Frank Cross

The lift continues to descend and the Zhodani craft disappears from view. The next level down sees Colonel Cross waiting for them with a smile. "Lords, ladies, gentleman, and Princesses, welcome to the Bartizan. I apologise for the weather, I hope it clears in time for the target practice later. Colonel Skeet is on his way and will be with us shortly. If you will follow me."

Frank leads the group through a short corridor and into a large room, which looks to be a recently refurbished mess. The room is cleared except for a large table of refreshments with smaller tables and chairs set around it. In another corner of the room is a low berth grav "stretcher". The group recognise T'lia and Frank's senior command team* from yesterday, plus a woman in SEMC uniform that they don't recognise.

"I've arranged a wide variety of refreshments...breakfast, brunch, snacks, and something light for those still recovering from last night. Please help yourselves to to whatever you wish. You know most of the people here, except Regimental Sargent-Major and Quarter-Master Jessyka Henker." he gestures to the woman you don't recognise, who is in her thirties, of slightly above average height and average build with long dark hair up in a 'bun' "The Sargent-Major is very interested in what you have to show us.".

"I hope this space is suitable for the demonstration. It's the first time it's been officially used since we discovered the bodies of the 138 troopers from the 1188th mercenary company, murdered by a SuSAG bioweapon...but don't worry, it is now perfectly safe."

SEMC members present are (PCs in italics):
  • Major Prerna
  • Captain Domici, Bartizan Commander and Head of Training
  • Warrant Officer (1st class) Freya Ingridsdottir, chief technican (the lady wearing the mask from yesterday)
  • Lieutenant Voss, the colonel's adjutant, the one armed man
  • Lieutenant Kit Ghoshal
  • Dzofin, the vagr

(I don't think I've missed anyone)

It might not have room for all three extra-large AutoDocs, the Mondo-large AutoDoc made for The Warlord, and two dozen Surgeon/Nurse Bots. You'll have to decide on that and redirect what needs to be redirected.

Ciencia scowled. "That's horrible! Both that it happened and that they felt they could get away with it. I will assuredly pay for that information and use it to club them over the heads."

Roscoe will introduce those not yet known. "These are Major Fredrick Thomas, the head of Prince Consort William's Guard, Captain Terresa Thomas, his wife and the head of Grand Princess Ciencia's Guard, Doctor Lucius Metz, one of the premiere scientific minds out of Vincennes, who is a leader in the fields of advanced robotics, fabrication technologies, and advanced computers, his wife and assistant Bianca Metz, Spicoli, our resident specialist in computers intrusion and data retrieval, and Jaelah's parents Kris and April, and her younger siblings Peytor and Kimla."

Metz cleared his throat and stepped forward. "If you would like for me to oversee the move of your person from the cryobath to one of the AutoDocs, it can get to working on them. One of the Surgeon Bots would be doing the work during the transfer and the AutoDoc can handle things once the patient is in place. Your associate would be in the best of manipulator, I assure you."

There is a DM-2 for the cryo extraction, but the Surgeon Bot has a DM+8 for very advanced skills.

And the Surgeon Bot is making Metz proud and putting on a very good show.

The AutoDoc will have the patient well in hand. What are the injuries being addressed?

"This isn't the demonstration I need to make for the others, once they are both here. I can do that aboard our ship, and all are welcome to attend," Metz said. "I worked all night to create some elements to the demonstration that have military applications. No rush. It will be available when the time is right."

Prerna almost successfully hides her sadness at the memory - her shoulders slump for a brief moment, and her face loses it's calm professionalism. She takes a breath and recovers, locking eyes with Jaelah as she does.

The dark-skinned woman leads the way with her absurdly handsome husband and her family in tow. She bows slightly to the couple. "Major, and I'm sorry I didn't catch your rank, T'Lia, may I present my mother, father, sister, and brother."

In any event, as the Colonel says, welcome to the Bartizan." She turns to Jaelah's family. "I am Major Prernanayaratl, and this is my wife, Tliablzhdilatl, or Prerna and T'Lia for short."

Roscoe inclined his head. "I'm sorry for your loss. While I don't know the specifics or speed of the bioweapon, the advanced autodocs have all the tools needed to at least attempt a counter to that kind of thing. If you have samples of the weapon, it may be able to prevent any future attack from being effective."

Walt- upon seeing the Zho ship parked at the Bartizan, Walt furrows his brow and asks:
”You harbor the Zho here?”

His face is one of instant concern and alertness.

Frank nods at Ciencia "That is information you can have for free. I suggest you make a request to the Collace Police Department, they will have forensic and other information gathered during their investigation that we do not."

If all the items brought won't fit then I am sure there will be a space where they can be left and a single auto-doc brought forward into the mess. It is a large area.

“We are happy to help, Colonel. The AutoDoc has him now and once someone makes it in alive, it is extremely rare for a patient to be lost. It has a fabricator and bioreactor that will get put Trooper Whiskey back together as good as new.”

He looked at the autodoc. “It will take time, but my connection to the autodoc via my neural link lets me see the status and while it will be a few hours before the surgery is done, it is looking good.”

Frank looks at the advanced auto doc with interest "Thank you doctor. My people will need to be trained on it's use and it's maintenance." he looks thoughtful for a moment "Can it replace lost limbs? I mean ones lost a while ago, not a fresh wound."

Check with Tiglath, but Whiskey may have been briefly dead before he was iced when he couldn't be resusitated. Hopefully not an issue.

“Yes, it can. It can regrow literally any part of a patient’s body, no matter how long has passed. I’ve seen it replace someone’s eyes after years of using artificial ones.

“I’ll provide all the parts needed and have full manuals. It would be best if I interface with a medical professional—or many of them—and get them on the road to mastering this new technology.”

