Y2156.11.19 morning

Y2156.11.19 morning - The COLONY - (DJ)
DJ dedicated the morning to closing his deal with the Fresh Fruit. He had purchased 10 tonnes for Cr 7000 and hauled them back to Brulantfort in his rented truck. DJ then paid Cr 300 cash to a trucker at the COLONY to have them delivered to a waiting buyer who paid Cr 12,000 (also in cash) for the fruit. When the trucker returned and placed the cash in DJ’s hand … the appeal of the COLONY and its “barter economy” became very tangible to DJ. He had just earned Cr 4700 profit with no digital record to charge a 55% tax against.

If DJ stored the cash as cash, he need never record it as income. If he deposited it, he could subtract expenses but it would become revenue towards taxable income. The COMPANY was going to need someone with ADMIN-3 to file the paperwork to keep them in compliance with Corporate and Tax laws. Perhaps not immediately, but before the end of the year. For now, DJ was winging it with his ADMIN-0.

Y2156.11.19 morning - Brulantfort to St. Oyland - (Hol & Tut)
The weather report indicated several days of clear weather ahead … stiflingly hot, but no rain or significant winds expected. Hol and Tut set out at first light (0600) with a planned 9 hour flight, a 9 hour layover in St Oyland, and the 9 hour return flight.

The “Bush Plane” was actually a Transonic Flying Boat waiting at a nearby dock at the coast (about an hour from Brulantfort). The craft held a payload of 2 tonnes and was made from advanced composites with a Grav Propulsion and an 800 kph cruise speed. Hol suspected the craft might be capable of flying close to the ground and remaining invisible to radar tracking … It was a plane built for smuggling.

Fortunately, Hol and Tut just had a simple passenger and cargo run to a remote Arctic community. It looks like you would be using those Arctic Clothes after all. From the smells of citrus and spices given off by the cargo as you loaded the 600 kgs aboard, it was going to be a pleasantly aromatic supply run.

Y2156.11.19 afternoon

Y2156.11.19 afternoon - The COLONY - (DJ)
Having spent the morning both impatiently waiting to hear about the fruit delivery and conducting a detailed catalog, inventory and test of the electronics on the MD parts (when one is selling USED parts for Cr 175,000 per tonne, the more data and certification one can offer the better … Fortunately, DJ knew a little something about ELECTRONICS.

Putting out feelers, DJ was able to locate a buyer. They liked the parts and the certification, but were concerned about the location. They needed the parts at the Downport in time for liftoff. The good news was they were prepared to pay Cr 525,000 for the two tonnes [Cr 350,000 FMV]. The bad news was that to make the flight, the deal needed to be closed by 1100 tomorrow to make the afternoon Grav Shuttle back to Montsoliel.
Sell parts (locate buyer) = roll [7] = minimal success
Sell parts (price) = roll [8]+3 = 11 = 150% x Cr 175,000 = MCr 0.2625/tonne [x 2 tonnes]
Sale Price = Cr 525k
Broker Fee (5%) = Cr 26,250 [expenses = Cr 13,125]
Deal is soft at that price, so you need to close by Y2156.11.20:1100
Y2156.11.19 afternoon - St. Oyland - (Hol, Tut, Joe & Mick)
The plane and cargo set down on St Oyland around 1500, after sunset but before it was fully dark. You had the coordinates and were given the exact (unused) frequency to tune in to for the short range locator beacon. As you flew over hundreds of square kilometers of treeless frozen snow covered NOTHING, you finally detected the beacon at less than 50km range and visually located the light of a dome at the designated coordinates. There was no landing field or landing beacon. There was no control tower to direct you in. Your only confirmation that you were at the right location came from the private COMM link with Joe and Mick waiting to meet you.

You lined up the final approach with a snow-covered road leading to the settlement, extended the extreme wing edges to reduce the stall speed, lowered the large, soft wheels and set the “Bush Plane” down on the hard slick road. You came to a stop near a waiting Tracked Arctic Crawler whose lights had marked the end of the airfield. Joe and Mick were waiting to help unload the 600 kg cargo from the aircraft and into the Crawler. The four of you then climbed into the crawler and drove through the tunnel and into the domed greenhouse that was St. Oyland.

Hol and Tut didn’t know where to look first. Everything was strange. There were rings of terraced gardens in the center surrounding a steaming pond. There was a softly glowing dome overhead that blocked out the stars, but created a lush kilometer diameter greenhouse in the middle of a sub-zero arctic waste devoid of even trees or grasses. Along one side of the spherical dome, silo-like towers of stone and wood and glass and carved balconies stretched upward perhaps ten stories high to meet the curve of the dome.

The Crawler stopped and people swarmed it to unload it with practiced efficiency.
“Blue Clan” was all Mick said as he led the newcomers to the local eatery. Catherine had promised to inspect the partial cargo and have a partial cargo of equal value loaded aboard the Crawler tonight.

