Checking Out The Caves (initial run)
Re: Checking Out The Caves (initial run)
Renna
Renna will march with the group and attempt to talk with Pim and Crobeus "Will you be joining the group to the Caves of the Unknown you are both very welcome." and she addes to Pim, "We could really use a skilled locksmith to join us!" and to Crobeus, " A sword arm of your skill would be a great benefit."
Just trying to make sure that when the groups separate that we know which way everyone is going.

Crobeus - Human Paladin
Assuming he gets descriptions of the different cave options either in the tavern or on the road since he was absent for much of the conversation last night, Crobeus will reply with his preference."I would like to go to the single cave. I don't really feel up to a bigger adventure right now."
He will have his sword and shield ready near the back of the group.

Loyn-dwarf fighter
Loyn eyes up everyone,“We have a good group of adventurers in this party, all here for different reasons. But, as we trudge along let’s remember, our survival depends on how well we all work together. That being said, spreading out rather than walking right down the middle of the trail would be better. If we were to get jumped by a range attack, anyone with a shield should try and cover those with missile weapons until we can get to cover.” He readies his battle axe and looks to the ground asking Moradin to give him the courage and knowledge for what lies ahead.

Re: Checking Out The Caves (initial run)
Sylla eyes the dwarf with raised eyebrows.
"I was about to suggest the same thing, almost. If we get ambushed, they will probably try to attack us from the flanks, and in our rear. I would suggest we split the group in two (for simplicity's sake, let's just use the group division intended for the caves) with the second group travelling a bit behind. That way, if the first group is attacked in the flank or rear by bandits, the second group can quickly do the same to the bandits, hopefully sending them running in panic."

Dredd
The Half-Orc remains quiet on the trek from the Keep. He doesn't mind being in the back of the group, because it gives him an opportunity to guard the rear with no one expecting anything more. He hears the paladin clanking up behind them as well as another Dwarf. He looks at Rida and says, "If there is anything waiting on us, they couldn't miss hearing those two come running along. Guess we'll find out in a minute."

Re: Checking Out The Caves (initial run)
To The Caves!
Outside the Keep
Early Morning
Accustomed to locating things in the wilderness, the groups outdoorsy types search the ground and nearby trees, spotting no threats. Several recent tracks are found along this forest path, including horses and other beasts of burden. Ruts from carts and wagons are also obvious. Boot prints and bare foot prints are prevalent, and Keya even finds what can only be described as a hybrid human foot/dog paw print the likes of which he’s never seen before.
The front group cautiously moves up the well traveled forest path, urging the others to follow at a distance in case of danger ahead. Somewhere near the half way point along their leafy detour, they spot a pair of figures off in the distance.
About fifty yards ahead of your position, a heavy log has apparently been rolled out to block the middle of the path. One figure sits on the log with their back to you, watching the other direction, while another faces directly towards you. Peering in your direction for a moment, the human sized figure eventually stands and waves for you to come forward.
The commonly dressed figure shouts something you can’t understand from a distance, continuing to wave you towards them. The other figure eventually turns to greet you as well, waving kindly and then motioning you to come forward.
The group bringing up the rear sees the others suddenly stop in front of them, still unable to see the two figures in the distance yet.
Actions?
If Gyb wanted to stay back on the road, just let me know that, since he is in the second group anyway.

Dredd
Hearing the shouts from up ahead perks Dredd up. He switches his spear from his shoulder to both hands and as the column of adventurers stops, he steps to the side of the road to get a better look at who's doing all the hollering.

Rida
Rida slides to the opposite side as Dredd and turns so he can watch both that side and back, letting those in front deal with that direction. He readies his crossbow.
Softly for Dredd to hear, "Watch the back and side is our job."

Dredd
"Huh? Oh...yeah right," Dredd says to Rida, turning to watch the forest and the back road. The life of a soldier is to follow orders, and to follow them well. Why that teaching from his father suddenly sprung to mind is puzzling to him.

Gyb
Gyb is fine with staying in the group. He just wasn't volunteering to scout ahead.
Gyb notes the increase in tension as the group stops. He crouches down yo make himself a smaller target.

Sylla, when she can't find Dredd, gestures to Renna and Crobeus to join her on either side as they approach the two men. Assuming they both do, she will stop withing being-heard-while-talking-very-loud-distance.
Assuming her regular regal-ish stance, she speaks loud and clear:
"Greetings! I am the envoy of a troop of considerable strength and we mean to pass this obstacle without further ado. Do you object?"

Re: Checking Out The Caves (initial run)
Crabgrass
Goes through his small repertoire of spells to consider the effects and affects and whatnot. Is this danger? Are they brigands, is this a trap?
In the end he watches signs from those more skilled in being ambushed; the rangers, the monks feeling they will note danger hopefully before he does. usually when an arrow hits him.
If Crobeus travels with him he will counsel him concerning Thirteen's death, offering some thoughts that the half-orc was definitely surprising, having reached relative safety only to come running back to help save him.
"There must have been a divine purpose in his actions, not just a madness."

Re: Checking Out The Caves (initial run)
The men appear unarmed, dressed in common clothing and wearing traveling cloaks.
Their stance is not aggressive in the least as they continue waving you forward.
“CANT HEAR YOU! STEP FORWARD PLEASE!”
The second man points to a signpost next to him on the edge of the trail, but you can’t read what it says without getting closer.
Actions?

Keya
Keta looks at the dropped tree and looks to see how long ago it was fell.
He moves to the right side of the trail and looks into the woods for a trail or easy way to go perpendicular to the road.
He calls over his left shoulder. "Hey ho, hold up."
He makes sure his bow is ready and watches for reaction.

Re: Checking Out The Caves (initial run)
Do I read the 1e rules correctly that Charm person range of 12" means 120 yards outdoors? So they're both within range?
Re: Checking Out The Caves (initial run)
Renna
Renna will move up to the front to be part of the envoy group, and will say in a lower volume with her hand over her mouth, "This smells of brigands with archers from the flanks and/or a pit trap or even some people demanding a toll for the heck of it. Let's move up off the main trail with half the party on each side, that will foil the archers and pits."

Re: Checking Out The Caves (initial run)
Sylla answers with her mouth half closed, without turning to Renna:
"Not a bad idea, not at all. Let us go to the left of the obstacle. Can you go back and tell the other group to go to the right of it?"
If no one objects, let's do it like this. Renna group to the left, Loyn group to the right.

Loyn places his shield in front of himself. He whispers… “Moving to the right in search of bad guys!” Then moves up the tree line.

Rida
Rida follows Loyn just into the trees on the right and begins to slowly advance. He will continue to be alert for attacks from the right flank and rear.
"Following."

Crobeus moves up to the front as requested. Seeing the man gesture to the sign, he shouts to be heard. "GOOD SIR, THANK YOU FOR POINTING OUT THE SIGN TO US. WOULD YOU BE SO KIND AS TO READ IT ALOUD TO US?"
