What would YOU like to play or run? (Interest Catch-all)

Alan Bahr (of Gallant Knight Games) has released an alpha of a new game on the GKG Patreon. It's called Shadows of a Dying Sun and hews closely to its inspirational material (including the aforementioned classic literature, and art by Perplexing Ruins). Here is an image of the cover.

The game is focused on resource management in an end-of-all-times sciencefantasy setting. There is a d20-roll-under-attribute mechanism, which tells you to mark off a resource when you fail. Most of the game play is in choosing what resources to attrite and recover.

There are ten very weird traditions of magic, standard fantasy equipment, and an inchoate world that can be formed collaboratively. The magic is ... potent.

I would like to run this for a few people.

Here is a sample character sheet, from a quick solo game I ran:

Here is a part of a climactic spellcasters battle:

I'm definitely into the genre, and love that cover! And I've given Alan Bahr plenty of money in the past year or two.

The checking and unchecking of boxes seems fiddly for US's forum, but an external speadsheet or form could make that much easier to keep updated.

The schedule would be build characters and intro setting in November, play from 1 Dec to 31 Jan, and then hard stop 1 Feb. Two DM 'move action forward' posts a week, usually Sunday night and Thursday AM (DM timezone). This year's topic is Cepheus Engine/Traveller combat, where the players are a special operations team on a hostage rescue mission. I have some ideas I want to play-test, so players need a basic understanding of CE/Traveller (most any 2d6 version) and a willingness to give honest critique.

For those who haven't had the misfortune to be in one of my games before, I do not allow Player vs Player, you're expected to be the "good guys" (in a non-gender specific sense), and long story based posts tend to give you an advantage. For example:

Imperial Gambit
The Unknown Darkness
sounds interestng

Anyone else? Chargen will be mostly by choice, based on team member position. Need a few players so that there's at least one of each "type" of character on the team. Multiple teams could run, if we made the scenario bigger.

Also, looking at the Scenario Simulator, and may include that.

Does this look interesting? I'm hoping to start a Maze Rats* game in the setting that inspired this. Where a look-alike of the big critters (Trolls) once was worshipped as a god. And a lot of people want it to come back and eat all the wrongdoers.

# Maze Rats, Plus
No separate initiative system. GM characters declare their actions and make their attack rolls (regardless what the action might be). Player characters make their attack rolls (regardless of what they might do) and then declare their actions. Declared actions are resolved in descending order of attack rolls. This overall gives tactical advantage to the players.

# Maze Rats, Plus Two
If you have any unbound spell slots, then each night you dream a single new spell. When you wake up, you can "bind" that new spell to a spell slot. If all of your spell slots are bound, you can't dream any new spells. Bound spells can be cast once per day until they're released. For each spell you have bound, you carry a random weird Mark (e.g., your hair writhes all the time, your eyes glow, people near you smell smoke or feel itchy ...) When you release a spell its mark goes away.

You also can bind a spell to an object (talisman) if you're willing to bind 1 hp into the talisman along with the spell. A bound hp can be regained only if the spell is released by destroying the talisman. It doesn't have to be your own hp that you bind.

For awhile I’ve been fiddling with using the Tekumel setting using the White Box rule set. While WB is the main vehicle, a system probably understood by most here, I will be cannibalizing some stuff from EPT as well as using this and that from other sources related to Tekumel. Tekumel is playable and fun. You will not need to know the setting or the language as the players will be starting in a small place where I will fill you in with what you need to know. Slowly and gradually your knowledge of Tekumel will expand. If a player wants to go heavy in the lore, have at it but “my Tekumel” may/will have changes as we go along. Characters will be human so no Ahoggya!

I of course will leave myself open to any and all questions while gauging interest in my humble attempt at Tekumel.

Tamerlane- Pencil me in for this. I tend to be system- agnostic anyway, so maybe I'd have less to un-learn than some folks.

I would be interested in a Tekumel game too. I've always wanted to play it, but I've never gotten the chance.

Is anyone thinking of running a Fate game? I'd love to play, just to see how it works. We had one started here, but RL jumped several of us.

If you have a couple of hours to kill, put this intro on double speed and give it a watch.

I'm a huge Robert E. Howard fan and checked out GMing a Modiphius's Conan: An Age Undreamed Of game. There's a huge amount of content for it, a lot of which I own because of a super deal on Bundle of Holding.

Anyway, C:AAUO is a Fate-based system. I was afraid that the system of sharing points or spending them from a shared pool might be a little unwieldy for PBP. I think it would depend on how frequently the players could post, and how much attention they pay to the previous posts. If a group of players all had their "head in the game," I think it could be really fun.

Depending on what the game is, I could run something Fate. I don't have C:AAUO (and kind of surprised that it's based on Fate). On another board, I'm running a Jedi game and a Forgotten Realms Harpers game using Fate.

I have run Fate a few times and have the core books anyways. I wouldn't run it again but would be willing to try it as a player, something I have never done. Conan would be cool, but have never heard of C:AAUO.

Looking again, I have to take issue with C:AAUO being Fate based. It might have a few points of inspiration in its metacurrency, but it's pretty far from Fate.

I am not familiar with it, nut wiki says it was based on Mutant Chronicles 3rd edition by the same company.

I'm probably confusing a couple of different things. I see that Conan (C:AAUO) is based on the 2d20 system. I probably heard in a video that its Doom and Momentum points are similar to Fate's system and misconnected things.

I could see the similarity there with Doom and Momentum.

It might still be worth trying, I am just not familiar with the system at all.

Your "Dragons" game was the one I referenced; re-reading it is what got me started on this choo-choo of thought.

Oh, hey! How about that? I didn't even check the link and forgot that we tried to start one. You know, I had many ideas for a dragon game and none of them really took off. Is that something you would like to try again?
