Yosef continues to keep a watchful eye out while the party goes about getting into position for setting up camp. Once settled, Yosef will have a meal and once again look over the journals that he and the party discovered in Quasqueton, just to be sure he didn't miss any clues the first two dozen times he read them previous. :)

He then looks to Bruard, going over his current spell roster and wondering if he should change any of them up. "Friend Bruard, although it is possible my Read Magic spell would benefit us when we search the tower on the morrow, perhaps I should substitute it for a Detect Magic instead? If you still have any curative spells remaining, perhaps you could use them to heal those still injured before praying to Shinare again? What say you in this?" he queries matter-of-factly and in a manner so very elf-like.

Alethan wrote:... So something like this:

First Shift - Till and Ancor
Second Shift - Jeloon and Eyman
Third Shift - Bruard and Rosin
Forth Shift - Yosef and Van

The only update we'd need to make to it is that we now have Derek with us, as well. For the time being, we can certainly have Ancor sleep through the night in order to help speed his recovery, since he was wounded fighting the sticky wickets. But we could also rotate who gets to sleep through the night if need be.
I like this as well and also think it a good idea that we let Ancor sleep through the nights, that he might heal up faster.

I do remember that when we were still working the tomb over, Derek took the last shift with Yosef but regardless, he could take the first to replace Ancor's watch shift. Does Derek have a preference? Yosef is good with this either way! :)

Right, then I think we're all in agreement! Or, at least, have enough for general consensus.

Day 14 – Second watch shift

Among the small hills you are able to find an area blocked from the tower, and not too far away.

Not going to PM this. Wanted to keep Derek from going to second dinner or breakfast or something :D

Till and Derek hit the sack after Jeloon and Eyman relieve them. Eyman is nervous, but Jeloon is quite comfortable with keeping watch in the moonlight. But even she is caught off guard by the figures that attack stealthily though they start glibbering and meeping quietly as they attack.

As far as you can tell in the half-light there are four emaciated humanish creatures, loping to attack and have sharp teeth and fingernails. Though you are on lookout they obviously know the area well, as they crept up on you and attacked somehow without you noticing.

migellito please roll a d6 for surprise and then a d6 for intiative.
Whether or not there is surprise we'll use your second roll as the initiative. Since it's so soon after their shift, Till and Derek will be able to hear the scuffle no matter what Eyman and Jeloon do and will be able to wake up after surprise and attack two segments after Jeloon's initiative roll. Not sure if that makes sense, but no worries, I'll keep track. Either way, if there is no surprise Till and Derek should be able to get off attacks this round. Hmm, I'll have to figure out how I'll play Derek's double attacks though. Okay.

I haven't updated hit points, will resolve that after the night is over.

Agreed, wise elf. I can cure Derek and Jeloon. I have a detect magic, but if you'd like us to have a second one, it can't hurt.

OOC: I'm going back in time before the 'loping creatures' attack... I hope this is okay. I was away from my computer from about 3:00pm Tuesday until just now, which is unusual for me.

Day 14 – Second watch shift; bitter end of the day
Round SURPRISE – Night time attack

Surprised by the creatures Jeloon and Eyman scramble to prepare for the onslaught. The shuffling and meeping stir Till and Derek who were just settling into dreams of the Happy Hunting Grounds...

The creatures attack with their long fingernails and teeth, and focus on the awake party members ignoring, for now, those that are asleep.

The first creature attacks Jeloon: [1d20] = 11 [1d20] = 9 [1d20] = 5 and doesn't even get past her armor, but the second creature is attacking as well: [1d20] = 20 [1d20] = 18 [1d20] = 14 and fairs much better, both claws and the bite getting past her defences. Jeloon takes 6 hps of damage.
migellito please roll to save vs. death/paralysis/poison.

The third creature focuses on Eyman: [1d20] = 2 [1d20] = 10 [1d20] = 6 - a claw getting past Eyman's defenses for but 1hp damage. He starts to stiffen up, trying to slough it off [1d20] = 8 he cannot and stiffens up unmoving magic battle axe at the ready. A flash of fear flickers in his eyes as the fourth creature jumps on him, bringing him down shredding half of his face and shoulder with claws and teeth, chewing away. He still appears to be breathing... for now.

Round 1 – Night time attack
Creatures initiative: [1d6] = 5
In light of the initiative rolls, here how round one plays out: Jeloon attacks (if she makes her save), creatures attack, Till, Derek and Jeloon attacks last (if she makes her save). Unfortunately Derek misses out on this double attack round.

