Hunt Or Be Hunted

[Revenant]

More shouts of pain and panic emanate from the circle of darkness but one figure manages to find his way out, the red-haired dwarf emerges with a hand axe in each hand chewing a slice of boar as grease runs down his long beard. He emerges just as Wilwarin the intense butterfly concentrating on reaching the tent. The dwarf spits out a glob of fat and runs in pursuit of her intending to clip her wings.

Niserie didn't know who the girl was or what she looked like but she did know Nicniven had sent her to this camp, so far from her home, to find her. And somehow she knew that the girl was held against her will within that tent. As approaches from behind she can see two shadows outlined by the lantern light within. One shadow appears to be bound to a chair and the other stands over her a blade outlined in her hand. She pulls the girl's head back and raises the blade as a bloodcurdling scream sounds from within the tent. Niserie fires her bow at the standing shadow and her eye follows the first arrow fly through the worn canvas of the tent and hit that shadow who lets out her own scream this time, one of surprise as the second arrow begins its journey. That second arrow too finds its target ripping through the new hole in the canvas. Niserie smiles knowing the girl is safe for the moment. And then she sees the shadow rip through the back of the tent as that shadow takes form and starts running in her direction.

Bryne takes aim again at the orcish woman but her shot goes awry missing her and hanging in the canvas tent she stood next to. The momentarily unarmed orcish woman pulls the arrow from the tent and wielding it like a dagger, she sprints towards Bryne. However, Bryne second shot hits true between the woman's eyes. She drops several feet in front of the ranger.

Thena sends her Silence spell at the man from Lupre as he is about to shout more orders but finds his voice stolen by Tempus' will. The man's face twists in hatred as he spies Thena and pulls his sword. You can see the two-hander pulled from its sheath as he dashes in the priestess' direction.

Mave has apparently been practicing using her bow and both shots hit the orcish man one directly in the heart and sending him crashing backwards to the ground.

Torvik realizing his target is now on the move switches to Durvan's Shortsword and both take off in pursuit of the fleeing guard. Kade and Torvik both strike at the guard but he is too swift and nimbly darts away from their blows. Vari continues shooting her bow at the Man from Lupre and both shots hit slowing him some but he still keeps heading for Thena. Ruskin aims a knife throw at the fleeing guard and manages to hit. His second throw is off though and it falls short. But he has gotten the guard's attention and the man now realizes he has nowhere to run as he sees Wilwarin dart past him. He turns to face Torvik and Kade in melee.

Wilwarin much to her surprise reaches the tent and darts inside right after Esdra and run outside towards Niserie. Wilwarin shes a frightened young woman bound to a chair inside the tent apparently unharmed. Pleading eyes look up at you.

As Wilwarin enters the tent, four figures emerge from the smaller tent. An older elven man dressed in leather and furs wielding a short sword, a younger man with a hideous scar dressed in black leathers holding spiked hammer, another man his face partially covered with a skin mask and grey robes holding a gnarled wooden staff and a dark haired woman dressed in heavy plated armor with battleaxe in hand. The older elven man does a loud wolf howl.

You all hear the roll of thunder as the sky becomes overcast.

Praying under her breath Niserie hopes the Lady of Copper and Crystal hasn't sent her beyond her depth.

Wilwarin, disappointed to have guessed incorrectly about the location of her quarry, nonetheless runs into the tent. At least she can free the prisoner, before hunting down Zedamande. Hopefully she can use Nacquessë to cut the girl free, and send her to the protection of the archers, before returning to the fray.

If the dwarf engages before next turn Wilwarin hastily (and ineffectively) steps between the girl and him: [1d20]=7

If looks could kill, Niserie would be dead as such was the look Esdra gave the elf up in the tree. She glances back at the sight of Wilwarin (another elf!) now helping the girl to escape. She turns back to look at Niserie, with a look of fury, and exclaims in a thick accent, "So it is Aurens behind you two!" Her face contorts further as Niserie again releases her arrows striking her where she stands and with that, she whirls her great black cloak about her and for a moment she appears as a shadow and then is gone.

Wilwarin seeing the blade Esdra dropped, quickly snatches it up and cuts the bonds that hold the girl who appears to be about 14 or so. The girl is saying something Wilwarin doesn't understand, perhaps a foreign tongue, but she stops abruptly as she catches sight of the dwarven man, an axe in each hand as he stands for a moment before the tent opening before two arrows fired by Mave strike him in the back. He roars in pain and doesn't stop rushing forward in Wilwarin and the girl's direction. The dwarf attacks with each axe his first feeble attack missing Wilwarin entirely, but his second axe catches her slightly in the side before she can dance away (-2 hit points).

Kade and Torvik advance upon the guard and each goes in for a strike, but as Kade moves forward he stumbles upon a rock embedded in the ground and falls to the ground, his sword slipping from his hand. Distracted by the fumble, Torvik too misses the guard who takes the opportunity to strike back at the dwarven commander but he hits only air, obviously none-to-skilled a warrior.

Another finds his way from the darkness, this time the short blonde-haired man the dwarf called Mek, his face red and burned, he blinks at the sight before him and runs in the direction of the dwarf towards the larger tent.

Thena charges the man from Lupre just as Bryne fires and her first arrow shot is off and she hits Thena in the lower right of her back (-4 hit points). Bryne's second shot is more accurate and hits the man between his breastplate and greaves. Bryne's shot causes the man to stagger back and he looses his balance and falls loosing the grip on his sword which falls beside him. Thena now stands over the man menacingly.

Vari fires off shots at the elven man but her aim is high and both miss and unfortunately both of Ruskin's knife throws are also misses.

Zedamande Elaemyre sees the battle could easily turn on their actions shouts, "Kill the archers!" before running like a missile himself towards Vari. Two of three remaining turn in Bryne's direction and start running full tilt, though both the man from Lupre and Thena lie between them and the Lady of Valshire. The grey-robed man begins gesturing and speaking in an unknown tongue.

Thunder rolls again and a cold rain begins to fall on the battlefield.

Winces at the arrow striking in her back.... but her mind is locked in the larger melee. Making a snap judgment against trying to take a prisoner in the Lupre-man, considering the evolving combat, she swings down on his prone form.

Niserie feels only the barest relief when the woman Esdra vanishes, knowing she could still possibly be anywhere. Be careful! Esdra may be hiding nearby! Nis calls out in Elven to the sword-wielding Elf rescuing the girl.

The strawberry blonde draws her bow preparing to fire at the axe-wielding Dwarf, but when the weather begins to intensify she knows powerful magic is afoot and she must stop it at all costs. Instead she fires at the grey robed man calling the power of the storm...

Rain begins to fall and water drips from Thena's furrowed brow and from her sword as she dispenses Tempus' judgment on the fallen man. His lips form a scream that has no sound as her hand of judgment delivers its wrath and his blood mixes with the pooling water as the man reaching for his weapon is suddenly stilled. Sightless eyes stare up at the storm above, both that in the sky and the storm of the crusader above him. His eyes fill with water that flows over his face like tears.

Torvik feels Durvan's sword surge with energy, almost as if his concern for Kade and his other charges has gripped the blade itself, as he strikes out at the remaining guard who is cut down without a sound, as Kade scrambles to recover his sword. The man with the spiked hammer splits away from the woman beside him and meets Torvik the hammer arching high before coming crashing downward but missing the dwarf as the growing muddier by the minute battlefield proves treacherous throwing his attack off.

The woman in the plated armor veers off for Thena and Bryne, too late to save her companion but not too late to strike out. However, when she tries to hit Thena, a crack of lightning flashes, perhaps Tempus' boon to his priestess, causing the entire battlefield to be lit with a flash of light perhaps blinding the woman as she her axe cuts only air.

His voice ringing out in battlesong, Zedamande darts at Vari, short sword raised as the young ranger attempts to fire before he reaches her. Vari, perhaps unnerved by the suddenly close-up opponent misjudges her shots, the first arrow flies high but past the elf and the second hangs in the bow string breaking the arrow and causing her bow to spin and fall from her grasp. But the elf too is momentarily blinded by the lightning strike and his sword misses the young ranger. He merely grins and readies himself for the next strike knowing one archer is disarmed.

Mave fires at the blond man but she too misses both shots and more troubling she hits one of the ropes holding the entrance side of the tent as the man enters the tent. After several moments the rope snaps and the entranceway collapses trapping those within inside, leaving only the exit Esdra cut as a path of escape.

Inside the tent, Wilwarin sees the blond man dagger in hand just as the tent behind him collapses sealing them all inside at least momentarily. As she speaks elven to the girl, she shakes her head and responds in a language Wilwarin doesn't understand. The dwarf takes this opportunity to strike out at the elven magus but misses perhaps distracted by the collapse, and the sudden appearance of his friend. Wilwarin sees her opening and cuts the dwarven man across the chest also giving his long beard a sudden trim. The blond man also sees an opening and thrust his dagger into her side, and begins giggling as he sees blood, "Gotcha bitch," he says between giggles.

Niserie sees the grey-robed man casting some sort of spell and aims in his direction, her first shot missing but the second hits true. She disrupts his spell and hits him in the right shoulder.

Ruskin not wanting to risk hitting his commander draws his dagger and moves to try and flank the man wielding the spiked hammer.

Two more men manage to find their way out of the Darkness spell. One the redhead with the pipe, the other one of the dark haired men. Both are armed with short sword and have but a moment to take in the battle before moving to enter the fray. The plated woman calls out, "ASSIST ME!"

Thunder roars and lightning strikes again, this time farther away.
