Hi, Unseen Ones,
This is for sizing up interest for the medium-far future, meaning at least months. I have the The New Era version of Traveller, and by far it's my favorite sub-setting. I'm trying to decide whether to slowly start to re-familiarize myself with the book and the world.
I've seen some Traveller games here, so I'm curious if TNE is just missing accidentally, or because it isn't really liked here.
Thanks for your insights.

Re: Interest Check | Traveller TNE
Point of inquiry: What did you have in mind? TNE had a reputation for being VERY different games depending on where you were. Are you thinking about VIRUS and vampire fleets? Do you have the later REGENCY stuff in mind? Pushing out into dying worlds to loot ruins and avoid crazy desperate people? I think there is an Empress Wave thing and psionic madness (but never encountered it too closely to understand the details).
Personally, I like the TECHNOLOGY of FF&S and I like the more “Wild West” feel of the post Imperium, but I found most of the details of the TNE setting to be a little too dark for my personal taste.

Re: Interest Check | Traveller TNE
So far, I don't really have a plan, only a rather vague idea. A player crew as part of / allied with the RCES, trading and scouting. Exploration, finding new ruins, new pocket empires, new trading opportunities, and even doing good, by helping topple tyrants and 'evil' groups.
I also entertain the idea that later in the game every player makes another character, an RCES special ops team member, who can do precision strikes after the trader/scouts relay enough intelligence to enable that.

Never played an RCES based game. Any chance of this starting?
Re: Interest Check | Traveller TNE
Welcome to Unseen Servant! It's good to see another "Fellow Traveller" here!
I've been a Traveller since 1977 and have played or run every edition except Hero Traveller and T5.
Now days I tend to run a very loose set of rules that draws from CT with 6/8/A tasks, MongTv1 & Cephesus Engine SRD for details. Mostly, I go by the philosophy: "If it makes sense try it, if it might fail roll something, and we'll see what happens." The TNE rules, GDW's House rules, have never quite appealed to me...the shift away from 2d6 for one thing...different styles, I guess.
Settings I've run have been all over the place from MTU to OTU and everywhere in between. Straight up VIRUS/Vampire Fleets, though I never could deal with...as myths from the distant past, yes, but not straight up. That was too dark for my tastes (hard to suspend disbelief for me too. I always thought a drawn out, thoroughly awful Rebellion/Hard Times followed by whatever the Empress Wave was should have been enough to dissolve Known Space into a "points of light" setting...and that's pretty much what an RCES setting is all about. Points of Light trying to find and reignite some of the cinders of civilization in the "Great Dark."
I'm playing in 2 and running 2 games, so I don't know if I could take on another. I'm playing in Al Pollard's Backwater (Traveller) and Nemesis' Chronicles From the Vale (Basic Fantasy) and running both The Spinward Main (Traveller), The Western Lands (Shadowdark). I got so busy with these four (and RL) I had to drop out of Terry Mixon's Billion Credit Bounty(Mong Tv2), so adding something else is probably out of the question unless it is very, very, slow.
However, I always love to see more Traveller on Unseen Servant. If you have the itch, I'm sure there will be people here to help you scratch it.
