Treasure Hunting…Desks and Doors

While Zan quietly gathers up the writing supplies, Cassius, Fahima, and ROAN :D try to figure out what to do about the desk and door.
Outside the room, the tied up warrior begins to stir.
Vilana looks at Sai and says, "The others are not watching. I think we should slit his throat. Who's gonna know?"

Somewhere in the distant corridors, Vilana and Sai hear screams and a deep rumble...

Cassius

"Nothing here, which is odd. Someone looks to have been living here. So we have the locked drawer and the other door. Can someone detect magic on the drawer?"

"We could always just axe it open."

Roan moves back out to the hall. "Dun matter ta me, I was ready ta crack his skull open earlier." he says in a lower tone to Vilana looks at Sai, suspecting he knows what the chatter was about.

Roan moves back out to the hall. "Dun matter ta me, I was ready ta crack his skull open earlier." he says in a lower tone to Vilana looks at Sai, suspecting he knows what the chatter was about. The big man begins to move his fingers which are nearly white from being tied behind his back. He grunts something unintelligible and sighs.
Fahima moves back to the door, leaving Zan and Cassius inside the room.
"What are they doing?" Vilana asks. "Find anything useful?"

The big man begins to squirm in his bonds...at about the same time as three other men, guards from the look of them, appear near the end of the slanted hallway. They are sweating and their faces are full of fear. And then, they see your group standing outside...and the big man on the ground.

Fahima

Just loud enough for her party to hear her, "We have been spotted."

She launches a bullet at the closest one with her staff-sling.

Staff- Sling Bullet [1d20+4]=12+4=16 to hit [1d4+1]=3+1=4 damage

Sai

Hold your actions, we are not here for you. We have come for the Lizard King. He draws his long sword and holds it to the big man's throat. Explain yourselves. Why do you run?

"Sounds like they found something out there Zan. Let's go look and we'll come back for this door."

If Zan goes along, he will go back out to the hall with the rest of the group.

Treasure Hunting…Standoff

The big man begins to squirm in his bonds...at about the same time as three other men, guards from the look of them, appear near the end of the slanted hallway. They are sweating and their faces are full of fear. And then, they see your group standing outside...and the big man on the ground.
Fahima reacts almost immediately, firing a sling bullet at one of the men, striking his solidly in the forehead! He yells and goes down, writhing on the floor. The other two men draw their swords.
"What the hell?" one of them says. "We just came to tell the Captain about the monster."

Roan heaves a sigh and mutters, "Lovely," as he raises his crossbow and takes aim on the speaker.
Sai draws steel as well and lays it at the throat of the big man on the ground, the "Captain." Who is straining against his bonds.
Hold your actions, we are not here for you, Sai says. We have come for the Lizard King. Explain yourselves. Why do you run?

The two men exchange looks and the one who spoke says, "You're here for Sakatha? That don't make sense. We just..."
"Shut up!" the man on the floor says, quite loudly. "Idiots," he growls.

Hearing the talk out in the hall, Cassius and Zan exit the room, which causes the two men, plus their companion who is getting to his feet; blood streaming down his face, to get even more nervous.
It appears there is a standoff. Who will break the tension?

Roan "Alright, who tha hell are you lot?" he says becoming belligerent. He moves his crossbow so that it aims at their captain's neck. "Spill it er I'm gonna have ta spill yer captain's blood." any of Roans companions can tell by the look in his eye his threat is real but he laments that it is coming to this. There is a look of sorrow in the dwarf's eyes.

Cassius

"Captain? Don't tell me you've got a command here." Cassius looks down at the bound man held at bolt-point.

He pauses for a moment, recalling something. "You aren't Captain Gord, are you? Because that would be something. Which politician sent you here?"

Cassius remarks to Roan. "Keep on him for a moment, but I'm starting to suspect something else is going on here."

He calls to the guards. "Where's the wizard? I don't want any more bloodshed and loose spells getting cast always cause problems. No offense guys."

Treasure Hunting…Power Struggle

Roan "Alright, who tha hell are you lot?" he says becoming belligerent. He moves his crossbow so that it aims at their captain's neck. "Spill it er I'm gonna have ta spill yer captain's blood."
"Now hold on!" one of the men says, taking a step forward. "No need to go that far. Maybe we can work something out."

Fahima starts whirling her staff-sling.
"Stay there or you'll catch another one!"
The man stops where he is and glances back at his companions. The bleeding one is leaning against the wall; the other looks torn between what to do. These three are young, and appear inexperienced.

Cassius
"Captain? Don't tell me you've got a command here." Cassius looks down at the bound man held at bolt-point.
He pauses for a moment, recalling something. "You aren't Captain Gord, are you? Because that would be something. Which politician sent you here?"
"Fuckin' elves," the man on the ground growls, rolling over on his side so he can look up at his captors. "Always looking for who's in charge, eh? Well, who's in charge of your shitshow of a group?"

Cassius remarks to Roan. "Keep on him for a moment, but I'm starting to suspect something else is going on here."
He calls to the guards. "Where's the wizard? I don't want any more bloodshed and loose spells getting cast always cause problems. No offense guys."
"Wizard?" the guard speaker asks with a shrug. "What wizard?"

Roan nods his head slightly "If it saves an time I'm thinkin too many lords be playin at bad games ere and we all be caught up in this shite. Go ahead tell em what lord sent us ere. Maybe it'll loosen their tongues so I ain't gotta spill no blood."
"Lord?" the big man chuckles. "Figures you lot would be workin' for some petty ass lord."

Zan is interested in what he has missed and listens to learn.

Sai leans a little harder on his Long Sword. Tip down. Let's Hear it Captain. Who do you work for? My guess would be, for yourself.
"Hey, you got it, Elf. It's all about me."

"Actually...he's wrong. It's all about me."
The voice comes from behind Zan, somewhere in the secret room.
"I have a wand pointed in your direction. It will incinerate anything it touches. Now...do me a favor and untie my friend. Nobody else has to die today."

"I don't need their help, boss." The big man grunts and strains and the bonds around his wrists split and break! He slaps Sai's sword away from his neck and pushes himself into a sitting position and begins working on the ropes around his feet. Ignoring the blood running down his neck from where the sword cut him, looks up at Sai and smiles, but not with his eyes. "You and me...we gonna have a discussion when I get up."
