Discussion (out of character thread)
Re: Discussion (out of character thread)
Does anyone object to running Winter events concurrent with getting the Spring adventure started?
Re: Discussion (out of character thread)
Fine by me. Will Drotik be back?
Re: Discussion (out of character thread)
CarrieVS you are free to jump in. Earnan & Eithlin arrive at Borderton at the same time as Drotik. Feel free to interact with them. You will also learn quickly that there are other elves around if you wish to encounter them.
Re: Discussion (out of character thread)
I will post when I get a chance tomorrow. Gotta sleep now!
Re: Discussion (out of character thread)
CarrieVS, if Earnan is traveling west with the caravan, it takes about three weeks. If he wanted to gather information, he would realize that while most everyone else is going to Borderton, the Caravan Guard Captain Drotik is returning to Borderton. Thus possibly a source of information.
While Drotik is aware of you, he doesn't seem particularly for or against elves. Earnan might also realize that many of the caravan guards are related to Drotik by marriage, and others are more related than plain soldiers but not actually related. If that makes sense. There's some other connection.
If Earnan is familiar with soldiers and military units he would see the guards are well trained.

Re: Discussion (out of character thread)
Actually, Earnan is fully capable of going with the caravan and never being noticed. He's just ridiculously stealthy... and can cast invisibility. I have no idea what his plans are, but hiding is his thing.Leitz wrote: ↑Wed Sep 04, 2024 12:42 am While Drotik is aware of you, he doesn't seem particularly for or against elves. Re: Discussion (out of character thread)
No worries, it was more a way to bring him into the game, since he probably doesn't know about Eastfort yet.scarik wrote: ↑Wed Sep 04, 2024 12:55 amActually, Earnan is fully capable of going with the caravan and never being noticed. Re: Discussion (out of character thread)
Quick geography mention.
Ravenfolk live everywhere natural Ravens are found. This is pretty much the entire northern hemisphere in earth and the game world is roughly the same. This means there are Cathayan (ie greater China) Ravenfolk.
In Buyeo they are feared more so than in the west and not generally so friendly as the ones here.
They don't live in the south so these are thr first ones Earnan has met.
There are also Elves in Cathay and they are quite similar to western Elves:immortal, magical, and often aloof or inscrutable.

Re: Discussion (out of character thread)
And even he has encountered them before - since you told me they were pretty widespread and he has been on this continent a while. But they still seem exotic (and Eithlin being a bird has a particular interest in people with beaks and feathers.)
Re: Discussion (out of character thread)
Right. My bad. These are the first ones he's had a conversation with and spent appreciable time with.
Re: Discussion (out of character thread)
If a Blink Dog got frisky with a regular dog, would the result be a Wink Dog?
Re: Discussion (out of character thread)
Re-reading the rules and re-found this wonderful snippet:
Heroic characters add 1 to all their own rolls and to the Morale of all henchmen and followers. Enemies suffer -1 to all rolls against a Heroic character including Morale checks when facing them in combat.
I had forgotten about the +1/-1 to all rolls.

Re: Discussion (out of character thread)
Luckily I have been factoring it in for you.Leitz wrote: ↑Sun Sep 15, 2024 12:27 am Re-reading the rules and re-found this wonderful snippet:

Re: Discussion (out of character thread)
Am I to understand that my choice was incorrect? I'm unfamiliar with this system and I'm sure I am going to make some sub-optimal decisions, but I'm doing my best. Am I being advised to change my mind?
Re: Discussion (out of character thread)
I've been playing for a year and I still have to ask the simplest questions sometimes. As a co-player, so far you're doing great. I'm not sure what choice you are referring to, though.
Re: Discussion (out of character thread)
I said I wasn't taking a potion and then received a whole load of unasked info in the IC thread about the technicalities of potions vs scrolls and I'm trying to work out if I'm being instructed to offer the scroll to Morwen and take a potion instead because it does more if she uses it, or just advised to make better choices next time or (probably) just over-thinking it all.
Re: Discussion (out of character thread)
You are overthinking it.
I added the other information because no one knows it. They've never had the option before. I just tend to add a lot of things at once...

Re: Discussion (out of character thread)
Oh, I see. I assumed everyone else knew... Sorry.
Re: Discussion (out of character thread)
You said you prefer to play an elf rogue when you learn a new system, I usually do fighters. Actually, I usually do fighters of some ilk anyway, and then see what social options the DM is interested in pursuing. All of the spell stuff is new to me, too. Of course, for me it means less, except for JJh's NPCs.