The plan was to talk about an hour, sleep eight hours, and head out around midnight. That would place you landing near Brulantfort at about 0900 in the daylight.
Landing = roll [9] = success
Cargo to St. Oyland: 600 kg (Electronics, Spices, Dyes, Seeds, Fruit) [Cr 4200 FMV]
Catherine Payment = Cr 5460.

Y2156.11.20 morning

#28 Post by atpollard »

Y2156.11.20 morning - The COLONY - (DJ)
As the Speculative Cargo was being loaded aboard the plane, Joe contacted DJ via COMM at ungodly-dark-thirty in the AM with a list of the goods heading his way.

Lots of coffee later, DJ was back at work locating buyers for:
150 kg Crystals (Cr3k)
150 kg Animal Skins (Cr3k)
150 kg organic oils (Cr 300)
150 kg meat (Cr 225)

DJ started with the local COLONY market since the quantities were so small. The Organic Oils were barely listed on the local “shopper” [a clearing house of coded messages for locals looking to “barter” and a great source of leads even on commercial sales] when DJ received an offer of Cr 360.

At 0800, DJ was enjoying breakfast when a Commercial Offer came in from the Factory [15] for the Crystals. They were offering Cr 4500.

Animal Skins stirred some interest around 1000 with an offer of Cr 3300 cash from the local Clothing Store [17].

There was no local interest in exotic meat.
Organic Oil (locate buyer) = roll [11] … price roll [8]+1 = 120%
Crystals (locate buyer) = roll [8] … price roll [11]+0 = 150%
Animal Skins (locate buyer) = roll [6] … price roll [8]+0 = 110%
Meat (locate buyer) = roll [5] … none found today.
Y2156.11.20 morning - St. Oyland to Brulantfort - (Hol, Tut, Joe & Mick)
Just after midnight, the 600 kg speculative cargo and Mick’s weapons were loaded aboard the plane and it departed St. Oyland with its 4 passengers. The approach and landing on the water near Brulantfort were textbook perfect and the plane slid into its dock along the coast at 0900 where Tut’s rented pickup was waiting. The cargo was transferred and the weapons, which looked to Tut like handheld artillery, were covered with the old tarp to make them less conspicuous. Everyone then headed back to Building 12 to meet up with DJ. You sent a COMM that you would meet him there around 1030.
Landing = roll [11] = high success
Speculative Cargo = 600 kg mixed cargo @ Cr 6525 FMV [Cr 4568 purchase Price] … 150 kg Crystals (Cr3k); 150 kg Animal Skins (Cr3k); 150 kg organic oils (Cr 300);150 kg meat (Cr 225) … the COMPANY chose to wait on the Pharmaceuticals until you had conducted more research.

DJ

DJ makes sure there are pitchers of beer ready, and the information on the parts is to hand.

As soon as the others turn up he barely waits for them to sit down.

"Welcome back. Pour yourself a drink while I talk, we don't have much time." he looks at Tut and Hol "I've got a great deal for your parts, but we need to close the deal by 11 to catch the transport, or you'll be flying them yourself. " he takes them through the details of the offer, including the broker fee (outlined in the post further up)

"What do ya think. It's a pretty sweet deal. I'd prefer to take the brokers fee in cash if possible."

DJ takes a deep drink of beer before continuing.

"Great, let's sign the approval on the deal, then we can talk about this other stuff and I can bring Mick and Joe up to date with the materials you brought back with you." he looks at Mick and Joe "Don't worry I'm putting it all back into the company."

Y2156.11.20 morning the COLONY (District 0) Brulatfort - (Chester)

#34 Post by atpollard »

Hidden to try again later.
Y2156.11.20 morning the COLONY (District 0) Brulatfort - (Chester)
The DOJ wasted no time. People were there to pack and move you in the morning. The Transport from Ville d’Espoir to Brulantfort arrived at the landing pad with 4 passengers and a truck waiting to collect your belongings. It delivered you to a structure in the woods about the size of an Advance Base that had a rent of only Cr 300 per month … so the Flint Family was set up to live well on Chester’s pay. [M near #5]

The truck drove you all in and people unloaded your belongings into the house. The twins were crazy excited about the woods [the Ville d'Espoir Arcology had nothing like an old growth rainforest] but required constant reminders to keep their masks on. Everyone was hungry and a friendly local lady that made kinetic sculptures out of stained glass pointed you in the direction of “Building 12” … she said that was its name and it was a pretty good diner. Just tell Alice that Beth sent you.

Chester led his family into the Diner, quickly located Alice who practically adopted your twins on the spot, and sat you at a booth away from the Bar. As Chester pondered the task of searching the jungle for survivalists with a 2:1 kill ratio against the last Marines they fought, he wondered how early was too early for a Beer.

The twins were debating hot dogs for breakfast with their mother when Chester recognized one of the men at a nearby table as Joe Black … a spacer that the Marine knew from more than one Bar.

