We are agreed that Gerolt can gift the drake head to the local baron? It's a part of the plan for the outpost, and local village area.

Absolutely.

Rex, do we have any hint of how many suits of armour we might get from the thing?

If it's only one and Turnip is only ever going to wear minimal armour then it might make sense for her to have it.

Depends on the size of the individual and exactly what you want made. The dwarves and Turnip will require less material. Are you going to have them try and make kurbal cuirass and helm, simple leather tunic, leather scale on simple leather. All factors. All that said I think you could probably get enough for 2 of the smaller individuals at least and maybe 1 smaller and 1 full size. No matter what there will be trimmings left over for small items (pouches, arm bands etc).

Harnic Kurbal https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boiled_leather

Leather scales, most likely hardened like Kurbal on leather backing https://www.metmuseum.org/art/collection/search/26565

To be honest I'm not sure of the best armour choices due to my lack of understanding of the Harnmaster system.

Which is a reason for me to go and read up to learn more.

By the book

Simple Leather is Blunt 2, Edge 4, Point 3, Fire/Frost 3 weight is 0.8 lbs for skull area
Kurbal is Blunt 4, Edge 4, Point 3, Fire/frost 3 weight is 1.0 lbs for the skull area

No leather scale on leather listed but it would start as leather plus something for the scales. Maybe half Kurbal for the scales that would give us:
Hardened Leather Scale on Leather backing Blunt 4, Edge 6, Point 5, Fire/Frost 5 weight 1.3 for skull area

I'm not sure of the group dynamic yet, but Gerolt is happy with others getting better armor. He'd probably cover the cost of the mule, since the drake head is on it as well. While his plan is to help the group, he's honest enough to admit that it helps him, too.

For leftovers, keep in mind that vambraces, or a sword sheath of drake hide, would look awesome. Style points. :)

Well Algrim likes to use his crossbow when able to and doesn't like to charge into melee. Even though I think Rex said he is the best melee stat character?

Arngeir is melee, but I'm guessing that Ivinians prefer lighter armour, rather than the kind of heavier stuff Knights wear.

Technology wise for arms and armor Harn is sort of 1000-1200 AD. Mail and scale are the dominate armors for knights. Plate is used primarily for helms, vambraces and greaves. Breastplates are rare and only used by the wealthiest of knights. Shields are still your best protection and everyone uses one if at all possible. Two-handed weapons exist but are not common and unless you are in very heavy armor generally a bad idea.

The Khuzdul are ahead of everyone else in technology and their soldiers/warriors are the most feared on Harn, primarily due to their training (they consider it a profession and most will have 100+ years experience). Their training combined with technology make them formidable. The Khuzdul High Guard is the only super-heavy armored units on Harn. They wear a full mail hauberk with metal scales wired directly to the mail over the shoulders, thorax and abdomen. Then add mail chausses, plate helms, vambraces, and greaves. They can get away with it due to a combination of things. Higher natural Strength, Stamina, and Will than humans combined with extensive training (Increases Endurance) and smaller size means their armor actually weights less than the same armor for a average human.

For an Ivinian huscarls (their elite warriors) mail and plate helm, as much coverage as they can afford. About the same as the average knight.

Remember that armor is not only very expensive but it is a status symbol and highly controlled in the feudal kingdoms. But metal armor is also heavy and hot. It's real disadvantage historically was over heating and exhaustion.

I had a quick read through the armour pages last night and have a better understanding of how the different areas work and how it stacks.

So one possibly might be to improve some of Arngeirs weaker armour areas, his legs and arms which maybe could be done with smaller offcuts.

Good idea.

Here is a good site to look at for some viking themed ideas. The main site covers all sorts of eras.

Thanks, nice site.

I'm thinking vambraces and leggings, which would improve his weaknesses.

Of course leggings would need more leather.

He orders pottage and bread/cheese and the beer that comes with them. When finished, he'll head out to the stables to fetch and outfit Lucy for the trip.
Awesome!

Ha! Thanks. Little by little, I'm trying to get my head wrapped around Volin. I still don't understand all of the things he can do. I'm guessing he may need to put some to task on this trip. Also, how much coin does he have? I can't seem to find that on his sheet.

The sheet only has weapons and armor for equipment. The rest we were listing in the individual character threads. I will look and figure it out, he would have some to start with so if it didn't get listed it was an oversight on my part. I had him in the area to gather some herbal alchemical supplies that don't grow in the mountains of Azadmere (where he is from).
