Revisiting The Caves: Pt.2

The only treasure found so far was in a chest that was left 2 rooms behind, and in the last room you suddenly lost access to.[/ooc][/i]

Dredd just sighs and shakes his head at the locked door. He turns around and heads back the way they came, all the way to the entrance to Cave B.
"See you back in Longspear," he says to Magdal and Pim as he passes them.

Pim "You're going back there? I left because it was too boring for me.... why would you want to go back?"

Gyb stays near the back, waiting to see what happens when the door is opened.

Dredd offers a sad smile. "Sometimes 'boring' is good. Better than being a zombie or herding cats. See ya, Pim."

Reunited
Early Afternoon, Clear

Meinhardt suggests that the webs Magdal felt was probably the dandy Catbirds ridiculous hat feather grazing her face as he brushed by unseen in the passage. Finding no web material in this otherwise clean hallway likely proves this theory, as does the suddenly locked door behind them. The wise mage hustles back towards the cave exit, with a perturbed Dredd on his heels, who is apparently ready to give up the adventuring life altogether. They make it outside but find no fleeing bandits out there.

Keya is able to bring Crabgrass back around with some minor healing. Though still badly injured himself, Crabgrass is more concerned about the condition of the fallen school teacher he urged to come along on this folly filled adventure, and now the man lays dead on the floor in front of him. Who will teach the little children of the Keep now?

While Pim and Bugs try to unlock the door that leads back to the treasure room and the shackled woman, the others file in behind them, ready to pounce into the room if necessary. This creates quite a line of adventurers all standing in a row. Unfortunately, neither thief is able to spring the simple lock on the door, so Bugs yells for one of the bigs to smash it down so he doesn't lose the treasure he didn't want to leave behind in the first place.

Appearing a bit apprehensive, he addresses Dredd after no visible bandit is seen fleeing the other cave entrance ...

"Sorry about that bit of playacting. I had no intention of actually joining with that idiot, Catbird, but I had to ensure at least one of us had the opportunity to attempt a rescue."

Will give Dubricus any last rites that have not formally been said, responsible for the teacher's invitation. If no one has yet done so, (and I didn't find a specific note to confirm), he will also take any spell book and components that the teacher-mage may have kept in his pouches and pockets.

After dealing with the mage, he will check his wounds, invoking a blessing to take him further away from a third unconscious state, using his prayer gifts to minister Cure Light Wounds upon himself (+4hp) and Pimlan, (+1hp), the next most needy.

Crobeus - Human Paladin

Crobeus allows Rida to try the door, staying near to defend the fighter from any unseen enemy that may be lurking behind it.

"Go! Go! Go!" Bugs urges the group to enter if the door is breached. He'll be one of the first in, ducking and weaving under the arms and blades of his allies.

Gyb continues to follow the others down the hall. He swishes at the air with his javelin, trying to keep an invisible lurker away from him.

Dredd shrugs and sighs deeply. "Well...thanks for the rescue, I reckon. Be well, Meinhardt. If you're ever in Longspear, look me up."
Dredd begins walking, hoping to avoid the troll as he heads back toward his home town of Longspear.

Quietly he says,“It may be easier to go thru on the other side, accessing the room via the secret portal. Some of us should stay and some come with me.” He requests the help of those behind him (Rida, Magdal and Gyb) to go back and come around the other side, entering thru cave C, his original route.

Magdal

"So it might have been the catbird's hat?," she asks to no one in particular. "That's one bird I'd like to pluck," thinking of the chickens she had to prepare for the guests at her ma's inn. When Dredd mentions returning to Longspear, Magdal grimaces, "Hate to loose you big guy. I thought we Longspear folk made a good group even if we met with little success, at least I knew who I could depend on." She moves up and gives him a bear hug, "If you insist on leaving, would you at least tell my ma I'm doin' okay? And tell I'll be back sometime," hoping that last turned out to be true.

Somewhat sad at the development, she nods to Loyn, "Yes sir," looking to Rida and Gyb to see if they are coming before she starts back in the direction indicated to cave C.

This really works best if you only make actions for your own PC. Suggesting that others will follow your course of action can cause a good deal of confusion, and especially so after those players have already posted their own actions.

The Price You Pay
Early Afternoon, Clear

Once back on his feet again, Crabgrass is surprised to find that none of his people or the bandits have checked over the dead body of Dubricus. He pulls both spellbook and spell components from the dead mage, but not before saying last rights over him, of course. He then heals himself and Pimlan as the halfling passes by the main room behind a few of the others who are apparently heading outside.

Dredd has had enough of the adventuring lifestyle, saying his goodbyes as he intends to leave the group to head back to his homeland all alone. Magdal knows the dangers of these lands, wondering if she will ever see her friend again.

Loyn rustles up Pimlan and Magda to swing outside to come back around from the other cave entrance, following behind Cobb and Meinhardt, who were already on their way to that entrance. When they all arrive at the next cave mouth, it remains quiet and incredibly stinky. There is no sign of anyone running out towards them as they watch.

Rida kicks at the heavy wooden door to little avail. Then he gets a better idea and throws his shoulder into it using his size and strength to snap the closure after a couple of hard barges. The door swings open roughly with a bang to reveal a lavishly appointed room complete with fancy furnishings and rich tapestries adorning the walls. Though the group is ready for a fight, there is nobody in the room to engage with. The opposite door that the splinter party used to enter earlier from the secret room beyond it is tightly closed again.

When the alcove with the chained woman is checked, you find the poor girl slumped over as if she were sleeping. Along with the wound you found earlier on her ear, her throat is now slit from one side to the other, with bright red blood gurgling out of the wound onto her chest as she slowly bleeds out.
