This, actually killed the target -- f1. I just realized that I rolled the hit points for your current troglodyte friends incorrectly (they're all female, not male, and are 1+1 HD creatures, not 2 HD). That'll help, right? Actually, it already has.

I'm not worried about it. This is not a perfect game, and I believe the differences to be subtle in most cases, so an occasional 1E rule slipping in will be fine. In this case, a spell was cast and an ability called into question. Since I didn't know how the spell or ability worked, I had to look them up. Any time I need to look up a rule, by default, it will be on Purple Worm. Again, not a big deal. :)

If Purple Worm ever gets a cease & desist order, we'll probably have a sudden change in the default rule set. ;)

I don't have a problem with it dave. I just happened to have the 1e ruleset memorized so i default to that. i didn't realize the spell changed.

That, actually, would be a significant problem. I don't have time to implement a disaster recover plan so I'll have consider the consequences of that situation it if/when it does happen.

I'm still much more familiar with 1E rules myself, and probably unknowingly utilize them from time-to-time. It's only when something specific happens that I don't just know offhand (e.g. how a particular spell works) and I need to look up a rule that they formally come into play.

The group acts more quickly. Ewell turns his attention to the creature to his sword hand (f6) but is unable to connect with his first attack. On the other end of the chamber, Kendrick looks to attack the trog nearest the wall (f4), hoping to cut it off from preventing his planned withdraw, and does so successfully. After dropping his targeted foe, "Back into the tunnel, please!" he calls out and looks to make a fighting retreat back to the tunnel. After a few steps, though, he is greeted by O'rek as the cleric was already moving up to provide some much needed assistance. "Lights strength defend ye!" is heard behind him and Kendrick begins to feel rejuvenated as the divine healing takes affect (+6). Epsilon shuffles a few steps in order to create a clear line of fire and sends a sling bullet flying at one of the creatures along the far wall, striking and killing one of the troglodyte babies, which send the rest of the youth scrambling to exit as quickly as they can through a narrow passage in the southeast corner of the chamber.

The pair of troglodytes flank Ewell, with one (f3) moving to the cavalier's shield side and the other (f6) his sword side. The young knight bats away the first javelin strike at his direction and feels the second javelin strike, but not penetrate through his armor.


Looking to bring an end the flanking situation as quickly as possible, Ewell, with his first multiple attack attempt, makes it a successful one and heavily wounds his sword hand target (f6). Darrin, also realizing the dangerous situation facing his idol, carefully places the lamp he was holding down and gets his first taste of actual combat, but shows his inexperience with his blade as he is unable to connect.

longsword to hit (+3 str , +1class bonus): [1d20+4] = 10+4 = 14 , damage1d8 (+4 str bonus): [1d8+4 ] = 3+4 = 7 (-2 each, so hits AC 6?I think a miss?)

Alright I will do dustdevil then. thought maybe these things would go down easy.

Epsilon will stay back behind the line and call upon a dust devil placing it between the front line fighting and the ones back against the wall.

If possible, O'rek will engage f5 with a crushing mace attack:

Mace attack [1d20+2] = 7+2 = 9 (THACO=20)

Mace Damage (+1 weapon, +3 str dmg) = [1d6+4] = 5+4 = 9


If blocked by Kendrick, he'll stand his ground ready to lend what divine aid he can to the man.

In a chaotic flurry of activity, nearly everyone acts at the same time. Ewell, relieved to see the young Darrin come to his assistance, looks to finish off the troglodyte he previously wounded, but the resiliant creature proves to be difficult to hit and avoids the cavalier's strike. It, in turn, swipes at the young knight but cannot connect.

Darrin continues to look for this first hit and begins to panic when the troglodyte he engaged draws first blood.

Kendrick puts an end to the life of the troglodyte he's battling, but the creature is able to successfully undo the healing O'rek did moments earlier when its final action is a piercing attempt that gets past the defenses of Kendrick (-6). O'rek rushes forward with his mace to assist the paladin in his battle and pulls back his swing attempt as he watches his intended target crumble to the ground after dealing the final attack of its miserable life.

Epsilon holds his position and begins to call (casting time = 2 rounds) upon a dust devil with plans on placing it between the front line fighting and the youth along the back wall... which continue to flee the room after the sling attack fell one of them the previous round; only one (h1) still remains, but is on its way out.

Ewell makes sure he doesnt miss this time... even with his weakened senses...

So, someone needs to take care of the stiff (f2) and one to assist Darrin if possible,

If Kendrick can get to f3, he'll attack that one. If not, he'll take out the stiff.
