Newcomer to the TTRPG scene
Newcomer to the TTRPG scene
Hi everyone,
I'm a pretty new player to RPGs - I had played a couple games way back in the late aughts, (I believe they were 3.5e, but not sure) but never got consistently into it - but then over the past couple months I have become very intrigued and started looking into games. That's led me to one ongoing live online campaign with some friends (5e) and a couple PbP games over on another forum (FATE/Pathfinder/Forbidden Lands) but there is one itch that I can't quite scratch and I was pleasantly surprised to find people here might be able to help.
You see, one of my big loves in fantasy fiction is pulpy, weird fictiony type stuff like Robert E Howard, Clark Ashton Smith, and Jack Vance - and so I became drawn to a particular OSR title, Hyperborea/AS&SH. Being a more niche title, I've struggled to find live online groups (and I have a 3 year old which makes scheduling generally difficult, hence PbP) I tried pitching it over on the other forum I am using, but didn't get much interest. It looks like you guys have an active game or two already running, which is great.
I'm not sure if there are any open recruitments currently for Hyperborea, but I would be willing to DM as well - although I'm very new to the scene I've been binging stuff about how to DM OSR games in particular, so I think I could handle it asynchronously.
Anyway, excited to meet you all and looking forward to playing some games - Hyperborea or otherwise!

AS&SH is such good stuff!
Welcome silifi, I think you will fit in well here
Just an FYI, your first two posts are moderated. It's an anti-spam measure we have that works for us.
But after that you can post without delay, PM other members, and join games - WOOT!
So be well and be welcome!

This is a game about killing things and taking their stuff so you can become more powerful in order to kill bigger things and take even better stuff.

Welcome Aboard silifi!
I love Hyperborea. I am currently running a FTF Hyperborea campaign and have been working on getting a game ready to run on here, but some personal stuff came up and I am way behind on it. I hope to get it going eventually.
Ogre Mage runs a great game here.

Please PM him once you get another post up about joining. He is running multiple groups in the game and ours is just getting back to the city to recruit new members.

Welcome silifi!
As usual, Rex is totally correct.
Snoop around for a while in our game threads if you like and let me know what you think.

Awesome, glad to hear that the campaign is still open for some new people - I did a little poking around the threads last night and it looks fun.

Re: Newcomer to the TTRPG scene
Welcome! Ogre Mage runs a good game, and I'm not just saying that because I know him in real life and he could squash me like a bug.
On November 2nd I will be participating in another 24 hour game of Dungeons & Dragons as part of Extra Life. This organization uses gaming to help raise money to donate to children's hospitals. I'm raising money for Marshfield Children's Hospital in Marshfield, WI, and all money I raise will go to that hospital. All donations are tax-deductible. Please take a moment to check out my donation page below. Thank you.
