William will move behind the interviewee's as a looming presence. He left the grav pistol laying in the middle of the table pointing to where the interview would take place. William nods to Jaelah and gives her a slight smile.

So noted.
"I hope you unloaded it," Roscoe said over the link.
Re: 006: Welcome to Yamaguchi Starport
Garvin ensures that the weapon is beyond the interviewee's reach as he adds "Ruddy 'ell, that's why I moved me knives! Is 'e goin' for the negligent 'omicide 'at trick??? 'E'll be carvin' notches in it next!"

Typically I add locks to all of my firearms that are individually keyed to prevent what just happened.

I don't have bio encoded gun locks in my universe. Too complicated and prone to failure at the wrong moments. With psionics, that becomes possible, but then you might have some explaining to do.helvorn wrote: ↑Sat Sep 21, 2024 10:32 pm"Of course I unloaded it. Garvin chuckles "If you want it back in play as a "frightener" that's fine with me as is the presence of the blood but the Princess said she wants "straight" interviews - an' us to record 'em too! I'm familiar with the idea but you're not really goin' to make folk sit up an take notice of an interrogation where there's no power tools in play are you? She then also rather inferred we should use psionics to obtain "evidence" - which would be both inadmissable and utterly prejudicial to any case under Imperial Law but which would also form the only grounds for the further detention of our suspects... as per the criminal law. 'Owever, she's the boss an' I think we might now be operatin' in a whole new arena. Somewhere way beyond "technical legality"... where the entire goal of the enquiry an' indeed the burden of proof is to determine whether or not someone is "out of order". Funnily enough I'm actually feelin' quite "at 'ome" with it all".

She wants the names of people to question more closely and locations of incriminating evidence to seize by the people with warrants. This is a narrowing process rather than the endgame. At least she hopes so, once tight right questions start getting asked.Tiglath wrote: ↑Sat Sep 21, 2024 11:27 pmGarvin chuckles "If you want it back in play as a "frightener" that's fine with me as is the presence of the blood but the Princess said she wants "straight" interviews - an' us to record 'em too! Moving this to the end to keep things going.
"I am--was--the duchess's senior aide. I did not know the admiral."
Roscoe motions to hurry. "PSI is burning. Hit the incriminating questions quickly or I will run dry before we can follow up. Either that or give me a heads up on when to make the attempt."
Feel free to ask multiple questions or give a theme and I can do more than answer a question at a time.
The princess said earlier not to mention the noble titles. They are not official until the ennoblement ceremony. Unless you say otherwise, I will assume you didn't use it.joertexas wrote: ↑Sat Sep 21, 2024 7:30 pm"I am Marquess Jaelah Shugilamar, and I am the lead investigator into the activities of the late Duchess Muktheswara and Admiral Noster. "This is Baroness Else von Strous," he said, standing behind her. "I've informed her that we believe that there are matters revolving around her former mistress that need to be addressed before word of her untimely death becomes public. We are short on time, so some of the niceties will not be observed to speed things along. She might not agree, but there we are."
He nods his head that he is ready.
"Go," he says over the link.
His 5 effect means he has a very clear read on her. Forgot his skill, so it’s over 6 for effect. He’ll catch it all. This drops his temporary PSI to 23 because of previous use.

William smiled a bit. "It just emphasizes what happened here and hopefully further disorients our subjects."Tiglath wrote: ↑Sat Sep 21, 2024 11:27 pmGarvin chuckles "If you want it back in play as a "frightener" that's fine with me as is the presence of the blood but the Princess said she wants "straight" interviews - an' us to record 'em too! I was stepping aside to let Jaelah continue the investigation.
Psionic locks are not a bad idea and should not be immediately obvious or incriminating without very careful expert examination.

Would they get much use? Seems like they are a solution seeking a problem, unless you leave your guns lying out where the bad guys can get them.

That whole deal played out as per Garvin's plan to "boil over" the Admiral so no complaints from him!helvorn wrote: ↑Sun Sep 22, 2024 12:14 amExactly!terrymixon wrote: ↑Sun Sep 22, 2024 12:08 amWould they get much use? Sorry, I didn't remember that. Consider it stricken.

"The duchess would never do that," the woman sniffed. "It was all the admiral and his deceitful ways. It is disgraceful that you allowed him to kill such a wonderful person who only served the Imperium. There will be questions about that, and the guilty will be held to answer for their crimes."joertexas wrote: ↑Sun Sep 22, 2024 1:12 amterrymixon wrote: ↑Sat Sep 21, 2024 11:56 pm The princess said earlier not to mention the noble titles. "She knew everything," Roscoe said over the link. "The plan was the duchess's, and she subverted the admiral via blackmail and his greed. It was kept close, though. Others know, but only the closest to the principles. I don't have names, though, or where any evidence to back that up goes. I'm renewing the thought reading. Be focused, love."
Roscoe once again has full readings on her and a full minute this time. Temp PSI: 23.
EDIT
Actually, I think I'm going to adjust this. Roscoe will use Probe to delve more forcefully. As a non-psionic, the woman will remain unaware, but he can get deep thoughts and information. The questioning will help focus the subject. He has an effect of 4, so pretty good. 4 PSI spent and good for 6 minutes. Temp PSI: 19.
Probe
The application of great psionic strength will enable a telepath to delve deep into the mind of a subject and to then read their innermost thoughts. Questioning can be used in the procedure to force the subject to divulge specific information. The telepath can easily determine deliberate untruths told (thought) by the subject. Probe cannot be used against a shielded mind. Again, the Effect of the check determines the clarity of the telepath’s perceptions.

"She knew, the duchess's son knew, her personal attorney knew. Oh, and a private courier she uses. I have his name as well. He's not in her direct service, so we might have missed him. No one else on her end. It was a tight plot. There was something in her head about the duchess keeping communications from the admiral to use against him when this was all over. She wanted it all. I don't know where it is or what form yet. Could you turn her in that direction?"