Frank looks at Voss "Mr Voss, something for you to consider." he then looks back to Dr Metz "Of course, I'm happy to do a tour of our medical facilities and introduce you to our medical team, and show you around the rest of the Bartizan, for all of those interested in such a tour. Before or after your demonstrations, as you prefer. We provide free out-patient medical care to the locals, and those needed more extensive care are brought to our facilities here, again free of charge."

Kit

Kit hangs back keeping a watchful eye on the space. With more traffic and certainly more high profile traffic he remains vigilant, or at least tries too.

“I would enjoy that. Both the autodocs and surgeon bots have near sentient robotic brains and are more than capable of running the training and operating independently if required. They can hear and speak, and will develop appropriate personalities as they are used. If they see a problem, they will speak up and educate your team to better oversee them.

“We should probably take care of the negotiations first. If you have no objection, I will hold my demonstration just before the live fire exercise. That would be perfect, actually.

“I love that you are helping others. We want to do the same, in our way. I look forward to seeing what we come up with.”

"That sounds fine. I will admit our relationship with the locals is not completely altruistic. Being good neighbours and having happier and healthier locals is advantagous for the SEMC too. It helps to prevent the return of the local gangs, but it's a win-win situation."

Voss seems staggered "Yes... if such a thing is possible".

Skeet enters looking slightly jaded but nevertheless professionally prepared for the business meeting.

“Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain” ;) :)

I'm keeping out of the way and letting you get on...

A note re: space the mess hall is capable of seating hundreds and so has plenty of room. A more enclosed meeting space is available (the old officer's mess) if required.

Whisky is only "mostly dead" (having been hit by a RAM grenade fired by an Avastan VDV sergeant while defending the very lift everyone just used) but was triaged in good time for preservation if not treatment hence being frozen (when the autodoc read "Tilt").

Then see above. The repairs are underway, and the prognosis is excellent based on the rolls. It will take a few hours for the surgery and regeneration of the replacements for everything that is damaged, and then Whiskey will spend a day in the autodoc under Slow Drug to let everything mend. When he/she comes out tomorrow, it will be as if nothing happened. No recovery time, no lingering pain. Nothing.

It has other capabilities but those will have to wait for a full briefing on the device. As that would likely be an NPC talking to an NPC, I'll post what I told Tiglith here with a few light tweaks.

As he probably made one set too many, he'll end up donating the extras to make a public-facing clinic to help the poor and needy like the work Colonel Cross mentioned. In fact, he'll just give him the extras for that purpose and make more if needed.

Since the briefing would be between NPCs, I'll just post what I told Tiglith here, so that the information is out there.

Here are stats and details on the new equipment that the mercs can enjoy long after we have parted ways.

First is an Aslan-sized Deluxe Autodoc with added bells and whistles. It has the added functionality to be a cryoberth for really injured people, has a nanobot generator and applicator for those adventurous souls that want to use it.

It has also been made compatible with Aslan, Vargr, and Droyne in addition to all flavors of human. No negative DM for any of those species and the unit has medic skills and positive DMs to make it far better than anything seen before. If someone dies now, it is not the fault of the equipment.

A normal Autodoc has a chamber about 1 meter by 1 meter by 2 meters. This one is 1.25 meters by 1.25 meters by 2.5 meters. It will handle normal Aslan, but not the Warlord.

The software is something that Metz had on hand, so while it is as valuable as the larger number, making it cost 1/2 of the smaller sum in raw materials. Metz considers that nothing, but anyone with medical skills will know how much the TL16 device is actually worth. A bloody fortune. (~MCr100 in just the hardware (1 autodoc and 6 surgeon bots) per merc unit. With the advanced software, that would be ~BCr1.226 in value per merc unit. Also, the software is encrypted at higher than TL16 and not extractable. Metz has to protect his stash from getting out.)

And they're just giving it away as a gift. ;)

As even the large units are too small for the Warlord, Metz made the one for the Aslan mercenaries even bigger. It's chamber measures 1.5625 meters by 1.5625 meters by 3.125 meters. He believes it will be enough but can go larger if required.

While it can hold multiple people, it can only work on one patient at a time.

It has the same functionality thought some of the interior compartments are different (larger) sizes. It also has four interior arms rather than two to help move large patients and work on them effectively and efficiently.

It has been programed to heal injuries but leave external scars unless told to remove them. This is to cater to the Aslan warriors' honor. All that will be explained to whoever takes it from him.

It has medic 8 in Human, Aslan, Vargr, and Droyne. All the other equipment does too.

The surgeon bot is a little larger than before and now is on walkers to give it better mobility in field conditions. The ones for the regular mercenaries are a mix of male and female appearing, but the ones for the Aslan are all female appearing.

Rather than give them some surgeons and some nurses, Metz chose to combine the skills and equipment into a single unit. He has six per Autodoc and they are just as skilled as the Autodoc and can work on wounded that do not immediately need the Autodoc. That is the equivalent of seven extremely skilled surgeons in a field hospital. If asked, he would be glad to provide more if requested.

One thing I left out of the description is that these robots and autodocs have self-aware 16 robotic brains. These are near sentient intelligences, almost but not quite actual beings. They are literally as close as can be without getting an actual digital intelligence. They can interact as if they were sentient, but it's a very clever act and not quite real. They'll have personalities that are molded on what their users seem to expect.

Also, here are details on what the medical nanos can do. The autodocs can generate them with 1/2 the price in raw materials and apply them. The autodocs come with a swarm controller to get them working as needed, and the nanos are TL16 for any needed calculations. That means they are active for 8 years and for age reduction, they retard aging by 95%. The rest of the progression is detailed in the text below.
