Credit Where Credit Is Due

#1 Post by archolewa »

This is basically where I'll be posting links to any adventures that I adapt to our game, as well as any (non-)fiction that served as inspiration. Mostly, so that everybody knows who deserves credit for the good ideas.

Redemption's Blade: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/364 ... on-s-blade - This is where I got the idea of a game taking place after the BBEG was killed, with a broken world that is now struggling to repair itself. I even stole the name of the dead big bad. I never actually finished the book, it was shaping up to be FAR too bleak and depressing for my liking, but I thought the premise would be a fun one for some old school RPG adventuring.

Collections: The Battle of Helm's Deep: https://acoup.blog/2020/05/01/collectio ... elms-gate/
Collections: The Siege of Gondor: https://acoup.blog/2019/05/10/collectio ... of-gondor/
These are two *fantastic* series of blog posts by a military historian studying the movie and book depictions of the Siege of Helm's Deep, and that of Minas Tirith. It goes into very nice, and approachable detail about the kinds of logistical issues pre-gunpowder armies (typically medieval, but also some Roman stuff) dealt with, and how the armies might be organized, and how the armies relate to the underlying society. I will very likely be using these as reference when fleshing out the world (how much we see will of course depend on what kinds of direction the players take the adventure, and if they ever create domains of their own).

Shrine of Hecate - https://www.dragonsfoot.org/sg/index.shtml (search for "Shrine of Hecate"). This is the adventure I used for Corvin and Mordred's Battleaxe Gang adventure (viewtopic.php?t=13669). Tweaks were fairly minor mostly just to accomodate my setting, XP levels and the slightly differing numbers between DDX and OSRIC. Also *dramatically* reduced the stats on the dogs, because holy crap. Way too beefy for 1st level adventurers (also, I don't understand how wolves have more HD and to-hit than veteran soldiers. Pretty sure that if it's a fight between a wolf and a guy in armor with a sword, the guy in armor's gonna win).

Curse of Harken Hall - https://www.drivethrurpg.com/en/product ... id=1892600. This is the adventure I used as inspiration for Luca and Troy's "Return to Tuskdale Hall" adventure (viewtopic.php?t=13819). Inspiration is carrying a *lot* in that sentence. Pretty much the only thing I use is the map layout, some of the encounters, and some treasure. Everything else is *wildly* different.
