Corvin

Corvin can't help but grin when he sees Hrek crumple. He starts to look around for something to secure him with, but pauses to look at Mordred.

"Why don't Geraint and me get him tied up while you go and help the others. With the dogs making that racket we'll soon have the two from upstairs to contend with as well as the three from next door. We'll join you as soon as we're done."

Kasper does a quick evaluation of the door into the barracks to see if there is a way to brace the door shut.

The door opens into the barracks (i.e. he would need to push it to open it), so no. At best, he can continue to try to hold the door closed.

"The dogs barking will wake up their leaders" - Mordred grunted - "They will soon be here" - he added.

Ok so, I know we do not have a lot of time to discuss strategy, but according to Geraint there are probably 3-4 in the barracks, plus Vane and Velda should be coming down any second with their mutts. So I say one ties up Hrek, but the other need to give a hand with the rest. And to be honest, we should storm the barracks, and take them down as quickly as possible, otherwise we will be outnumbered really fast.

How about Mordred and Corvin go and help the others. I was leaning towards Geraint going with you, but if we want to work quickly to neutralise the barracks I think Corvin's potential for KO could be very useful to speed things up.

Corvin looks at Mordred

"You're right, we need to disable those in the barracks quickly."

He then turns his attention to Geraint "Tie him up good and gag him. If there's time tie him to the bed as well...and make sure there's nothing sharp nearby. Join us when you can, but watch out for those from upstairs."

Assuming there are no disagreements to any of the above...

Corvin will then follow Mordred out to join the others. In a whisper he will suggest that on the silent count of three they stop holding the door shut and suddenly rush in, hopefully knocking some to the floor.

I've assumed the door to Hrek's room is in no state to close behind us, if it is possible then Corvin will do so, hoping it will keep the dogs away from Geraint as he works.

Geraint nods, grabs some rope off the wall, and gets to work. He pauses a moment to toss Hrek's sword to Mordred. "Here. Hrek's bragged about that thing often enough. Claims it's dwarven make from just before the dwarves were driven from the Rust Mountains."

The bastard sword is perfectly balanced in Mordred's hand, and he can almost hear it singing as it slices through the air.

It is not. However, the door into the barracks is right next to the stairs so if/when the dogs come down, you guys are going to be the nearest targets. Also, the dogs are used to him, and likely won't view him as an intruder.

Morded and Corvin hurry to join the others. There's a rattle at the door, as one of the men try to pull it open, followed by a shouted curse when Kasper holds it closed. The three count down, and then Kasper kicks the door open. Morded and Corvin lead the way into the room, followed by Kasper. Sebastian takes up guard at the doorway, next to the stairs, watching for the dogs.

The room is small, and crowded with four beds (really more like four hard, wooden pallets), two along the north, and two along the south. There is only room for one man to stand and swing a sword between the beds. When the doors burst open, and the three thugs see Mordred leading a charge, two of them leap onto the beds.

The three will move to attack Mordred as he enters the room. The men on the bed have elevation, but their footing is a little bit unsteady, so they'll get neither bonus nor penalty to their attacks. Kasper will jump onto one of the beds, and move to attack one of the men on the beds I'm assuming, since ybn hasn't said any different, that he is not yet able to participate consistently. If I'm wrong on that, let me know!. Sebastian remains at the door, watching the stairs.

Corvin

Corvin races into the room behind Mordred. Seeing Kasper take on one of the men on a bed, he leaps on a bed to take on the other.

He grins a toothy grin at the man before attempting to knock him unconscious.

Mordred

Mordred catches the sword effortlessly, feeling its perfect balance. He gives it a test swing, a satisfied smirk playing on his lips as he feels the weapon's precision. "Thank you Geraint. This is a fine blade," he says, with a nod of appreciation.

Is Hrek's blade lighter, or sharper? Anything Mordred can garner from it?

Initiative:
3 Thugs: 16
Kasper: 10
Corvin: 1d20+2 = 4
Mordred: 3

The three thugs thrust at Mordred with their short swords 1d20+3+1-1(protection from evil) = 11, 1d20+3+1-1 = 22, 1d20+3+1-1 = 17. Mordred's blade hums in his hands as he parries the stroke of the man on the ground. An impact against his arm signals a blade turned aside by his mail, but one sword lances in at his face 1d6=4 damage. Mordred twists his face at the last second, saving his life, but giving him a deep slice across his forehead and cheek, blood running into and blinding one eye.

But before the thug can follow up on Mordred's distraction, Kasper is on him, reinforced gauntleted fists flying. 1d20+1+9 = 14, 26, damage = 1d3 = 3. The bandit manages to dodge one of Kasper's fist, but the other catches him under the chin with a loud crack. The bandit staggers backwards, shaking his head woozily.

The other bandit pulls his blade back right as Corvin is on him, fist flying 1d20+2+9 = 28, damage = 1+1 = 2 save vs. death = 1d20+8 = 10 < 20. There's a sharp crack as Corvin's fist collides with his nose. The man falls backwards, and rolls off the foot of the bed, out cold.

Though it makes no sound, Mordred can feel his new blade sing in his hands as he knocks aside the blade of the bandit in front of him, and then swings at his head. Never has Morded felt a blade move like this, responding to his smallest movements like it were an extension of his arm. 11+9+1(sword) = 21, damage = 5+1(sword) = 6, thug has 6 HP. The sword cleaves through the man's skull like a hot knife through warm butter, and he drops. For a split second, Mordred can see a flicker of blue fire tracing a few runes on the base of the blade, just above the crossguard. This is a bastard sword+1.

Actions! One thug is out *cold*, another thug is dead, and the third is severely wounded. One the other hand, the dogs continue to bark, and everyone can hear a bit of cursing, like someone's yelling at the dogs upstairs. So, we'll give the remaining thug a morale check at -4: 1d20+13-4 = 27 > 20.

"Hrek! Vane, help!" cries the man. "Intruders!"

The bandit will attack Kasper, and Kasper will attack right back.

Corvin

Corvin joins Kasper in attacking the wounded man. Again, he resists the instinct to draw blood and attempts to knock him out.

Mordred

Despite the injury, Mordred marvels at the sword's responsiveness - using a magical weapon feels vastly different than hearing about them in training. The blade moves almost intuitively, guiding his strikes with precision and power. This realization brings a smile to the Magic User's face, a mix of awe and exhilaration at wielding such an exceptional weapon.

Actions
He waits to see if his companions manage to lay down their last opponent - if they do, he moves outside in case the dogs are coming. If not, he attacks.

This is a little bit too complex of an action statement for a (possibly chaotic) 10 seconds of combat. You can commit to attacking (and possibly cancel it) to increase the chances of killing the thug, but possibly wasting your action, or you can run outside the room to join Sebastian next to the stairs, but increase the chances of the thug surviving the next round.

What if I simply go last in the round, and decide then?

Not really a thing you can do. The only decision you can make mid-round is whether to abandon the action you declared at the start. Moving in and attacking the thug is a different action from leaving to backup Sebastian. So you'll need to pick one now.

Initiative:
Corvin/Thug: 15
Mordred: 7
Kasper: 1

The thug thrusts at Kasper, even as Corvin leaps to the northern bed, and throws his fist at the Thug's temple Thug: 1d20+1+5 =24, damage = 1d6 = 2, Corvin: 1d20+1+1+9 = 22, damage = 2, Thug only has 2 HP. The Thug's shortsword slams into Kasper's chest, pierces through the mail, and digs into his skin. But before the blade can penetrate too deeply, Corvin's fist strikes his temple. There's a sharp crack, and the Thug collapses, dead, while Kasper presses on the blood on his chest. He gives Corvin and Mordred a reassuring nod, and gestures to the door, signaling that he's fine.

Meanwhile, the baying grows almost deafening, and two mangy, poorly cared for mastiffs charge down the stairs. A man follows along behind, unarmored but carrying a sword in one hand.

"Hrek! Get your ass out here!" barks the man.

"We're coming!" calls Geraint from Hrek's room. "Just dealing with some intruders!"

Sebastian will attempt to Control the dogs. The dogs will attack Sebastian. Vane is going to hold back. Note that the dogs are currently blocking the way up the stairs.

The third thug is down. The thug who Corvin knocked out remains out cold. Actions!

Corvin

Hearing the commotion in the corridor, Corvin rushes out to join Sebastian. Taking in the scene he notes the state of the dogs, which only makes him angrier, and Sebastian attempting some kind of druidic effect over them.

He waits to see if Sebastian is successful, and if not he will try to knock the closest of the poor mutts unconscious.

Mordred

Wanting to give his companion a chance to reach a non-violent conclusion with the dogs, Mordred waits to time his attack.

Actions
Attack the one following the dogs, when/if the dogs fall asleep.
