Sylla glances at the map as well, intrigued.

"Interesting. Your father was quite an adventurer, it seems. How did he rate the different caves? Based on the deadliness of the beasts nesting in each?"

Renna

"Interesting, my brother always told me growing up that that the Caves of Chaos are where the multitude of adventures tried to seek there fortunes, but the best place to travel with the best treasure was the Caves of Unknown. They had always gathered more treasure over time with less adventurers looting them and they were less prepared to defend themselves. Like most of the maps of the area, they are not there. They are in a hidden location that I happen to know. I there are enough brave travelers that is were I was hoping to lead us in the morning."

Seeing that everyone is eating she will say, "Can I please get a stew as well!" She will hand 2 sp for the stew.

2 sp subtracted.

Stobart

Stobart looks at the map for a few moments, twisting his head this way and that, like he is looking for something.

He sighs.

"My father visited the caves in his youth, before I was born. He almost died and retired on the treasure he found. When I told him I was going to the caves he told me to be cautious and gave me this..."

Stobart rummages around in his pack for a moment and produces a small map:

"I can't quite see how this ties up with Loyn's map. Maybe these are for your other caves, Renna, or maybe I'm just not good with maps. He did say that these were two separate caves, full of goblins, and an ogre was laired there..."

He taps the map at cave 'E'.

... they used a secret door to sneak up on it and kill it. Who knows what is living there now, this was 25 years ago."

Pimlan perks up "Oh, wow. Your father was famous? Ooo maps." he says between slurping stew and drinking. "Whamph was that somph one said bout strenph in numphers?" he says with a mouth full, before chewing and swallowing. "Sorry, yes I agree strength in numbers. I'd never brave the caves of chaos alone."

Sylla casually glances at a bowl of stew on the table next to them as Stobart showcases the map. With that her eyes widen with sudden realization and she bolts for the bar.

She slows down just in time not to crash into the counter and resumes her more normal graceful stance.

"Excuse me Sir Wilf. I happened to notice parts of an animal, ehrm meat, in the stew? If so, would it be possible to get a bowl...without? If not, I will have some bread and vegetables instead, no problem.

She smiles warmly.

Crabgrass

Has not issue with meat stew, Sylla could always spoon portions out or set them aside for pets and Familiars.
How did he rate the different caves? Based on the deadliness of the beasts nesting in each?
He overhears the question.

"Please, let me study the map too. I might be able to shed some insight from my scribbled notes", he gestures to the others.

"The caves have a multitude of histories. Different tribes taking over at one point or another, predatory creatures, bandits. Is there a particular nook or cranny you want to locate?"

"Caves of Chaos and Caves of Unknown? I have already commited myself to Renna's expedtion, so to the latter I will go. However, I am also interested in meeting this hermit. Perhaps if they are both in the same direction we could visit either?"

While the ale is tasty, the venison stew is particularly good, and just salty enough to keep you filling your mugs again and again.

Wilf keeps the drinks and stew coming, with Calista eventually joining him from the kitchen to meet Loyn. "Groyn was your father? But you didn't know Fingal at all. That's weird. Welcome all the same Master Shortbeard. Your father was well known to almost all of us here. Quite a character, that one."

Maps are studied and rumors shared over eats and drinks in the tavern. Although many seem interested in a jaunt out to the caves in the morning, nobody actually steps up to take on the job of organizing the trek. (Unless I missed something?)

Suddenly, anyone who promised to join the missing duo that remained outside the Keep get a strange sensation something terrible is about to happen.

Sylla clears her throat, stands up and takes the lead on the expedition planning with the natural overconfidence present in all true elves. (Also, she does have the third highest charisma score of all player characters, very soon to be second highest, I fear.)

"Listen up, this is what I propose:"

Just let me put the kids to bed and I will come up with suggestions on group divison and so on. If someone else wants to go first, please do.

Sylla clears a table and asks Loyn and Stobart to put their maps next to each other for easy comparison.

"So. I have been doing a fair bit of reading myself on this topic in the ancient and sacred Sylvan Libraries. Since they are the finest libraries known, I think we have enough information to go on, together with what you know and your maps, of course. According to my studies these are indeed the Caves of Chaos" she says and points at the maps. "If we follow the North Road east from here towards Loftwick capital, they should be fairly easy to locate, especially given that lots of people in this very keep seem to have visited at some point. It's about four miles walking distance."

