OOC Chatter
Re: OOC Chatter
I am not opposed to attempting to negotiate with whoever we encounter. But, we should be learning from our encounters and not just ignoring what we have learned. We have encountered Hyperborean Dwarves twice now and both times they attacked first. Weather provoked or not I suppose depends on your position, they clearly thought so. From Drests point of view they are clearly highly aggressive and dangerous, nearly wiping us out the first time we encountered them and they attacked without warning and they were clearly setting up an ambush for us the second time we encountered them.

I agree with the above.

Everything in Hyperborea is hostile. You have to work to make encounters non-hostile.
The problem with having every encounter be hostile immediately is that we can lose vital information. And, of course, vital hitpoints.

Yeah. We're half dead and we just arrived

Re: OOC Chatter
In my experience, that is old school D&D and the real challenge is being worn down over time. Hyperborea at least allows for faster recovery then the original versions, but not so fast that it negates it completely.
Re: OOC Chatter
So is it official, Akhilleus is voted leader? Three cheers; Huzzah
Though if I'd been there, I'd be tempted to vote for Drest... because how often do we get the opportunity to have a party leader with 3 CHA

From an outside perspective, it seemed to me the cause of this was at least partly the RPG problem of having a large party where everyone gives input, and the more PbP problem of simultaneous dialogue. Maybe the dwarfs would have worked with you otherwise, but they'd still be dirty tricksters who might turn on you later. Re: OOC Chatter
Drest would make an interesting leader and especially negotiator. LOL
I think part of this discussion is influenced by dwarf's being very different then the standard fantasy dwarf's of other games. Those are Lawful Good and although noted for their greed usually, they are also noted for their honor. Hyperborean Dwarf's are more the dark elves (older Norse) or dwarf's (later term that replaced dark elves) of Scandinavian mythology and have a Lawful Evil alignment. No where is it mentioned that they are honorable.

Lawful evil I can work with.

Re: OOC Chatter
Or at least try to work with, better than Chaotic Evil.

Re: OOC Chatter
Reminds me of playing Holmes Basic BITD, when at least one of our DMs had "Black Dwarves" in their dungeon as inspired by the middle figure here:

Cool illustration!
I've got to be honest. Regarding negotiations with other parties, I think Kain has a beak of gold
