The Time and The Place
Re: The Time and The Place
Kar rouses himself to the sound of "breakfast is now served" alert. Working largely on auto pilot he showers and dresses, heading towards the delightful aroma of Eno's cooking. Before filling his plate he greets Raid Leader Raven and Tiv and passes an eye over Sigbjorn and smiles in greeting.
Well met. I have some knowledge of your career Sigbjorn. I believe you assisted in some upgrades for our 'Serpent. I thank you for your work. Would like to continue working, we could invite you to sign on, if the senior officers are in agreement and you are willing and able.
Seeing Eno already bringing him a a bowl of honeyed porridge with sides of bread and eggs, Kar takes a seat at the table.
Let's eat and then talk more

Now, now I remember something. The gods are talking to me. the eyes of Sigbjørn seem like void for a moment.
I'd run for a pilot, a starship pilot. I do not only fly fighters. Fly starship and astrogation are my specialties now. I would join you, if there's a vacant position. Of course, if you need a spirit guide I could assist, but...
Sigbjørn take out one his rune and stare at it, waiting a sign of the gods.

Re: The Time and The Place
The Mead Hall seems spacious, with only the handful of Oghman senior crew, and the ever-attentive Eno, present.
Eno greets Sigbjørn with a bow:
Welcome to Cunning Serpent, honoured guest.
Glancing toward the port side of the forward bulkhead, where there are several casks waiting, she asks: What is your preferred refreshment?
A cold beer is soon in his hand.
As she serves Raven Eno quietly informs her:
Hróarr returned two hours ago, in a Blackrock personal transport. There was a Tyrian escort, he bid me say to you “Frau Doktor thanks Raid Leader Sorrow for her cooperation. She finds the first specimen entirely satisfactory, and hopes that further examinations will establish the bond between our peoples.”
Will you allow the warriors to recover their strength, or should I prepare for their immanent arrival?

Re: The Time and The Place
After half an hour of painfully wriggling himself back under the decking, this time plus comms unit, ten minutes of soldering, and then 35 more minutes to get out without aggravating his wounds, Remington finishes his impromptu shielding. Next time they strip the engineering section for inspection someone will definitely be addressing him as "the asshole who decided to do this", but given Oghmen's general view on technical matters he figures there's a good chance he's long dead by then.
After extracting himself from the sub-deck, he quickly wipes his face and hands, getting enough of the grease off that he's comfortable eating. He slips back into his habitual vacc suit, makes his way to the mead hall, and quietly piles his plate with as much of the morning's protein supply as Eno will let him get away with. As usual, he's close enough to the senior crew to be within easy yelling distance, but far enough to imply that he's not a part of the conversation. He certainly isn't going to be the one to broach the topic of his comm etiquette.

As the parts he ordered for the security disk just arrived, he tucks them under one arm. He heads down to engineering to grab a toolkit and bumps into Remington a grumpy Remington heading out to go get cleaned up. Retrieving the toolkit, he proceeds to breakfast where he absently takes whatever Eno puts on his plate and hurriedly sits to eat…and work on the parts installation. He takes a large portion of table space for his food, tools, parts and disk.
After making some progress and noticing a break in the conversation he speaks:
Remington Shaman Many-Names ... you are getting awful mouthy. Perhaps you should get some sleep, or get laid, or both before you end up suspended on the front of the APC..or worse. There is worse that can be done to you. I’d rather have you around. Don’t force us to deal harshly with you.
When you’re not running your mouth, you sometimes show your are becoming downright Oghman. Maybe you should find one of the Shield Maidens to partner up with and become a citizen. Or at least have a romping good time with. Either way, you’ll be happier!

Grenade Launcher Installation
+2 Int/Edu & +1 Engineering (Take your pick)
The Security Disk should now have a snub pistol and can bombard with two grenades...we can load both weapons with can nap

Fast and efficient. Þórir produces some inert practice-rounds and Tiv satisfies himself that the mechanism is functioning as intended.
I'd have called for Mechanic before using Engineer to avoid an "unskilled" penalty, not that it matters

Re: The Time and The Place
Raven nods either her acknowledgement or thanks and reaches for the mead she's taking with her cooked meats and eggs. She adds "Let my young wolves lie a while Eno - they may need their strength today".The Bindoner wrote: ↑Thu Jun 01, 2023 9:30 pm As she serves Raven Eno quietly informs her:

At breakfast Raven absently speaks to Remington as she sips restorative(?) mead. She doesn't actually "adddress" him just speaks loud enough for him to hear "I had þefa* track you to Engineering - I assume you were dealing with a... perturbation... of the drive spirits? Always keep your comm with you when on watch. It can effect your ability to perform your duties". She allows "Not as much as being nailed to some flotsam and set adrift for Rán to claim. That would obviously have a greater effect but for now I still claim you - as my Shaman. So Rán must wait".Gorethirster wrote: ↑Thu Jun 01, 2023 9:44 pm He certainly isn't going to be the one to broach the topic of his comm etiquette.
She then oddly changes her subject stating "The new crewman was a Prestr before he became a pilot but you are a Seer and the two are not the same thing - so your duties remain the same".

While Sigbjørn is drinking his beer and listening to the people and their businesses, his left arm suddenly has seizures and it stops just below the face, blocked in a position of the horns gesture.
Ehm... I think my batteries are low in charge. he points at his combat arm with a smile.

Raven brightens enough for a rueful smile (or maybe the mead/protein hangover cure has taken effect). She nods at Sigbjørn's arm "So, are you a follower of Tyr then Prestr Sigbjørn?" She follows up bluntly but amicably with "The Serpent knows you - you must tell me why she remembers you".Ecthelion wrote: ↑Fri Jun 02, 2023 3:02 pm While Sigbjørn is drinking his beer and listening to the people and their businesses, his left arm suddenly has seizures and it stops just below the face, blocked in a position of the horns gesture.

Raid Leader, it is a simple answer. All the starships know me. I met yours twice, for the... Cough... Launchers, and for a overhaul. I could say that not only the Ásgeirr ships remember me. Like the gods, all of them talk to me, but only when I fly and when I study the maps.Tiglath wrote: ↑Fri Jun 02, 2023 3:14 pm

Raven replies with an obscure smile "Not everything is shown on maps". Then a suddenly animated Raven leads Sigbjørn from the dining area into the wood panelled ship's corridors which are decorated with an eclectic mix of Oghman runework, carvings and art. She talks excitedly “The Serpent is old and sometimes forgets her memories but they are all here - not on your maps but here in the Serpents “mind”. She remembers where she has flown. It is here in the artwork! You know ships so you will help me see the routes that the Serpent has forgotten and we will raid further than any other Oghman vessel”.Ecthelion wrote: ↑Fri Jun 02, 2023 5:04 pm Raid Leader, it is a simple answer. Raven shows her teeth in a wolfish smile and there is a dangerous gleam in her rather unsettling black irised eyes as she turns to Sigbjørn to declare “This is the proof – we are the heirs of the Dragon!”
(OOC: Sigbjørn will know that the Serpent and nearly all other Oghman ships can only travel one Jump (one hex on the starmap) with the capacity of their drives. However it is rumoured that secret routes exist known only to a few ship's Captains and select Raiders which would allow travel to planets beyond the usual raider's range e.g. two hexes to reach Thebus and Torpol on the starmap).

You are scaring me. We should come back in the common area I think. There you can explain to ALL your crew what are you talking about. The maps I mentioned are not only there, but also here. Re: The Time and The Place
Having absently eaten and Ops tested tye security disk, Tiv says to those officers at early breakfast:
We have a long and probably bloody day ahead of us. We should make a visit to Medusa to obtain our catnip…
Eno, a cup of caffeine to go please. And he sends a message to Medusa asking what time is best for a visit. He CCs Ummimiir and Soraia.
He then sends another to Ummimiir and Soraia.
Remember that robot thing you provided to me last night? Might I order another? Charge it to our general ship account.
He’s trying to convey that he wants to buy another a hangar access code.

Re: The Time and The Place
Raven replies levelly "I don't think men of faith scare so easily. The crew know my plans - I shared them in the mead hall last night". Then she relents "I am a poor host and have disrupted your breakfast. Let us return to the dining hall as you wish". Once there Raven rests one booted foot on a bench and addresses all present "I have been discussing raids far and wide with our new crewman. I'm not sure if he believes that I mean to raid the Sindalian Main but I trust in the will of the gods and with a priest at the helm I say our course will be sure!" She claps Sigbjørn heartily on the shoulder and says "Prestr Sigbjørn Sigmarrson please finish your meal. I have a warband to rouse and many hangovers to slay before we can begin the day's work. We have much business to complete here on Blackrock before we can even consider raiding again".Ecthelion wrote: ↑Sat Jun 03, 2023 8:10 pm You are scaring me. Sigbjørn tap the temples and shows the void in his eyes shaking for some second.
She feeds a massive wolfhound her breakfast scraps and again addresses Sigbjørn "Come and train with the warband if you wish it. Otherwise Tiv can explain matters aboard while I train" she snags another piece of crisp bacon and gives a small smile as she adds the admontion "but don't lend your ears to any of his faithless heretical babble".
She fires what might be a question at Tiv "We saw the Aslan opening their doors by sensors - I presume they have to be alive to do it?"

Raid Leader, you are telling me, in front of your crew and vowing an oath on your blood, that you and your wolf pack are willing to make the big jump in the Sindalian main? And why do you think I am the owl that will guide you in the unknown?
The stars themselves once lived and died at our command, yet you still dare to oppose our will.
Re: The Time and The Place
Raven goes very still and holds Sigbjørn's gaze "Sigbjørn Sigmarrson, I avoid blood oaths unless they are necessary but I have faith and I do what I say I will do. I, Raven Sorrow, Raid Leader of the Ásgeirr clan's Cunning Serpent plan to not only leap to the Sindalian Main but to raid it and return home. That is my plan and my young wolves follow where I lead. It will come to pass because I am favoured by the gods. Indeed, just in time a priest comes aboard who, strong in his faith, can steer us a true course through Rán's realm. The All Father moves the pieces on the hnefatafl board but he pays most attention to those he finds interesting. Why would he not send me an owl when I have need of one?"
OOC: Sigbjørn's aware that Raven surely seems to have all the confidence required in a Raid Leader (seemingly almost verging on the fanatic) but her reputation despite all the "theatre" is based on ruthless success. Jarl Hallstein doesn't give significant command posts on his raiding ships to folk with flawed judgement.
Re: The Time and The Place
Yes, agreed. And I believe the Aslan must be semi-conscious as well.
I hate leaving anything to chance. Assuming our main force is invited into the main hangar, I was thinking of having the security disk (shall we call her “Rover”) and the weapons laden janitors in proximity to us. It will look as though the station anticipates some cleanup.
What do you think of having reserve raiders enter the perimeter of the hangar complex by having the ship repair bot open the main reception room door. He’ll need another set of cloned access codes. That secondary action begins once main hangar fighting begins.
Once the perimeter is secured, the repair bot can become the operator of the airlocks leading to the main hangar…independent of the biometric system.
I’ve asked Ummiimir for another set of clone access codes. This will be expensive, but I hate leaving any plan to chance!
Thoughts??