Mick-
Up in St Oyland, Mick greets Tut with a big hug and cordially shakes Hol's hand. "Good to see you haven't gone off and gotten yourself dead yet, Tut! We have some little time here. Got some dealing to do and some sleep to catch. Better be quick to get the deal done.

After the exchange of goods, Mick takes them all to dinner where he introduces Tut and Hol to Sophia and to Marcel. They have dinner and a couple beers together, then recommends they head to bed. Mick stays out with Sophia walking the garden their last and unexpected evening together. He expects she'll see them off first thing in the morning.

On the flight out, Mick can be seen scoping out the wildlife of the Arctic with his high tech binos. When out over the ocean, he racks out in his seat...he can knock out anywhere. He also carries on the plane a whole slew of guns in the crate with meat.

----
On arrival, he calculates the cost of this plane trip and calculates a profit. (1860cr in cargo profit and 1880 in STOL Bush Plane rental. The payment for our export from ST Outland was the merchandised imported into St Outland, correct?) Hey, the trade paid for the cost of retrieving Mick and Joe…and it established their initial trade network…all for 20cr. Wish we had turned a profit, but not bad to get things established).

He concludes, the registered company is going to have to show some trades. This minimal loss might as well get reported on our tax account, as well as some fudged profit from the fruit trade. I’ll show this week’s activity as a small gain, but the blockhead bureaucrats will be really happy to see they are paying standard 55% taxes on actual revenue. If they review our account, it’s best we show a little after tax income sufficient to scrape out a basic living income. That should keep them off their backs for a while. It's a good idea to occasionally report small profits even on those trades can't really be traced in addition to the officially commercial reportables..."Otherwise the blockheads think the companies running around the bush are dishonest.'. He states: "I'll file that paperwork after brunch. I can easily wash DJ's transaction in with that filing so we pay no taxes on that 4700cr. You'll go broke paying for the excesses of the Cities if you play by their rules. The Blockheads really only serve the non-self-reliant...the City folk. Outside of the domes, we get shafted otherwise."

He will remind Tut and Hol that any beer they drink before flying again that day should really be non-alcoholic beer. "8 hours bottle to throttle! I break a lot of rules, but not safety ones.

"Well, when you get back, I'll be around. I think I'm going to stay in one of those rooms Val got for us all...right down the road there. Turning to Joe and DJ: "I think I know a place I can stash all these things we brought back were not supposed to have in the domes. They might not even like it with this quantity this close...so I know a place, I think. I'll slip out of my room after dark and make a deposit in an organic "safe deposit box". But we have to find a place to put all this Northern meat on ice real quick. I guess I'll do that first. Good to see my dirtbike's still parked out front of here."

Does Mick know anybody from his past that’s a bit of a quack mystic that now he suspects is a psionic and specifically a telepath? He’ll wrack his brain. On the boring parts of the plane ride down.

He’ll do a little search for a book store or digital library in the Colony that might have something about psionics and specifically telepaths. Anything to tell him what differing paths of psi are capable of. Maybe an old text book or government law enforcement text approaching this from the perspective of anti-psi. He’ll pass it off as he’s entertained by conspiracy theories and laughs at quacks.

Anytime he comes close to animals, he’ll try practicing his Animal Calming effect. Always seeking control and practice. He’ll continue practicing Sophia’s breath control and meditation techniques.

Joe shook hands with the newcomers and introduced himself, "I'm Joe Black, temporarily grounded spacer. Glad to meet you two. DJ had good things to say about you both." Then he went to work helping the locals unload the cargo, keeping track of exactly what came off the plane.

"I'll meet you at the cafe in a bit." Joe calls to Mick, "Just want to make sure everything is to Catherine's satisfaction with the delivery."

It shouldn't take long, if everything is okay with the delivery. So hopefully Joe arrives at the Cafe, with cash in pocket, not too much after the others, joining them for dinner.

Y2156.11.20:1130 - The COLONY - Building 12 - (DJ, Hol, Joe, Mick & Tut)
With the paperwork signed and the parts confirmed on the Shuttle to Montsoliel, DJ informed the buyer and the Starport Inspection team to be ready for their arrival. All the paperwork was in place to breeze through inspection and be loaded aboard their transport. Now it was time for DJ to update the partners, old and new. He shared his data (for which DJ was grateful to Bart for setting up the forms so he just needed to enter the data to keep it up to date). Starting with Val’s Cr 142,000 nest egg which she abandoned as a gift to cousin DJ and the company when she returned to the dangers she knew - gambling and socialites. Then DJ ran through the company report from 11.6 to 11.9 when Bart made a payout for the Arctic Comm Job and the COMPANY downsized with the loss of people that decided this was not the life for them.

DJ then explained that, given the current direction of things, he credited the Cr 350,000 of MD Parts as a “buy in” for Hol and Tut and then calculated a new “dividend payout” for the growth from 11.9 to today and included the new partners in the payout. It comes to Cr 16,285 each with a COMPANY balance of just over MCr 2.
