Tagging Players in a post
I don't know how easy or hard it is but on one other form that uses the same type of code as here you can actually tag a player and it gives them a notification. With the forums as they are now I we do get notifications if we are quoted, which is fine. But rather than always quoting someone if we are specifically posting a reply to someone how hard would it be to add the function to be able to tag them with @username? Or even adding a button to tag a player as I think that is how it is on Proboards.com
Here is a screenshot of what it looks like there (proboards forums)

I agree, this could be helpful.GreyWolfVT wrote: ↑Fri Feb 25, 2022 5:30 pm ...how hard would it be to add the function to be able to tag them with @username?
We'll see what Greg says.

I also agree that this would be a helpful feature. But, it's not native in the code so it would have to be a plug-in. I'll do a search for it but make no guarantees. If anyone else wants to do some research on it as well, that would be helpful.

Re: Tagging Playes in a post
I'll see what I can dig up, Greg.
Talked to the admin of the probaord forum I am in and he said it was already built-in at least for Proboards when he created his forum there and does not appear to be a feature he can disable. Not sure how any of that helps but so far it is all I have discovered.

Re: Tagging Players in a post
This is an old thread, but I would like to be able to tag users in my game as well. A search on the internet says I should be able to do so with the @ and username, but it doesn't work. If there is a different way, I'd love to know about it.
Re: Tagging Players in a post
I can say that Greg has been in contact with a developer to potentially have some enhancements performed.
Not sure if this is one of them, though.

Re: Tagging Players in a post
I am not sure how the tagging stuff works elsewhere but here if I want someone to see something I posted I click on the contact bubble under my name for the post in question and add the persons user name to the send to bar, delete my name and send it. That way they see the post as a PM. I do it for new posts in my game as well and it seems to work just fine.
Re: Tagging Players in a post
So, I will say, I do receive a separate notification when I'm quoted in a response:
I found this:

Which version of phpBB do we use right now? Is upgrading to 3.3 easy / possible?

Re: Tagging Players in a post
That is an excellent question not sure where to find that out, but perhaps one of the admins can find that out.

Re: Tagging Players in a post
I am not an admin for US, but the reason that this information is not publicly on the site is a bad actor could use the version number to potentially attack the site. Better to just ask if that version or beyond is possible given the other constraints.

Re: Tagging Players in a post
I can confirm that we are above version 3.3.SterlingBlake wrote: ↑Wed Jul 03, 2024 7:30 pmWhich version of phpBB do we use right now? Is upgrading to 3.3 easy / possible?

@dmw71, so just a matter of adding the "Simple mentions" extensions and @ will work, right?dmw71 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 04, 2024 4:00 amI can confirm that we are above version 3.3.SterlingBlake wrote: ↑Wed Jul 03, 2024 7:30 pmWhich version of phpBB do we use right now? Is upgrading to 3.3 easy / possible?

is the one with sole privileges when it comes to the die roller or performing updates to the forum software, so this will be something that ultimately falls under his purview.

Any updates on this?

Any updates on this? I recently encountered a need to highlight a few players, and I hated needing to quote their old posts just to get their attention.dmw71 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 04, 2024 12:39 pmPossibly.SterlingBlake wrote: ↑Thu Jul 04, 2024 11:21 am @dmw71, so just a matter of adding the "Simple mentions" extensions and @ will work, right?