HPs: Jeloon - 23/29; Till - 35/36; Yosef - 10/10; Bruard - 19/19; Derek - 40/40
WIH: Till: short sword (15' radius light); Jeloon: Longsword (20' radius light), shield; Derek: Longsword (20' radius light), shield; Yosef: bow and arrow [or long sword]; Bruard: Mace, shield; Van: +1 ogre spear, shield; Eyman: +1 Battle Axe, shield

(for resolution after Jeloon and the creatures attack...)

Till swings wildly at one of the ghoulish beasts... ( ;) )
To Hit, Glowing Short Sword [1d20] = 12 (not including magical bonuses)

If that hits...
Damage, Glowing Short Sword (Small/Medium) [1d6] = 3 (not including any magical bonuses)

Swing and a hit!
[1d20+2] = 20+2 = 22

and damage

[1d8+4] = 1+4 = 5

(Unless the natural 20 does something)

"TO ARMS!" Till shouts as loudly as he can. "Ancor, Rosin - we need torches! Fire! FIRE!"

OOC: Centuries from now, as the call of, "Fire! Fire!" rings out through town squares during times of trouble, none will attribute it to the cry of a halfling thief from ages past, trying to save his friends...

Save: [1d20] = 17

Made it!

Then, after getting her bearings, she attacks the gibbering beast in front of her.

Magic longsword thaco16 - [1d20+1] = 11+1 = 12 = AC4

Magic longsword damage [1d8+3] = 8+3 = 11damage

2nd attack (if her creature is down for some reason, she goes to Eyman's)
Magic longsword thaco16 - [1d20+1] = 1+1 = 2 = AC
holy crap a fumble..

Day 14 – Second watch shift; bitter end of the day
Round 1 – Night time attack

.

Shrugging off the stiffening of his muscles Jeloon explodes with a mighty swing, cutting one of the two in front of her clear in half, it's mouth still glibbering as it's body separates into two, falling to the ground.

Unfortunately for him, the creature that took Eyman down continues to feast on his flesh, rending and biting. But the creature is taking it's time, so apparently he is still breathing, though it is getting shallower and shallower. Unfortunately for Jeloon, the second creature on Eyman turns to join it's companion attacking Jeloon. The loss of their fellow not giving them any pause.

Creature 1 (on Jeloon): [1d20] = 9 [1d20] = 7 [1d20] = 3
Creature 2 (on Jeloon): [1d20] = 13 [1d20] = 11 [1d20] = 7

Neither creature is able to get past Jeloon's defenses :o . Though the second one comes close, it's ferocity heightened at losing a meal to Creature #3.

Creature 3 makes quite disgusting sounds as it is chewing on Eyman's face.

To finish up Round 1, Till, screaming out to the others, is able to connect with glibbering creature number 1, who is attacking Jeloon, barely (the sword is +1) doing some damage though the creature presses on with it's attacks. Derek also connects with creature 2, also doing damage. Jeloon's attack is uneffective in the chaos of the attack.

Though now the feasting creature, as well as the others, have other targets.

All this commotion have, quite rudely, waken up the others. They are quick to assess the situation and will be able to attack this upcoming round (with a 2 segment initiative penalty, but don't worry about that, I will figure it in).

No worries about critical misses, I don't really do them. Which means I don't do natural 20's either. :D Just an FYI, no one except for Jeloon, Eyman ( :( ) and anyone in leathers is armored. I'll take that into account during the battle. No HP adjustment below (only to Eyman) because out of 6 to hit rolls on Jeloon none were successful! Luck and planning and luck is the motto of this crew!

Please roll initiative and state your actions this round, doing the necessary rolls needed to complete those actions.

Encouraged by Jeloon's ability to avoid paralysis and further attacks by the nightmarish creatures, Till once again swings at the ghoul he'd previously attacked...

To Hit, Short Sword +1 [1d20+1] = 15+1 = 16

Damage, Short Sword +1 (Small/Medium) [1d6+1] = 2+1 = 3

Yosef snaps to from his troubled sleep and takes in the horrific scene. He instinctively grabs up his longsword laying next to his bedroll and jumps to his feet...
Alethan wrote:... "Yosef, get that thing off of Eyman!"

Responding to his companions words, Yosef points his finger at the hideous creature on Eyman and casts his Magic Missile spell at it:
