I am awarding every PC one XP for completing a search of an entire hex. I am also awarding every PC 1 XP for finding one of the seven shrines.

This was a quest that the other party on RPG.net undertook but we'll assume it was offered to you as well.

Visant taps his finger on his chin as he thinks. "I did some research for the King's army when they first arrived and began clearing farmland across the river. One of the things I discovered is that there were seven shrines dedicated to seven old gods in the region to the west."

He pauses again, thinking, and then continues. "Whenever you find one of these shrines, I want you to return to me and share what you've learned. Where are they? What sort of gods are they dedicated to? Do they... do anything if you leave an offering?"

With 2 XP, you all can advance to 2nd level.

You get another focus, you get 3 skill points but they are spent at increasing cost (not like 1st level). If you have an Attribute near 14, you can spend skill points to bump it.

Skills are still capped at Skill-1, except for the special Level 2 loophole:
If the
Focus is taken as part of advancement, however, it instead
counts as three skill points spent toward increasing the
skill. This is enough to raise a nonexistent skill to level-1,
or boost a level-1 skill to level-2. They may do this even
if they aren’t high-enough level to normally qualify for a
skill level that high.
If you take a focus, and the focus grants a skill that you already have at Skill-1, it is allowed to go up to Skill-2 a level early.

...plus hit points and stuff for your classes.

Thanks

I will use my focus to get Heal to level 2.

Do I still get the 3 skill points if I take the focus?

Anyone know what a 2nd level healer/warrior gets? I can't seem to find my rules PDF.

I took Armsmaster-1 for Laavin. That bumps her Stab skill to 2, lets her draw an unreadied weapon for free, and adds +2 (her Stab skill) to all stab hits and Shock. She also gained 4 HP and a point of BAB.

.
Your BaB goes from +1 to +2
You roll 2d6+4 hp.
You get 3 skill points.
You get a focus (I will try to answer more tomorrow)
And you get to pick one more Healer Art.
Hit points aren't additive, they are re-rolled each level. If your total was less than last level you just take +1 on last levels total. So, roll [2d6+4] as a second level mage/warrior.

Here's my notes for Gars:
Level 2 Mage/Warrior
Hit Die: 2d6+4 (+4 Die Hard)
BaB: +2
Focus: +1 Any

Level 2 HP [2d6+8]=7+8=15
That's higher than his previous total of 10, so his total is now 15.

3 skill points: raise Know from 0 to 1 (2pts), get Survive 0 (1pt)
He is learning more, and with Survive he no longer is a massive penalty to the group. This adds one language he was studying in his downtime. So we will pick Equus to round out his archeological-scholar angle as he studied his texts.

Pick one Focus:
Armsmaster
You have an unusual competence with thrown weapons and melee attacks. This Focus’ benefits do not apply to unarmed attacks or non-thrown projectile weapons. This Focus’ bonuses also don’t stack with Deadeye or other Foci that add a skill’s level to your damage or Shock.
Level 1: Gain Stab as a bonus skill. You can Ready a Stowed melee or thrown weapon as an Instant action. You may add your Stab skill level to a melee
or thrown weapon’s damage roll or Shock damage, assuming it has any to begin with.
Level 2: The Shock from your melee attacks always treats the target as if they have AC 10. Gain a +1 bonus to hit with all thrown or melee attacks.
As an Accursed, he has a special benefit of applying the martial skill point to his Magic skill instead. So he gets Magic-2.

Choose one Accursed art:
Night-Black Eyes: You can see clearly in perfect darkness. As a Main Action, focus on a particular visible object, person, or location; you can tell if it is enchanted, though no details about the magic are seen.".

The new Focus rule works like this:
If you take a level in a new Focus AND it grants you a skill you don't have, you get it at level 1, not level 0. Because it's the equivalent of getting three skill points, you can spend 1 skill point to get Skill-0 and the other 2 skill points to raise it to Skill-1.

If you take a level in a new Focus AND it grants you a skill you already have at level 0, you can spend 2 skill points to get Skill-1 and save the third skill point for the next time you level up.

If you take a level in a new Focus AND it grants you a skill you already have at level 1, you can spend 3 skill points to get Skill-2.

Choosing a new Focus, or leveling an existing Focus from 1 to 2, is separate from spending skill points on Skills.

You can't use your Focus to add points to a skill level unless the Focus you choose happens to come with a free skill. For example, if you chose Gifted Chirurgeon, Poisoner, or Polymath as your new Focus, it comes with Heal as a bonus skill. You would then get 3 skill points that can only be used to raise your Heal skill.

You'd still also have 3 skill points to spend on any skill.

Focus Specialist to level 2 for Healing
3 skill points to increase Healing to level 2 (since Specialist grants Heal I think this is allowed).

hp [2d6+4]=9+4=13

Taking Facile Healer for my Healer art.

Level 1 of Specialist grants you any skill. Level 2 of Specialist does not grant you any skills or skill points.

Don't assume that taking a Focus means you also get 3 more skill points. It's only when you take a new Focus at Level 1, and it grants a bonus skill, that you can think of it as granting you 3 skill points in that skill.

If you were already at Heal-1, you can use the 3 skill points you get for leveling up from 1 to 2 to move to Heal-2.

Can all of you spell out the improvements you're making to your PC in the Player Characters thread? It's easier for me to track it there.

It's very helpful to see the level by level progression instead of having just the final numbers. Even more helpful when the PC is a multi-classed Adventurer.

So you already have Specialist: Heal level 1 and already got the point of Heal skill for it. Taking Specialist level 2 doesn't give a skill point.

"if you chose Gifted Chirurgeon, Poisoner, or Polymath as your new Focus, it comes with Heal as a bonus skill."
...one of these gives you the Heal skill points that allow you to reach Heal-2 skill.

That's the choice - roll 4d6 for Heal with Specialist level 2 and Heal-1 skill, or take one of the other Foci, gain a different ability, and roll 3d6 with a Heal-2 skill.
