Kainaxarthos

"You heard him! Get to shore and away from the water!"

Without ranged weapons beyond his whip, Kain will hold torches for anyone who needs both hands.

Cyril

Caught between fumbling for his sling and wanting to run from the beast, Cyril is the last off his raft, trying to run as fast and as far as he can up the shore.

"Apologies for my long silence. Azathoth has released his control over my tongue. I'm with you once again."

Magda: combat actions

Taking a chance, Magda flings the dart in her hand forcefully at the top end of the ten-foot tall worm, hoping to minimize any risk of hitting Akhilleus. She then draws another dart smoothly from her sash and casts it as well.

Throw War Dart (2/1, FA 0, range unknown) [1d20]=20; damage [1d3+1]=3+1=4

Throw War Dart (2/1, FA 0, range unknown) [1d20]=14; damage [1d3+1]=3+1=4

Not sure of her range to the monster; medium is 15-30 feet (-2 to hit) and long is 30-45 feet (-5). Also forgot what else to roll for a crit.

Under The Zakath Desert
Uncertainty
No Idea On Time Or Day

Still well within the things grasp, Akhilleus attempts another swing, unable to penetrate the soft underneath bits. Though he seems hesitant to do so himself, he calls for the others to retreat. (are you attempting a Fighting Withdrawal here?)

Sik charges the beast with his torch, burning a small portion of its stinking flesh. This allows the others to pull their water crafts far enough away from the fight, eliminating the danger of them being damaged.

Xenos casts a spell that he can put to use shortly, his fingertips starting to tingle slightly.

A pair of well placed darts from Magda happens last as the others flee for safety. Both hit the huge thing, and one of them must damage a sensitive area, as the monster rears backwards temporarily from the pain, disrupting its next attack upon Akhilleus badly, allowing everyone time to escape immediate danger, if they wish.

"Ha!" Magda gloats briefly as the monster reels from her lucky shot.

"But let's be off. Which way, Kain?"

Sik pull out his axe, and shouts, "Where are we withdrawing to? Someone find us a way!"

fighting conservatively: [1d20-1]=12-1=11 damage with battle axe [1d10+1]=2+1=3

Sik fights conservatively, (+1 AC) while doing a half move fighting withdrawal. He is also yelling loudly, making animalistic whooping sounds, trying to get the creature's attention.

Cyril is hoping he is out of the thing's melee range. He pulls out his sling and lets fly with a stone.

Kainaxarthos

Kain takes the torch from Taibhse and turns away from the water, trying to find a place to go. Further south and east along the beach?

Magda: edit

Whist quite wary of the huge many-limbed river creature, Magda is nevertheless cheered by her companions' willingness to fight it, and possibly even land a few hits. She moves down the shoreline to the [south & east], keeping the water to her left and land to her right; meanwhile she's unwrapping her own sling from around her arm and fitting a bullet to it. Once she's about thirty feet from the monster she turns around, and again aims high before releasing her missile.

Sling (1/1, FA 0, within 50ft) [1d20] = 8 ; Damage [1d4+1]=4+1 = 5

In reply, the witch's singsong voice pierces through the sounds of battle:
"Methinks this way, if we should leave;
but can we slay the worm, if only we believe?
"

OOC: If we follow [Kain & Magda] and don't get blocked by the weird ancient structures, I think we'll end up on the western shore of the underground river (back to where the dwarf caves were?) This is my guess based on the various maps and on the description below: viewtopic.php?p=720395

Xenos

Xenos joins Sik in a fighting withdrawl:

Scimitar (long): to-hit [1d20+2]=14+2=16, damage [1d8+3]=4+3=7

In case it's a hit, here is the damage from Chill Touch:

Chill Touch dmg: [1d4]=1

 Not even close.

Under The Zakath Desert
West Is The Best
No Idea On Time Or Day

After a bit of confusion over fighting or running, a few more shots are taken against the hideous monster as the frontline fighters begin their retreat.

The now wounded monster does not exit the water fully, allowing the group to pull away from it completely. It slithers back into the black water and disappears under the surface.

Their escape from the domed island and the natural current of the waterway has left them somewhere along the western bank of this underground river, in between the last abandoned metallic structure and the gravelly beach.

Current options appear to be either climbing up the sheer face of the 60 foot cliff wall, walking towards the east along the shoreline to eventually get south again, or wading back into the water to let the current take them wherever it will.

Sik lights another torch having lost his old one in the water.

"I don't recall that the shoreline by the Matron's but extended out much further - I think we will need to take the boats if we wish to get back. But I'm not sure if I want to chance it with that thing out there. Maybe we make camp beside these structures and see if we can think of a way to help Drest."

Akhilleus

"Another option would be to investigate these structures or just walk to the north following the coast. Mayhaps there's a way to walk up the cliff in a less rough spot.

But I think taking the boats and going back where we came from is safer now. I don't think that beast wants to return. From there we can go back to the Matron's by foot."

Should we start a poll? :D

Cyril

"I could be amenable to cautiously exploring the water route again, after a suitable amount of time has passed for our wormlike 'friend'. That could be either resting here, since I believe we need it or just waiting 20 minutes or so."

Xenos

"The smaller building, on the end here. If it is safe, it would be easier than going all the way back to the hut and having to return after we rest. If we could find a room with a single entrance then we should be able to secure it sufficiently. But I will go with whatever the majority think is best."

Kainaxarthos

"Catching our breath is fine. But let's look over our options before staying in that structure. It gives me the ick."

Kain extends a hand to Magda. "Care to take a stroll along the beach? Bring your lantern." He intends to explore to the east, along the cliff wall, hoping that there may be a small strip of land heading to the south.

Under The Zakath Desert
Drest Needs His Rest
No Idea On Time Or Day

While the party looks around at the weird vacant metal structures, wondering if they could simply camp inside one of them for now, Kain takes Magda for a walk down the stony beach.

It doesn't take long before they reach the end of the gravel shoreline where it changes back into sheer cliff walls again, disrupting further passage.

However, there is a clear and obvious stone ledge in the cliff face about 10 feet above the beach, right at its terminus. When Kain boost Magda up for a look over the ledge, the Witch is shocked to find a long black stairway leading up into the darkness there.
