General Chatter
Re: General Chatter
Sounds good to me.

On the other hand, if you want to understand what Crawford was thinking, you can just ask him!

Re: General Chatter
Good deal.
Gars is the only one NOT skilled at wilderness survival, so I figure he is the one to overprepare. With 180sp he ends up with the same kit-out (minus a dagger), ends up back with one coin left, but has a mule and the full Survival bundle to carry it.

Re: General Chatter
Good read. Seems to follow the keep it simple rule, which I prefer.

OK, I'm ready to go.

Re: General Chatter
I am going to see John Wick 4 tonight. Will update tomorrow.
Re: General Chatter
Enjoy!
Re: General Chatter
Should I assume you are aiming to travel directly through the intervening hexes to get to the swamp? Or are you going to explore each of them in turn, as per p. 50 ("to lightly explore a standard six-mile hex for points of interest takes a full day of scouting")?
Re: General Chatter
Huh. Good question!
I assume we are crossing the farmland quickly.
There's then three hexes in our path to the swamp hex. The straight-shot to town back from the swamp is 2.5 hexes (but no need to search them) or closer to get to a Fort. We have one week of food with us.
...I suggest we search the three hexes over three days.
Thoughts?

Re: General Chatter
I am OK with that, but we need to keep track of time and rations as it doesn't leave us much time at the swamp. Even if we can get back to the first fort in a day it only leaves us 3 days worth of rations at the swamp and I assume 1 of those days will be exploring the hex.
Re: General Chatter
There are rules for foraging food, water, and firewood as well, so depending how fast we want to move we may be able to linger longer in the swamp.
I vote for moving quickly through the farmland (it's less likely to hold anything interesting, and crowded with people who will likely to find anything interesting before us anyway), then search the wilderness hexes on our way up to the swamp.

Re: General Chatter
The three hexes closest to Ket are called The Farms and they are considered civilized hexes. Nothing there but farms, nothing to search.
Re: General Chatter
Since Mikhail is a hunter by trade, and skilled in survival, I'm going to plan on him foraging edible plants and/or bagging small game to supplement the rations.

Re: General Chatter
A good plan. Ciarra is a wanderer with Survive as well so she will be doing the same. The group has several individuals with Survive so that should be helpful.
Re: General Chatter
I think everyone but Gars has at least Survive-0, so we should be pretty good at foraging food and making camp.

Re: General Chatter
This is all good, just factor in that you need to spend at least a half day to forage for food. At least in these areas you're about to explore, water and firewood will be easy to gather as you move normally.
Exceptions:
Swamp areas will require foraging for firewood/lean-to wood and drinking the water found there may require a check to avoid disease.
Mountain areas will require foraging for firewood/lean-to wood and may require foraging for water.

Another reminder that it's difficult for me to determine the choices the party is making if PCs don't actually choose.cybersavant wrote: ↑Wed Mar 29, 2023 5:32 am Kaithar listens to the group chatter, but offers no opinion or other option. He checks his gear as they talk, then looks around the area to see who else is about.
As a general rule, I really don't like posts where the PC does nothing to move the action along. This is especially important in sandbox games where there is no railroad and player choice is what keeps the game active.
Again, I apologize for singling out an individual's post. I'm not upset with you cyber. I just want to establish a rule that requires players to vote when party votes come up.
Re: General Chatter
Ok, judging from the Encumbrance thread, it looks like only two of you decided to buy the Wilderness Travel Gear bundle. That is my single source of truth.