She takes a deep breath.

"And Renna, it seems to be the Cave of the Unknown, singular form. By cross referencing different maps and tales I am pretty sure that the Cave of the Unknown is actually The Old Tunnel. Or at least the Old Tunnel should lead to the Cave of the Unknown. Again, it should not be too hard to find since maps indicate there's a well trodden path there branching off the North Road in north western direction right where the road meets the Goblinwater river."

She looks for Meinhardt.

"Some of us, including myself, have shown some interest in locating the whereabouts of a certain mad hermit. Information about him is scarce, but place him, or his camp rather, directly north of here. Possibly near what the locals call the Old Glade. Most likely, he is long gone, and his possessions probably carried off to one or more of said caves."

Another deep breath.

"There, I think I covered everything. So, where does that leave us?"

Hold on, second post incoming with suggested groups...

Crabgrass

Thinking we or someone may have missed something obvious.

"You dont think the strange figure who stilled the Bulette may be this mad old hermit?"

He thinks which might be madder, the hermit with the shell suit or the blaggard rogue 13? He wonders how he and the paladin fare. Then ale comes along and his mind drifts back to his stomach and studies.

Sylla

"May I suggest two groups that do a first foray into the cave and the caves, respectively. We can travel together most of the way there, even. Then we gather back here, at this very room, three days from now, and share what we have learned."

She takes notes and eventually lands in these two suggested groups. I put those with specific wishes in their groups first, then divided for two balanced parties with F, C, M-U in each. By the way, we're short on thieves.

Caves of Chaos group - "The Blast from the Past"

Loyn (F)
Stobart (C)
Sylla (M-U/C)
Keya (C/R)
Gyb (M)
Crabgrass (M-U/C)

Cave of the Unknown group - "Team Eldorado"
Renna (M-U/C)
Meinhardt (M-U)
Rida (F)
Haldric (C)
Pim (F/T)

Pimlan finishes his stew and drink and flags someone down "You gotta loaf of bread still warm maybe? Oh an another pint of the honey mead." he says with a smile trying not to interrupt the planning. "Hmm team Eldorado where'd you come up with that name? It's interesting." then as if remembering something important "OH crap! We left them two guys outside waitin' for us." he jumps up from his seat pounds down the refill of mead and grabs the bread to go leaving his payment on the table/bar in a hurry as he dashes back to the gate. "I'm up for the plan. Meet back at the gate!" he says over his shoulder as he makes his way out the door.

The young serving girl Jess rushes down the stairs to help with the growing food and drink orders, keeping mugs and pitchers filled while unashamedly listening in on all the conversation. “I have certain adventuring skills.” She says to nobody in particular.

When she notices the strange arm on Crabgrass, she leans in close to the elf. “Hey mister. What’s with that metal arm there? Looks pretty cool.”

Rida

Rida remains calm, but elevates his tone "The Mad Hermit is dangerous!"

Rida committed to helping Loyn find his father. He is very stubborn/strong willed (18 Wisdom) so will take some convincing to prevent him from going in the same group as Loyn. You also are missing some, not counting the 2 dealing with the bullet.

I didn't really miss them, only figured they were already on their first (and last?) adventure.

Rida was in that group to even out the Fighter ratio, but if he switches to Loyn's group, maybe the two stalwart landshark hunters can join The Cave of the Unknown group, as to give them a little punch?

I'm just trying to get us started, that's all :)

Rida

A good start. Sorry I should have been clearer on who you were missing.

Magdal (R)
Dredd (F)
Bugs (T)

Maybe move Rida into the first group, then add Bugs to the first group and the other 2 to the second group.

Loyn

“Nice to meet you Calista, looks like everyone knows my father. So, he adventured with this Fingal, sounds like they were good friends …do either of you know where he is? Maybe he has some information.

He drinks more ale, his anxiety is increasing. He wishes the dynamic duo would walk in, speaking of their wild tales and everything in his heart would be right again!

Loyn exhales slowly,“Getting teams together is just one part, we need supplies and to ready ourselves mentally and physically. I don’t want to move too hastily, we need to be prepared for anything that comes at us!”
