are making a bid to buy the SuSag facilities you captured--which means the contents are ours by right of conquest, right?--I may be able to get more information on them and the drugs, but I would say I will be firmly on their naughty list going forward no matter what I do."shaidar wrote: ↑Fri Dec 06, 2024 8:41 pm Frank Cross

In a matter of minutes Colonel Cross has a gross of them in plain boxes, stacked on a pallet. "I have enough raw materials on hand to make a lot more, but this should get you started."
For the curious, the five tons of raw materials that make up a fabrication unit is Cr40,000 in value. Applied to 50% of the cost of what is being made, that is how much raw material is needed. The tank was 2881.25 tons of raw materials (576.25 fabrication units at Cr40,000 a pop) = Cr23,050,000 for a tank valued at twice that amount. The battledress around 12 fabrication units and 60 total tons of raw materials. The stores will need to have a freaking warehouse of raw materials to function. Tiglath, what are the stats and cost of this medikit, please?

OOC: This thing is very likely an ancient artefact psi focus/booster. Whatever the psi "bit" does (which is no doubt another rabbit hole of PhD research) isn't relevant to recreating the cracked shielding (containment! ) material which is doable by "simple" replication fabrication.terrymixon wrote: ↑Fri Dec 06, 2024 8:17 pmFor this, Metz will use his main fabricator (Bilis). She replies laconically "That would be useful".Thumper wrote: ↑Thu Dec 05, 2024 10:12 pm Walt leans over to Tourmaline and whispers:
”I doubt the fabricator can repair your, em, item. But I bet Metz, Roscoe, and Bianca can figure out how to patch the leak. It may involve Fabrication…it may not.
If anyone can do it, it’s them. If you stay after, I’ll get them working on it. Let me introduce you. ”
She greets Roscoe with a crushing handshake looking him straight in the eye. Metz, once introduced as a scientist, and Bianca get warm smiles
Only if she feels comfortable will he get her to repair if possible or fill in the crack if not.
Fixed!

"Thank you doctor, these will help immensely. I am not sure exactly what SuSAG produces at their facility on Tarsus, but at the least you might find something useful in their computer systems. If we find anything in the systems on their base on the moon of Rond then I can certainly pass it on. While these units are fully loaded, we have larger containers of the pharmaceuticals in our stores. Would you like me to bring a box of each, so at the very least you can scan them with the device and obtain their pattern?"terrymixon wrote: ↑Fri Dec 06, 2024 8:58 pm

Frank smiles "Not a problem, if you decide to use these medkits for your own troops you'll need them. Give me a moment."
Frank goes on comm to arrange the delivery of the various pharmaceuticals they use in the devices. Once done he heads over to the battle dress, paying particular attention to the officer version.
"Doctor, you must think us rather shallow and... mercenary..." he smiles "by being so easily attracted to such things. May I try this? It seems a shame not too give it a go on the firing range when it's all been set up."

Walt to Tourmaline (and Lannigan…if present):
”I am so happy the fix worked. Hopefully this alleviates the burden and pain the broken version inflicts…which you showed to me! Please tell me if that is what the Doctor ordered.
And I, for one, am excited to learn the art of Telekinesis from you.
I do not know whether the process Bilis used to fill the crack provided her with a pattern. If it did, I request your permission to replicate that artifact for me, Bona and our partners, and those to whom you wish to make such a gift.
If so, my promise to you is that will be the extent of replication without your further permission. I do not wish to take undue advantage of the opportunity to fix your artifact. If you decide not to permit this, I will ask Bilis to purge the pattern, if able. Your decision will be respected.”

"Thank you."
"I'm also one fascinated by making things, so I understand. I'm the same way about robots. I fabricated these items to be used, and there is no shame in being enamored with shiny toys, particularly when they might save your life."shaidar wrote: ↑Sat Dec 07, 2024 3:31 pm Frank goes on comm to arrange the delivery of the various pharmaceuticals they use in the devices. As I said earlier, they are only incrementally better than TL15 battledress. An evolution not a revolution.

Frank keeps mostly stumm (see below) about the fact that his officer team only has TL13 combat armour. It's a money thing.
"Do you have a template for combat armour, doctor? Standard troops here in district 268 tend not to have battledress training."
Frank steps inside the battledress and takes it for a spin on the firing range.

Re: 009: Talking Turkey at the Bartizan
Good bargaining skill there. He's clueless.
"I do. I'll make a set for you."
The TL12 Combat armor (the next level is TL14, so you must have the lower tech version. If not, the TL14 version splits the difference) has the following stats:
Combat Armor, Improved
TL: 12
Protection: 17
Rads: 145
Weight: 16 kg
Cost: Cr88,000
Or Combat Armor, Advanced
Combat Armor, Improved
TL: 14
Protection: 19
Rads: 180
Weight: 12 kg
Cost: Cr160,000
The TL 16 version is this:
Combat Armor, Superior
TL: 16
Protection: 21
Rads: 220
Weight: 8 kg
Cost: Cr220,000
If you've never used battledress, it's an eyeopener. If you have, it's still better than what you've used. Powerful and capable.
Re: 009: Talking Turkey at the Bartizan
Frank has battledress training from his time in the 1188th, which was an imperial merc unit. So this is likely a little more high-tech than he's used to.

Re: 009: Talking Turkey at the Bartizan
What TL were they? 15? If so, just a bit better. Enough to notice and no major changes, just a shade more capable.
Re: 009: Talking Turkey at the Bartizan
AFAIK standard imperial, so TL15? I'm sure Tiglath will correct me if I'm wrong. This is character history prior to the start of our game.
