Stobart

The cleric smiles at Pim

"I think that after such a long journey it would be wise for us all to seek a good meal and a comfortable bed for a night before heading out again into danger, and find this mouse person."

When Keya mentions a map he looks intrigued

"A map? I have little skill as a cartographer, but I would be interested in seeing it. It might make sense with what I saw of my fathers map."

Thirteen Twojaws
"Fate is the fire in which we burn."
"Let us hope you burn not."
So she dug down into her nearly empty coin purse and fished out a silver, putting it on the plate.
"Thank you Ma'am. The Gods see not how much we give but the sacrifice it is measured against. An attitude of gratitude will always fill your stomach."
"Ah. I will off my gatherings from earlier, large bundles of wild garlic, rosemary, mint and a pound of berries."

"Perhaps Magdal and I may one day dine at your table. It sounds so flavoursome."

He looks at the offering plate, not wishing to press a point, putting his crowbar away. "The good paladin Croebus has given enough to cover all our sojourn Thanksgiving. I will present these in the Keep sanctuary." he says, sliding the coins into his belt purse.

He looks at the grey beast wandering in the distance. On oliphant, an ox? "I heard there were fifty shades of grey. So my tutor mistress taught me. She had a book on the subject. I cannot read good so it helped the pages opened as a pop up diorama, rather lurid I must say."

Rida

Stobart's question seems to click with Rida and Rida is the most talkative anyone has seen. "Don't know. Never knew him. Just learned who he was before heading here from my mother. He doesn't even know I was born. undecided if I will talk to him, not very good at talk."

Great stuff so far everyone!

Again, please try to assume that some of this information could have been shared amongst yourselves while you traveled for the last few days, so it isn’t such an overload all at one time.

Arrival Day
Late Afternoon
Mostly Sunny

While a group of fifteen budding adventurers stop to stare at a strange creature in the distance, the rest of the caravan takes their leave, including those few remaining who mean to stay at the Keep. While ideas are shared and factions assemble, those with good sight see something else moving through the rocky fields, heading dangerously close to the massive grey monster prowling the area.

This other figure is small. Human sized or less, and stocky in stature. They appear to be almost turtle-like, in that there is an odd growth or shell covering its back. It waddles through the field in a roughly northerly direction, possibly just departing the Keep, and will be directly in line with the much larger creature within minutes. It doesn’t seem to be paying any attention to the menace.

When the grey beast crests a hill, everyone gets a better look, though unless one of them can suddenly fly, there is no chance of reaching the area before the inevitable confrontation.

Rida

To Stobart, "Looking for a mouse?"

Upon seeing the action unfold Rida kneels down, setting he halbred down and he cocks and loads his crossbow. He then becomes very focused and observes the coming battle.

"Ready."

Crabgrass

Hoists his pack, buttoning down pouches and pockets.

Time for flight, without wings; but he can move legs, faster as the need arise. The grey behemoth can ravage the strange farmer in his field. He is a little intrigued by the squat figure wondering if it is related to the great beast, its keeper, trainer, a mage. Using a shell to disguise itself or perhaps even obsfucate his proximity to the large creature, disguising himself as a beetle or tortoise and hoping the beast doesn't feast on those?

Speculations. I am tempted to just head for the Keep but maybe watching the scene might give me some observations I can use for my own safety later.

Thirteen Twojaws.

The half-orc spits. He picks up a smooth pebble, fitting into the leather cup of the sling, he winds it up with several fanciful wrist twirls and with a hop forward, releases the stone to ...

Thirteen Twojaws: looses Sling bullet [1d20-1]=8-1=7 [1d6+1]=4+1=5

factoring in any distance penalty, it looks well short or wide. "Can't hit a barn door with a banjo." he bemoans himself. If others berate him, "Low sun in my eyes, couldn't focus properly."

Keya

To far or not, Keya holsters his weapon and grabs and strings his bow and will begin running when ready.

Gyb

"Anger it if you like,"says Gyb. "but it may eat you, beware! All your metal clothes wont help you then. Gyb will run, run away. Gyb is faster than...faster than..." He wracks his brain for a suitable phrase to complete the simile.

Crobeus - Human Paladin

Hearing Crobeus pay attention to him he scurries over to the Paladin. "Yup gobos. That's what they told me anyways. Hmm, that is some neato armor you got on there. Are you some sort of knight, mister?" he asks Crobeus.
"No, little one, I am no knight, just a humble paladin of Pholtus," he replies, gesturing to the moon and sun on his shield. "Some day, I hope to afford a set of plate, but for now this banded mail will have to do.

Seeing others readying for battle- or actually firing missiles- with the large, grey beast, he asks for caution. "Hold, friends. We are too far from this Mystic Mastic to engage it and we cannot get there in time to save that odd little fellow. Rushing headlong after a tiring journey will wear us out and may put ourselves in great danger. We should take this opportunity to watch and learn what we can. Any knowledge we gain may be useful in the future if we come upon the beast again.

Pim smiles and nods his head to Stobart. "Yes, I'd like a good meal or so, as well. Being on the road I miss out on second breakfast, along with a few other meals I was once accustomed to." yup borrowing material from Tolkien.

To the reply from Crobeus, Pim looks amazed "Oh wow! A Paladin! That's very similar to a knight. I bet you've been on so many adventures. You'll have to tell me a tale of one sometime."

Reaction to the big armored grat thing "Hmm that is like a walking armored beast. I doubt that silng pebble will do much to it. That thing probably won't even notice if I hit it with a javelin. Maybe we can just sneak past it or distract it so we can go past it." he suggests.

Loyn-dwarf fighter

Yes, Crobeus, we can only watch…although if I were a creature …that is what I would be, look at that impenetrable natural armor, quite impressive!
