OOC II
Re: OOC II
Welcome aboard Leitz!
Re: OOC II
I'm reading "In Search of a Body"; I can hear the language you all are using, and I can see Turnip hyperventilating while everyone was digging up the body. You've set a high standard to meet!
Re: OOC II

Arngeir's accent does vary a bit, despite my best efforts.
Re: OOC II
Oddly enough, I just rescued several chisels from rust. Just soak them in vinegar overnight. If the chains or whatever are rusted, you could cover it with cloth, drip on vinegar, and keep refreshing the vinegar every couple of hours. If you start at the top, the vinegar that drips down will start cleaning whatever is below.
Soldiers probably use vinegar to clean off rust from armor found on the field, or taking from bandits.

Re: OOC II
Hmmm, drake acid. Might be nothing left after.

The chains are rusted all the way through. Not recoverable. but on surface rust vinegar will do wonders. Not for this game obviously but coca-cola works even better, LOL.

Re: OOC II
If the outpost becomes known about we might need the kings help to keep it.
Re: OOC II
I can see the king wanting some kind of fealty from us.
Arngeir might consider some kind of fealty to Kjal Forsetha.
All good stuff.

Re: OOC II
Very true. The great thing about the situation is you have several different routes you can go. The king is a good one and certainly in a situation where it benefits him to have loyal subjects in control of the outpost. The key is of course proving you would be loyal subjects and how you intend to utilize it that benefits him.
It really isn't a great fortress versus a large well prepared force as it would be easy to lay siege to. But, it is well hidden and secure against anyone not prepared to deal with it.

Re: OOC II
Welcome Leitz! I just joined as well.
As for the new information on Chybisa, what does my character know? I'm trying to create a background (for myself mostly) and Harn is so vast, I'm having trouble wrapping my brain around it. I need to get my bearings

I guess I'm lucky playing the ignorant northman abroad

Re: OOC II
Since we have some new players. I recommend reading/re-reading the first post of the following thread and any new posts as well. I will get a new post up there as well with some skill maintenance points (SMP) for everyone. Note that I started awarding SMPs in that thread then switched to the regular threads for some horrible reason. That was a very bad idea on my part as it makes it difficult to keep track of. Sorry about that, still learning how to manage a PBP game as a DM. Thus some of this may be a double reward, don't worry about that, take it as a bonus for my screw up. Please make sure you are subscribed since this is really the equivalent of HarnMaster xp and I don't want anyone to miss out.

Re: OOC II
I'm not sure if Gerlot has gotten anything, I didn't see him on the thread.
Re: OOC II
Volin is a very young dwarf. He should be in his late 20's, no older than 30. For some reason we didn't do his age but by the book it would be 14+7(for Mage)+5(for Clansman)+or - a year or 2 (the rules are vague on starting age). So say 26 to 30. Keep in mind that dwarves live to 250+, occasionally to 350+. They are considered in their prime from 50 to 200 years old.
Everyone knows the info I have posted for Chybisa. You would pick it up spending time there pretty quickly and I intentionally left out details such as names and most dates. There is a lot more details in the Harn articles I have. I am going to post some very rough population numbers to give some scale, just use them for that and not thinking it is exact or a census number. They will be very rough (maybe even fudged a little).
I can help with your backstory later today/tonight if you want.

Re: OOC II
He just arrived between the Gargun fight and Drake battle. Very new. This will be his first award.
Volin arrived after the Drake fight, even newer. It is his first award.
See here for some good info on Gargun, they are the racial enemies of the Khuzdul (Dwarves) but a serious threat to anyone.

Sounds good to me Leitz.

Re: OOC II
If I understand correctly, Chysbia isn't over populated. It sounds like the king of Chysbia is a decent sort, and Gerlot is a minor Chysbian noble and a knight of Larani. Gerlot's parents also have some status, and Gerlot's contacts are all potential allies in the quest for the outpost. Rex, can you tell me more about the contacts?
To the group, what do you think about making political choices? For example, in reading the fight with the drake, everyone did their part. Even Turnip, the Strength 5 lass who is fast on her feet, helped in the fight and was ready to dash in to help more. Maybe we spend some money on a bard, to tell the tale well. That may impact not only our popularity, but it will open doors that might help move things forward. Of course, there's always the darker side, others will try to take advantage of us, and treasure seekers will probably march into the area. The advantage we have is that it's a feudal society that's underpopulated. Fewer people to go into the woods, and if we can get the king's support then we may even get support for isolating the area.
Darcen is the ruined village, right? That means some buildings, and arable farmland. If dwarves want to go to the outpost, they aren't really farmers. If Darcen could rebuild, at least a little, and feed people, it could act as a trade hub for the hill area. Think about the American frontier, and the trading posts and inns out in the wild.
There is a Larani Fighting Order chapter house in Burzyn, I think. Always good to know where the knights are.
What other sources of influence do we have?

Re: OOC II
You are correct on your thoughts of the situation..
The contacts for both Gerolt and Volin are only rough sketched. I normally let the players fill in details as we play based on the random rolls they made. I help with added details they may want. Family names in the occupation/area for example. Feel free to look over what was rolled and throw out any ideas you want. They players actually choose there best friend from the ones rolled so you can move that to another one if you want, just switch the loyalty and associated name (friend etc) with the best friend you currently have. Gerolts are the most usable of the groups since his are all local.

Re: OOC II
I downloaded the Harn Character Sheet for Volin (the one attached to the thread); added his Age; may tweak it a bit more, but I really don't know what to do exactly; I'm pretty cool with how it is.
