OOC Chatter
Re: OOC Chatter
Sorry silifi, I didn't realize anyone was going down or I would have dragged you out. If you are still in the flames next action I will drag you out. I think you are at 0 now so hopefully we can get you out and a healer to you in time.

Re: OOC Chatter
Somehow I missed the clue about the hallway smelling like lamp oil...I gotta read the descriptions closer.

A putrid chemical stench mixed with the distinct smell of lamp oil.
Winter is coming...
Re: OOC Chatter

...I totally skipped over lamp oil too. I definitely read "putrid chemical" and remember thinking...well that could be anything!hedgeknight wrote: ↑Sat Feb 24, 2024 10:36 pm Somehow I missed the clue about the hallway smelling like lamp oil...I gotta read the descriptions closer.![]()

Re: OOC Chatter
Yeah, not our brightest moment.
Re: OOC Chatter
Yup, that is an understatement. Totally missed both.
Re: OOC Chatter
Those nasty, tricksy little dwarfs!
If Tuurma could be there, she'd be immune to the fire... well, except for one small thing, she'd have to be raging at the time...

Re: OOC Chatter
And so we'd be running the other way.
Re: OOC Chatter
Or dead already.

Re: OOC Chatter

subaltari deserves an award for his willingness to embrace his inner berserker.
Re: OOC Chatter
No doubt. My least favorite class.

Re: OOC Chatter
Agreed.
The class has potential, but the ramifications of not having a perfectly laid out contingency plan for every action they make are daunting.
And I think we all know how hard it is to plan things out properly in the PbP format.

Re: OOC Chatter
You would think that PbP would be easier to plan in, but in fact is harder for some weird reason.

Re: OOC Chatter
We discuss this a lot.
There is nothing like the advantage of sitting across the table from your companions when it comes to better planning.

Re: OOC Chatter
Thanks buddy, that means a lot to me.

I'm afraid this one class is a bit of a turd in the punchbowl of organized group play. Back in the D&D 3e days, the prestige class Berserker had that pesky habit of attacking its own party. I think a lot of DMs house-ruled that away, but in the groups I was in, we simply banned the class.
Re: OOC Chatter
It could still be discussed, if Tuurma survives and is not in shackles for the rest of her violent life

Best idea I can come up with is for Belloc, or some other mage, to keep a sleep spell in reserve just to put lights-out on the party's beserker when she runs out of enemies before her rage ends. Seems a little contrived for swords & sorcery, but I think that's what we'd do if we were sitting at a table. And when she made 5th level, we'd have to figure out something stronger

Re: OOC Chatter
I like that solution.......and there are certainly others.
I don't think the class is a total bust, but there has to be some checks and balances to their otherwise super power abilities.
Not affected by fire?

Re: OOC Chatter
We did a bunch of one shots, making new PC's every time when we started playing Hyperborea. Primarily to get a feel for it as quick as possible to decide if we wanted to stick with it as our system. The Berserker was the last class chosen to try and no one has run it since. For this one shot we actually made 3rd level characters and the Cleric with Hold Person was the best way to shut down the rage. Sleep did get used and was intentional taken by the Magician for that reason. Always best to have back ups.
