I missed it to as I don't have any coin either.

I also have more equipment than I want to carry (78 pounds of equipment for a 37 pound person seems excessive even if the rules say she can carry 102 pounds). Although I know the encumbrance economy for 5e is very broken for anyone not of average size and everybody seems fine with it it is one of those things that always makes me cringe. Can I just sell some back for 1/2 price or something?

Yes, go to the General Store or the Blacksmith (arms/armor) to sell various things at half price.

Also, if you're going to be based in Lakeside for a while (that was *my* plan, but maybe not yours <g), you might want to "rent rooms" for when you are in town. That would be a place to store equipment you didn't want to carry around, but might want later.

Did you? Well, being broke just gives a PC an incentive to go out and earn some money, find some treasure...right?

True. The roller doesn't like me so I am used to it. I joke about this a bunch but it is actually true, I am running a character with a 3 Chr rolled with 4d6 drop the lowest and another with a 4 Int rolled the same way so 7 starting gp shouldn't be a surprise.

For old school D&D, I'm a roll first, 3d6 down the line, work up concept later.

On my second try (to get at least one 14 or higher), I got:

So, from that, Human Fighter. With the decent CHA, I'm thinking a knightly/noble background.

Though on second thought, maybe Elf Fighter. I could go with either, whichever fits the party vetter.

Not sure what else to do to proceed.

Looks good! I'd go with a Human to get the +1's on all the Abilities. With Str 16, and Dex 14 he'd be a good Fighter with a focus on Archery to get a +2 bonus. Private message off to you with what I came up with...
