Y2156.11.16: evening St. Landry [village B2] (DJ & Bart)

Y2156.11.16: evening St. Landry [village B2] (DJ & Bart)
With night came the fiesta. Food, music, dance … life! DJ was educated that local business was conducted at night, too. Not the hard labor of the morning, the evening was a time to settle up debts. Workers were paid and trades were made.

The bane of trucking is the ‘dead load’ … the return trip with an empty truck that burns fuel and time while earning NOTHING. Aware of that, and feeling like they owed Bart and DJ for dealing with the Patrol Inspection, the people of St Landry offer DJ a ‘special gift’. The fruit you just harvested sells for Cr 1000 per ton locally and even more in the cities, but DJ can have 10 dTons to load up his truck for the return trip for only Cr 7000 (Cr 700 per dTon) if he is interested. Just a ‘Thank you’ from the workers of St. Landry.

Predawn saw DJ loaded and on the road. Midnight saw DJ unloaded in the COLONY with the truck returned and heading to his own bed. He had fruit to sell in the morning using his new ADMIN-0 skill. … well, maybe after brunch.

Y2156.11.18: morning The COLONY (DJ)

DJ slept in a bit and enjoyed a long, hot, relaxing shower before heading to the Clubhouse for a late breakfast at around 1000. A quick check of the markets with your new HandComp indicated that the price of the fruit was averaging around Cr 1200 per ton on the local market, so DJ just needed to locate a buyer and close a deal to get a firm price and realize a profit.
Fruit [35] = Cr 1000 / ton x 10 tons
Buy = [4] = 70% = Cr 700 / ton
Sell (ave) = [7+2] = Cr 1200 / ton

Y2156.11.18: morning - The COLONY - Warehouse 25 - (DJ, Hol & Tut)

Y2156.11.18: morning - The COLONY - Warehouse 25 - (DJ, Hol & Tut)
After breakfast, DJ headed to Warehouse 25 to check on his Fresh Fruit. Brom greeted you with his usual cheerfulness … with the number of vehicles your group had rented or inquired about, you were becoming regulars and on a first name basis … besides, any friend of Bart was OK in his book. Brom asked if DJ would be needing the ‘10 ton’ again to deliver his fruit? Apparently between Herbie’s early exploits and your deal with Joe’s old machine parts, you were starting to get a reputation among the Truckers for making your own deliveries.

While DJ was there, he observed three things of interest. The first two things were the newcomers waiting to talk with Brom. Both men still had that ‘fresh off the Starship’ smell to them. The younger man was too clean cut … probably fresh out of COACC or Navy … and the older man reminded you of Joe with that ‘I have been in space forever’ feel to him, but more Merchant than Navy like the first man. Still the ‘odd pair’ were clearly traveling together and likely waiting to transfer the cargo on their truck into the Warehouse.

The cargo in the truck was the THIRD thing that caught DJ’s attention. A couple tonnes of Machine Parts was not that unusual and generally commanded above-average sale prices on Beau where they were in perennial short supply. However, DJ knew enough ELECTRONICS to identify parts from a Starship Maneuver Drive when he saw them and he knew that THOSE parts this far from the Montsoleil Downport … was not ‘normal’. If D.J. could get a good look at those parts and get them for a good price, there might be a LARGE profit to be made. Money that could help the CORPORATION get a step closer to that Starship.

DJ smiles at Brom's question: "I'll let you know when I find a buyer, or buyers. I'll need something to move them."

As he leaves he makes sure he passes by the newcomers. As he does so he nods to them "Morning gentleman. Interesting bunch of parts ya got there. If you're looking to sell I might be able to do you a deal. Names DJ Dawson. Think about it. I'm staying at Marks B&B up by the grav landing area."
