What would YOU like to play or run? (Interest Catch-all)

I can promise terror, glory, and riches...or a quick and brutal death.

Depends on the players and DM as to what they expect I believe. Some folks do want to suss out what the red dragon must eat all holed up in his cave or dungeon. Some not so much.
Gary may have talked ecology in the DMG, but when he wanted to add something crazy to his famed castle, he just say "here's a demi-plane" or whatever. (Though I think, with early TSR at least, poor editing and proof-reading probably had more to do with the wacky dungeon dimensions and mismatched monsters than anything else.)

Some folks want to do demesne level of play, and others want to spend time in the dungeon. I think that there are a lot more role players out there in the wild world nowadays than roll players. My oldest DMed her siblings and I and our friends in a 5e game and she was asking us to be descriptive in describing the death blow - something I just do as a DM in my 1e games. Both ways are fun for all.

Super interesting topic though!!
This is a game about killing things and taking their stuff so you can become more powerful in order to kill bigger things and take even better stuff.

Scott308: ...everyone should be reminded of just how wonderful the people they play games with here can be in real life.
Leitz: Quality and quantity wise, I think US is the best I've seen.
Paladin: I can promise terror, glory, and riches...or a quick and brutal death.
Inferno: Come on! That's was Vicar's Head, a completely different doomed village!
Rex: I can move to the wait list to let someone else into the game.

Depends on the mood. Sometimes I am in the mood for lots of detail and everything needs to make sense (see my Harn game for an attempt at this anyways). Other times I am looking for an evening of just spending some time with friends and don't really care what we play or what happens.

Maybe this is a trend? I played 5e at a tabletop games expo a few weeks ago and the DM had us to that.

True.

Maybe accepted instead of preferred.

Or, do players expect more?
I like a mix of both.

He may not be the first to do it, but this was at least popularized by Matt Mercer, the primary DM on Critical Role:

Would there be any interest in playing this (attached)?
There are discontented nobles in Zul-Bazzir who conspire against the padishah of Khazistan. In the lamp-lit sitting rooms of their marble-walled mansions, they scheme and plot to overthrow the great king’s governor, Khadim Bey, and to seize control of Zul-Bazzir. Whispers of treason have reached the bey’s ears, but as yet the traitors remain nameless and unknown. To aid the governor, the padishah has sent a personal agent to Zul-Bazzir, to help infiltrate and identify the disloyal nobles.

Ah. I watched some "Critical Role" when I was first checking out getting back into D&D after around three decades. I left off at 1E, and it was pretty amazing to see that the game had evolved into something that actor DMs and players make a professional livelihood doing. I played live on Discord and Roll20 for a while, and it seemed that doing the heavy RP acting voices thing was popular with maybe a third of people, with the rest just saying what their character does.

Alas, I have no headspace for more complicated / slower rules.

That could work, or maybe the Fail States RPG linked in your sig.

I realized after I posted that you're the author of 24XXoth  and I might have been a bit harsh. It actually looks to me like a lite version of Savage Worlds, which would be a good thing, except I see nothing about how to track combat turns or injury. (All rolls are to avoid risk, so does that mean if I fail my Melee skill roll I get hit in melee? Is it the same for Shooting? Is a 1-2 a lethal wound and 3-4 an incremental wound?)

1-2 for melee could be a fatal blow, 3-4 could be a wound that hinders you. If you roll 1-2 for shooting you snap your bow string, drop your sling, are out of ammo, ... but still might hit the target.

edit to add: I wish it were possible to link Discord chats here, I have been in a couple of great 24XX games there that fully demonstrate how well the rules work for play by post. But there also is at least one good game on here.

Yet another option is Ouroboros d12.

Hola,

I might want to run a one-shot of one of the following. I'm listing them in my order of preference. Would you be interested in playing?

1. Humanspace Empires, a fan-made RPG based on OD&D rules and set in the universe of M.A.R. Barker's Tékumel in 62,000 AD. (Rules are open source.)

2. As #1, but augmented with compatible rules and elements of Stars without Number.

3. Lovecraftian/Lumleyan space horror using Savage Worlds.

4. As #3 but using d100 Call of Cthulhu/Pulp Cthulhu rules, more specifically Cthulhu Rising, a Chaosium monograph for horror adventures set in the 23rd century.

5. Mothership RPG. (This is last on the list because I've never played it, and own only the player's guide.)
Hvalreki's Repo Men (CT): Gabe Garcia, 7A8772 age 22 (1 term Marines); Autorifle-1, Cutlass-2, Tactics-1, Vacc-1.
OM's Wandering Windswept Wastelands (Hyperborea 3e): Magda thugatêr Erebos, 2nd level Ixian Witch
Spearmint's Barrowmaze (1e): Elbart, 1st level human 'riverman'

Hey, I have just joined looking for new, more active pbp forums. I have an idea for a sword and sandals type game with the Fantasy Age system. I'm going to post a link to my r/pbp advert if anyone would like to take a gander and give me a sense if I should set up a recruitment thread here (I'd be totally willing to run it here if there's enough interest): https://www.reddit.com/r/pbp/comments/1 ... se_of_the/

Welcome Sebecloki! You can also introduce yourself more over here: viewforum.php?f=43
But this is a pretty active PbP focused forum, I'm guessing you'll find at least a few ganders and some joiners. Best of luck and welcome!!

PS: your first two posts are Moderated, so it may be a delay in seeing your post at first. After the two posts are approved, then you can post without delay, use the Private Message system, and run and join games! :)
PPS: All are welcome too, so if you get a few bites over on Reddit, and you see how awesome this place is to run a game, have those folks come our way!
This is a game about killing things and taking their stuff so you can become more powerful in order to kill bigger things and take even better stuff.
Alethan: I'm good with NOT pressing our luck this time.
mjulius: That's how I know I'm home.
Pulpatoon: The whole point of PbP is to take the scheduling pressure off the game. We're just chatty because we're so eager!
Scott308: ...everyone should be reminded of just how wonderful the people they play games with here can be in real life.
Leitz: Quality and quantity wise, I think US is the best I've seen.
Paladin: I can promise terror, glory, and riches...or a quick and brutal death.

I myself much prefer forums because I don't like the Discord character limit for posts, but I feel like the times have changed since I started doing this in earnest in about 2018. I'd just play on forums, but I've tried recently recruiting on gitp, mythweavers, and rpol without much success for different ideas, so I'm still looking for relatively active spaces -- this place seems to have a good amount of activity and the games have been going on longer, with more posts, and recent posts.
