General Chatter
Re: General Chatter
I think we bought the camping kit, so building a shelter and keeping as much as possible dry makes sense.
Re: General Chatter
Going by the Encumbrance thread:
- Gars bought a Wilderness Kit and left it with the mules.
- Lavin bought a Wilderness Kit and has it on her.
Re: General Chatter
If no one else is going to Ciarra will try to cross back over to the mules and set up a shelter there. With a rope across the river we can shuttle gear across to get enough under shelter to keep as much as possible dry and protect the mules.
Re: General Chatter
So that means we have a kit on each side of the river. We have tents, then, and don't need to "build" shelter?
Gars isn't leaving Ciarra alone with the mules (protect the healer!), so he will leave his pack safe and dry on the ruin-side of the river and cross the log after her. Gars and Ciarra can then share the night watch at the mules while Sleepy and Daravek share it across the river. We camp here at this riverside, with Daravek and Sleepy splitting the watch to cover the mules on the far back with their bowshot, Ciarra or I risking the log to have someone on their side to keep them from wandering and for further protection.
The wilderness survival checks depend on the amount of Survive skill in the group, so here's what we collectively have:
Survive-0:
Gars, Lavin, Ciarra
No Survive:
Sleepy, Daravek
Also note that Daravek has Wizard's Grandeur:
...he's immune to these questions. You may sleep comfortably without shelter or bedding as per the privation rules on page 51.

Re: General Chatter
Yes, Daravek will just be mildly put out, probably spend more time rummaging through his pack and reading the book before falling asleep in a pile of leaves.
Re: General Chatter
Wilderness Kits have one tent each. They are designed for individual use.
From the rules on p. 50, "Characters with Survival-0 can put together a minimal lean-to of boughs and branches in wooded areas". Considering how warm it is, if everyone had a lean-to and there was a fire, this would normally be enough. If it rains, and it's looking pretty likely that it will, there is a small chance that someone who only has a lean-to will get sick overnight. Sickness in this case would probably be represented by some additional System Strain, plus an inability to lose existing System Strain by resting until they got over the cold.
Can someone give me a definitive list of actions for the evening, by character?

Re: General Chatter
Well Sleepy really isn't well prepared for roughing it (no wilderness kit and no survival skills)...
-Ciarra is crossing the river to keep an eye on the animals and to string a rope across the river
-Gars is crossing the river to keep an eye on Ciarra
-Daravek is able to rough it thru Wizard's Gandeur
-Sleepy will sleep in the mouth of the cave to stay dry and make a mental note to prepare better next time
-Lavin has a wilderness kit
-Ciarra is crossing the river to keep an eye on the animals and to string a rope across the river
-Gars is crossing the river to keep an eye on Ciarra
-Daravek is able to rough it thru Wizard's Gandeur

Re: General Chatter
Just a couple of minor changes based on the previous discussion, I think?

-Daravek is able to rough it thru Wizard's Gandeur, will take a shift keeping an eye on Ciarra and Gars in case of danger across the river, ready to raise alarm and armed with a bow.
-Sleepy will sleep in the mouth of the cave to stay dry and make a mental note to prepare better next time, will rotate with Daravek for the other shift.
-Lavin has a wilderness kit
Re: General Chatter
I will randomly generate the floor plan for the second level of the Ruin this weekend and then we'll see if digging in the pit yields access or not.

Re: General Chatter
This is taking too long. Can everyone post here with their vote so we can get moving again?
- Leave the axe beaks
- Kill the axe beaks
- Take the axe beaks back to town
Re: General Chatter
Gars wants to leave them. He is okay if someone wants to kill them. He is against trying to take wild adults back to town.
...The animal trainer only wanted eggs to domesticate, right?

Re: General Chatter
Ciarra wants to profit somehow from the axebeaks, and driving them to market is going to be easier than carrying the butchered remains. Since we are split someone else can break the tie.
Re: General Chatter
I am heading into the woods for the week. Will be back late Sunday the 5th or Monday the 6th. NPC my character(s) as you see fit.
Have a great week everyone!

Re: General Chatter
Gars will concede.
When all the treasure is crossed to the mules, he will lead the mules downstream while the others drive the herd of muzzled axe beaks, joining up when they reach a ford.

Re: General Chatter
Sounds like we have a plan?
Re: General Chatter
I didn't get a chance to post tonight but I will update tomorrow. Looks like some of the party are crossing the river to collect the mules, while others are roping the axe beaks together and taking them upstream to look for a ford. Then, once reunited, the party will head back to town.
Re: General Chatter
Upstream is away from town, downstream is towards town, right?
Upstream is not far from the lake and harpies. If we intend to actually make for town, we should go downstream.

Re: General Chatter
Rivers originate either from high ground or from large bodies of water. The only high ground around here is the Mountain to your south. The only large bodies of water around here are the Swamp and the Lake.
You obviously haven't explored around here all that much but, from your map, you know of a river coming from the Lake and this ain't it. So it's pretty safe to say this one originates from the Swamp and merges either into the river coming out of the Lake or directly into the Moche.
On this particular stretch of the river, it's flowing N to S. So upstream is more toward the town.
