Dungeon Training
Disturbed Floor Room

Wow, I rolled you the best score you could possibly get. Why cant I do that for my characters?

Ceiling is at about 8 feet high.

Taking the time to utilize not only his thieving skills, but his lifetime of dwarven instincts, Grimm realizes the gist of this situation long before the others can sort it out.

He deduces that the irregular floor in the room above is actually the trigger point for this trapped hallway below, guessing there is a pressure plate or something similar directly under the uneven ceiling down this 20' narrow hallway.

Actions?

Wes

"Now why would that be?" ponders Wes, once Grimm relays the information. "Why have a trigger for a trap in a tunnel that the person who triggers it, likely wouldn't even know was there?"

"Could it be a trap within a trap? We go back up to trigger the trap to allow us safe passage down here. Then set off a second trap up there. A block falling on our heads or something".

Wes looks around at their cramped surroundings in the pit. "Also, if this trap is a gas, or something that explodes, we're going to be in big bloody trouble down here." He turns to Grimm. "You're the expert. What do you think? Try to disarm it down here, or up there? Either way, I'm standing well clear of it." Then he stands silent for a moment. "Of course, Obad Hai has taught me often enough here not to listen to my own big mouth. I've almost gotten myself killed plenty of times. Who would like to be the first to point out what I'm missing?" He smiles.

Grimm

The dwarf falls silent and thinks seriously about the matter for a couple seconds. "I think the best course of action would be to trigger the trap from up there. In case it's a gas or an explotion, like you say, it's better if we all wait in the room. I'm not staying down here to see the effects.

And even then, we should look for a way to safely trigger the trap. We take our distance and maybe put something heavy on the pressure plate on the uneven floor above. But what could we use?"

Luther
Luther speaks slowly, trying his best to be understood. NO. If there is treasure down here, we trigger the trap up there and seal the tunnel- and can't get the treasure.

Amun

"I don't want to take any risks here. Survival is our first priority, treasure is nice, but I'd rather live poor that die rich. But by all means, let's search the tunnel first. As for heavy things, we do have the door. Or we could always ask the giant in the first room if he could lend us something." she says and grins.

Dungeon Training
Disturbed Floor Room

After a bit of back and forth with his friends, indecision seems to win out.

Grimm eventually shoos everyone from the pit just before he tosses a chunk of debris out into the center of the lower tunnel. When the rubble contacts the hallway floor, the ceiling of the tunnel, which is also the floor of the room above, suddenly collapses, filling the hallway with dusty debris, while also opening up a rough stairway in the center of the room above that leads back down towards the end of the tunnel below, right before it makes its right turn.

After the dust settles a little bit, this is what the group sees.

I hope this makes sense to everyone. It plays out much better in my head than it does on the 2D map.

Amun seems startled.

"What was even the meaning of that trap? Or was it a trap? Anyway, I suggest we just carry on. Last time I took the lead I immediately fell down a hole, so maybe Grimm, you can check these floor tiles ahead? I'll be right behind you if anything comes at you."

If Grimm agrees to take the lead, Amun will enter the corridor second.

Grimm

"Well, it's obvious to me that the next room was a dead end and the only way forward is through the tunnel below it, which would've crushed us if we would've simply gone forward. Now we can go to the next room and then downstairs and advance through the tunnel. Yes let me go first and check for traps and and uneven places on the ground and walls." He continues using the torch to see and the spear to prod before him. He will even check the steps of that stair, then the floor tiles etc.

Before turning the corner, he will also stop and listen.

Wes

Wes nods approvingly at Amun's wisdom. "That's worth bearing in mind. It's possible treasure will be used as bait somewhere along the way. We mustn't get greedy".

He shines his lantern up on to the ceiling to look for any lurking surprises. Then Wes reaches into his beltpouch. "Would you like a mirror to look around that corner?". He proffers one Grimm.

Grimm

"Oh, that's a good idea, tanks! Just hold the light for me, will'ya?

Elnaerel

Follows the group. This time she remains her position at the rear.

Luther
For a guy without real facial features, Luther looks very embarrassed.
Glad I was wrong. He moves toward the front of the group, intending to follow the scout.

I know CP is under the weather after Garycon, so I will continue along here without Chauncey until I can find a suitable spot to eliminate NPC him. :?

Dungeon Training
Disturbed Floor Room

After figuring out the absolute diabolical nature of the trap they just sprung, Wes looks around for more threats in the room, finding none.

Grimm seems to have this all figured out, hoping back out of the pit and leading the party into the upper room, where he deftly trots down the makeshift stairway left in the fallen rubble.

Once he gets to the corner of the lower hallway again, Wes offers up a mirror the dwarf can use. As Amun warns the group to be wary of the possibility of more deadly distractions up ahead, Grimm takes a peek around the next corner, unable to believe what he sees at the end of the next hallway.

Okay, okay, I confess. I took a peek behind OM's screen while he was away at Garycon

Grimm's eyes go wide. He starts to mumble something, then stops. Then takes breathes deeply.

"Ah... I don't know how to say this but, but... The-the-there's a huge treasure around the corner."

Elnaerel

"A huge treasure you say. Here? Just like that? Come on, Grimm, that can't be true...

Maybe is an illusion like the monster back there? The one that almost turned me into a crisp. Try not to believe everything you see here, Grimm. There's traps here of every nature..."

Amun squints and makes some strange noises, finally speaking up.

"It can't be true. Question is, what do we do? We need to get past any which way, and we'll trigger any trap while doing so. I say we throw something at it first to see what happens."

"I agree," says Wes. "Either not real, or there's something hiding somewhere around here waiting to surprise us while we stare at that all that stuff."

"Throwing something sounds good. How about a chunk of that rubble back there?"

"Can you do that for me?" days the dwarf while he holds a spear in one hand and a mirror in the other.

Wes carries the lantern.

Amun

"Yes, let me get one."

She gets a fist sized rock and throws it, aiming in the middle of the pile.
