Chapter 1a: Mystery of Odlo - The chasm...then the tunnel

[OGRE MAGE]

Legless shouts up.

"There's no door! It's just a tunnel. Or maybe a drain of some kind. I will check it over after I try on these fine robes."

He looks at the stick with the mouth on it.

"Can you say anything besides help me?"

[AleBelly]

Rimilda and Nordman cross the chasm. Hailey suggests following the path Legless found below, while be dons the robes of the body at the chasm floor. The elf also appears to have discovered the source of the "help me" cries...it's a stick!

"Can you say anything besides help me?" asks Legless.

"Help me" it replies.

Palermo and Margit continue towards the room Wenceslas, Bobwhite, and the others entered. Yarnold and Zygmund enter the room, and the party in the chasm think they hear the din of battle in the room ahead! Margit and Palermo can enter the room next round, Nordman and Rimilda in two.

Map below. Those at the top have not crossed the chasm yet.

Four can cross per round now that there are PCs holding the rope on either side of the chasm. A grappling hook would allow descent into the chasm to join Legless without someone anchoring from the top. Actions?

Nordman, Rimilda, & Wenyld

Nordman "I will anchor this side." He wraps into the rope and holds it tight.

Rimilda will move into the next cave with the others.

Wenyld continues to anchor the rope.

Ayre, Baye, Cotgric, Duala

Cotgric says, "Nordman, I will help and you can get over next. I wish I could have retrieved that rope."

Ayre moves across the log with Rimilda

Baye continues to hold the torch looking behind him any of the toad creatures coming his way

Sully keeps the rope attached to Legless in hand while the others cross the log.

Legless nods at the stick, "of course I will help you little friend." He secures the stick in the sash of his new robes. "This actually might come in handy at some point." Then he uses his torch to look around for a safe path to descend into the lower portion of the ravine.

Palmero moves along towards the sound of combat ahead.

Legless is at the bottom of the ravine and doesn't see anything deeper than where he is. This is where the body was. At the foot of the ravine is the small tunnel he discovered. Right now he's the only one down there, with Sully and Radahn manning the ropes.

Legless can't be sure that it leads to the same place, just the same general direction. And, the opening he's referring to is at the bottom of the chasm, so it's also 30' below.

Opps! I thought you meant another 30 feet down from here. Sorry!

Legless checks out the items in the leather bag he just picked up.

"I will try to move over to the hole next to see what I can find."

Yeah I can see how that would have been confusing. My bad.

Am I to assume Legless enters the tunnel then? Looking at it previously he saw that it's wide enough to accommodate one person at a time, and the path appears to be dry (and stable).

Can he look it over closer first?

He sees that it’s dry and structurally sound. No signs of creatures or danger do the only way to know more is interact with the tunnel somehow…including entering. What could go wrong?

With no one else going down with Legless and the elf (with his good senses) already entering the tunnel, Hailey crosses the log and catches up with the others.

Legless leads his party of one into the breach tunnel.

Once everyone is across my plan is for Wenyld who is currently anchoring the rope to go down.

Bilberta helps Sisyphus up, then peers over the edge to see how Legless is doing. She walks over to Sully and Radahn. "Lower me down too, I don't want Legless going down there alone." She will descend the rope and enter the tunnel with Legless.

Sisyphus gets up, drying his eyes. He will cross the chasm via the log bridge. "Lost all my arrows back there. I hate to ask but does anyone have a spare weapon so I can be of use?"

Radahn still mans the rope, but calls down to Legless "Anything in that satchel?" Radahn will remain with the rope until he knows that those down below don't need help getting back up.

The majority of the party crosses the chasm to enter the door on the other side. Wenyld safely anchors those crossing as Radahn and Sully lower Bilberta into the chasm. Once all but Wenyld have crossed, Radahn and Sully lower him too into the chasm. They then cross the bridge to join the others.

All ropes, etc. are retained. If you have taken something, please mark your character sheets.

In case it was missed via dialog, Sisyphus has requested a weapon and Radahn asked about the contents of the leather bag Legless picked up.

For all but Legless, Wenyld, and Bilberta, follow the action here. Aside from last prep before splitting up, only Legless, Wenyld, and Bilberta should continue in this thread.

Reminder - only Legless, Wenyld, and Bilberta are involved past this point.

Legless, Bilberta, and Wenyld enter the dry, but cramped tunnel. It gets cramped enough that they have to crawl single file...but they press on. Legless notices his torchlight being drawn forward slightly, suggesting a slight draft from the chasm to whatever lies ahead. With Legless leading, after about 3-4 minutes of crawling they reach the end of the tunnel. A metal grate is above Legless at the dead-end. Whatever lies above is dark, with no sound at this point.

If Legless wants to try to move the grate, it requires a DC strength check of 12.

Wenyld grabbed the rope. She waits for Legless to get moving again.

To speed this up, if any of the three PCs can give a DC 12 strength check for 12.
