Atticus will help the others examine the books and texts while they are decontaminating.

I believe the player who could read Sani is no longer posting. If another PC would like to spend a Schrodinger's skill slot to read Sani that would be fine.

I would but I don't have any slots.

There are four rooms on this level: two of them have the large, terrarium-like tanks, neither of which have been investigated closely, and the fourth room is a shambles of debris and detritus, but it, too, has not been thoroughly investigated. As the adventurers return to the hall, they hear a clatter from below, echoing up the staircase, as if something had been knocked over in the distance. After several minutes of quiet, when the adventurers freeze in place, no more sounds are heard, nor do any slavering monsters emerge from below.

Moving on to the debris-strewn room, the adventurers commence a thorough -- and quiet -- search. They find the following:

*Two more of the same suits, made of the shimmering silver material.
*A large tome bound in plates of beaten brass. In flowing script across the spine in the Sani script are the words: "A Study of Mycothurgical Principals".
*A scroll-case of brass, containing two vellum scrolls.
*A small journal, bound in black leather.
*A box about one foot in all dimensions -- actually, it is almost more of a bag, made of stiffened leather -- with a strap. A faint, muffled tinkling can be heard from inside when moved.
Atticus cracks open the tomes while the rest of the adventurers rest. He finds that they contain:

*The book entitled "A Study of Mycothurgical Principals" is long, technical, and frankly pretty boring. It seems to be about, as may be surmised and for lack of a better term, mushroom magic. It will take awhile to digest the contents, but at a quick glance he can tell that there are a dozen or so pages that he can simply not comprehend; they likely contain spells of some sort."

*The two vellum scrolls are similar; written in Sani, the letters somehow float in front of his eyes and make his head hurt when he tries to comprehend them.

*The small journal is the most interesting and the easiest to digest. It is a journal, detailing an experiment in the creation of fungal life. It quickly becomes apparent that there are three subjects -- called Neela, Laal, and Hara. According to the journal, the mages conducting this experiment constructed the three tanks and filled them with buildings, roads, infrastructure, and other, more esoteric objects, then deposited what are referred to by the book as "mosslings" into the tank, somehow granted them life by a process referred to as The Vivimantic Principle, and then observed the results over a series of years. The researchers would communicate with the subjects as gods; the building upon the "mountain" acting as a temple, but they would also occasionally imbibe a substance that both reduced them in size and granted them the appearance of a mossling to walk among and study the subjects close up. There is more, but it would require more time to study.

Does this mean Dirk has his whirlwind ability back also?
All I was saying is that since we re-entered the dungeon, neither of my guys have used a spell so we don't need to rest.
The battle when Dirk did his whirlwind, was that yesterday? I recall spells or abilities being used then. So I assumed if others had their’s back, Dirk would too?

It was the same day. Sully meant, I believe, that they hadn't used any of their abilities for the day, not that they had *regained* use of them.

Atticus

Atticus hands the scrolls to Themon "I think these might be spells. Should I spend more time on this journal, we might learn where the creature came from, or are we ready to get going?"

Each scroll contains an arcane spell: the first creates a circular barrier 10' in diameter that wards all those within it against the effects of fungal spores, the second allows one to control and dominate a creature of fungal nature.

Flipping to the last pages of the journal, Atticus reads the entries. The writing is hurried and sloppy, a far cry from the neat bu cramped entries at the beginning of the book.

"The Royal Family in Jacaar has been executed, they are saying, and anarchy has gripped the land. Most of the guards here were withdrawn months ago to aid in quelling the unrest, and we are largely alone here; the halls echo strangely in the quiet."

"We have all vowed to continue the experiments, regardless of what happens in the outside world. What we are doing is too important to leave unattended. The politicians and nobles can squabble over what remains as long as we are allowed to continue our work."

"There's been a terrible accident! Nayddi was conducting an experiment in the basement when a surge of Chaos swept through the complex, and she has been transformed into some form of fungal beast! I and the others have retreated here, to this chamber. We will try and make a run for the decontamination room while it wreaks havoc elsewhere, but already Hama and Hirmar have been slain. I foresee woe ahead; Jacaar is aflame and has fallen, and it seems that a new Nadir is upon us."

That is the last entry in the journal.

Does it say how long the effects of both spells last?

I'm thinking we might be able to control the fungal beast and use it against either the elves or the bandits.

It does not mention the length of time it controls a target.

Themon says, This whole area was a place where sorcerers experimented on fungi. I fear there is going to be no treasure here. We should look elsewhere for our fortune.

It looks like there are still two doors near room 28 we haven't opened (assuming the one next to the secret door is a fake/trap.)
