Bjarri's Feast

#1 Post by Rex »

Arngeir arrives in Geda as dawn breaks.

Geda info:

Geda is ruled by Baron Kjal Forsetha. He is well known for the Orbaalese nature of his court and his strong support of the King. His age is unknown but he claims anywhere from 50 to 70 depending on his mood. He is famous for both his good humor and his great strength (and love of competitions of strength, which he almost never looses). Nothing is known of his past and he claims that he suffered a wrestling injury which erased all his memory up to that point. He has 1 surviving wife (who claims they have been married for 30 years). His eldest son Bjan, his 2 wives and twin granddaughters live with him. His 2 grandsons are fostered with Baron Afaelin.

The Sarajin temple was established 5 years ago and is run by Clan Baalson. They have made few conversions and mostly serve the Baron and those Orbaalese and Ivinians who have come to serve or settle here under the Baron.

Arngeir breathes a sigh of relief when he arrives at his destination unmolested. Upon arriving at the outskirts he dismounts and checks over Baucent.

He approaches the settlement on foot, firstly looking to locate the church, secondly to find an Inn near the church, while also keeping an eye out a public source of water for the horse and himself.

4 is the Temple of Sarajin.

6 is the Drybridge Inn, popular with merchants.

18 is the Blue Bell Inn, popular with the common folk and bargemen. Prostitutes available (really just 1).

20 is The Standing pine Inn, popular with farmers and townsfolk.

22 is The Brace of Coneys Inn, the best inn in town, popular with the Baron.

Arngeir

Due to its location to the church, Arngeir decides to investigate the The Brace of Coneys. Is there are sign of activity this early? (If not he will wait for the Inn to awaken)

Someone is in the kitchen baking. It is owned by Semwis of Gaemgy. Who greets you at the door and can get you set up. A private room is 6d per night a suite is 12d per night. A bed in the dormitory is 1d per night and a double bed in the dorm is 3d per night. The common room floor is 2f per night. meals range from simple dried fruit (1f) to a large meal with meat, cheese and drink for 2d.

Arngeir enquires about stabling costs.

(I assume that most of his meal costs will be covered by the ceremonial feasting?)

Yes on meal costs, it will be covered by his donation. Stabling is 3f (0.75d) per night.

"Thank you, he will be treated very well I promise."

Everything seems in order at the inn and stables.

is there time for some sleep before the ceremony starts? If so then he will try and get a few hours. If not he'll tidy himself up as best he can and head over to the church. He'll take money with him, but leave his pack at the Inn, armour and weapons too unless they are suitable apparel for the ceremony.

You can catch a couple of hours sleep first, figure they will start around noon, time to get all the necessary chores done for farmers etc.

Arngeir cleans and tidies himself and his clothes and gear before grabbing a few hours rest/sleep and arriving at the church for noon.

You arrive at noon and find a newly built clanhouse. Done in a combination of traditional Ivinian design and Harnic design. More stone used then what is used in Ivinia, most likely due to availability and local customs. It is impressive, particularly for such a small congregation. You notice that most people seem to be going about their business as if it is just another day.

Arngeir approaches the entrance, looking for someone who might be there to greet supplicants.

Arngeir will stick to Ivinian tradition with regards to knocking and waiting or entering and announcing himself, etc.

Arngeir announces himself in the traditional manner and is greeted by a young boy. "I am Dene, my father is clan head, how should I introduce you?"

Arngeir smiles at the boy.

"I am Arngeir Orlygsson of clan Völsung and priest of Sarajin."

I'm assuming that we're now speaking in Ivinian, but let me know if this isn't the case

It would probably be Orbaalese which is a mix of Harnic and Ivinian.

Dene leads you further in and introduces you to a tall Ivinian in his late 30's perhaps. "A welcome sight on such a special day Arngeir Orlygsson. I am Valkhar (clan head) Roar Baalson. What brings you to such a far away place?"
