A simple journey
Re: A simple journey
Idril points down to the bottom of the cliff.
Whispering to Algrim, "Look a horse, I think that is a knight."
As Gerolt kneels he doesn't notice Idril and Algrim watching/talking from the cliff above.
Gerolt is slightly hard of hearing.

Re: A simple journey
Algrim moves aside and watches the strange fellow then calls down to Turnip "Eh some armored fella drawin in the grass. Dunno what tha hell he's doin'. But least it ain't no orc." he for some reason does not feel threatened by this stranger an so does not draw his crossbow this time instead he calls out "Ey! What r' yah doin'!" directed towards the strange fellow.

Re: A simple journey
Gerolt turns his head, looking for the source of the voice. It came from an alcove in the cliff face. Still wary, his hand still resting on the hilt of his sword, the knight replied, “I’m looking for a small group of travelers that were passing this way. There was a fight with orcs just down the vale. Are you one of the travelers? Have you any wounded? I may be of some help with medicines.”
Perhaps to allay any fears or to enhance his own strength and authority, depending on who he were talking to, the knight added, “I am Sir Gerolt, a knight of Our Lady of Paladins.”

Re: A simple journey
Algrim calls back "Aye, that'd be us. No injured currently. Who sent ya lookin' fer us?" he ends asking out of curiosity. Then he calls down to Turnip "Some knightly fella come lookin fer us, er so he says."

“No one,” Gerolt replied. “Part of my charge is to keep the road safe for travelers, merchants, and pilgrims. I was told of foul spawn roaming these hills and after hearing there was a small group of travelers on their way through, I sought to warn you. Alas, I am late bearing such tidings but you say you are all well and I am glad.”GreyWolfVT wrote: ↑Tue Oct 04, 2022 6:30 pm Algrim calls back "Aye, that'd be us. No injured currently. The knight starts his way up to the alcove, slowly and cautious still. ”Eight orcs I last counted and only four of you. You’re no peaceful unarmed pilgrims or fat merchants to dispatch so many rank abominations without injury. I’d like to meet with such hale and brave people so that I might know their names.”
“Do you have a fire up there? I would sit and hear your tale, if only for me to rest a bit.”

Algrim shakes his head "Nah no fire. We were underground. In a old dwarven outpost. Names Algrim locksmith extrodanaire at yer service."

Idril speaks up, I am Idril, Priestess of Ilvir and sometimes Cook.
Turnip and Arngeir have made their way out now.

Just before Turnip heads out she checks for the secret compartment and finds it just like Fili described. She does a quick check for traps, finding none and grabs the bag before rushing out to see what the commotion is about.
Re: A simple journey
Turnip
stuffs the bag into her backpack for later examination
As she exits the hole she squints at the knight, covering her eyes from the sunrays with her hand.
"Oh, good day to you sir. We are just simple travellers, we haven't done nothing wrong, no sir. No poaching in the lord's domains or nothing. But the roads ain't safe, that's for sure! We were swarmed by these foulspawn and were lucky to escape without as much as a scratch, but only thanks to our armored warrior friends right here." She points to Arngeir and Algrim.
"Well, we should be moving. We're sitting ducks here if more foulspawn come looking for their kin. Maybe Sir Knight would be as kind to escort us back to town?"

Re: A simple journey
A dwarven outpost? Interesting." Gerolt was surprised, not too much so. "I've heard there a number of dwarven 'ruins' here and about, but never knew one was here."
"Did you find anything of interest?"
When Turnip spoke, he took in the two indicated warriors, paying close attention to their armor and weapons. A subconscious thing... He nodded to both after sizing them up before turning his attention back to Turnip.
"I admit it certainly seems the lot of you are capable of handling yourselves, but I cannot turn down such a request. I shall escort you back to town, my sword with yours should such be needed."

Re: A simple journey
Turnip gets a sort of sceptical expression on her face as Algrim spills the beans right away, but shakes her head and accepts it.
"I don't really feel safe here, we are very easy to find. And we're making a lot of noice. Should we pack our stuff and get back so that Arngeir can participate in his ceremony? Then we could buy some more equipment and set out to find that skeleton. I think we own that to poor Fili, or whadd'ya all say?"

Re: A simple journey
Arngeir nods at Turnip's suggestion
"Yes, return to town for ceremony. Then we can come back better prepared, and in good stead with Sarajin. Bury dwarf."

It takes a long second to react to Algrim's surprising revelation. "I...well, I do find that interesting," Gerolt confesses. "Such an obligation is a worthwhile virtue. And she is right, the vale is perhaps still dangerous and we should make haste. And pray tell, which ceremony is this you speak of?"

Re: A simple journey
Would Gerolt know about Bjarri's Feast?
Re: A simple journey
Another thing. I didn't bring it up before since all party members were of eccentric origin, but if GM thinks it's suitable (or has Gerolt roll some skill), Gerolt will probably notice that Turnip probably has no experience at all speaking in a proper way with the gentry. So he could assume she's not a runaway serf or even a freeman. But she has not dialect he recognizes either, like Thardic, but speaks using what seems like slang. Probably she's some kind of "urban poor" (not that Gerolt would have a lot of experience with them).

Re: A simple journey
Turnip
"Oh, great, milord. We should get going I think. Wouldn't want to keep you waiting either. Wouldn't be wise with all them ghoulies and garguns 'round these parts, no."
She turns to Algrim.
"Hey, should we close that door behind us? Like, roll the rock back in place?"

Re: A simple journey
Yes, one of the barons in Chybisa is a follower of Sarajin and pretty famous. As it is the most important festival of the year and he is working on converting the locals I would think a Laranian knight would know. As far as Turnips slang goes, he would recognize it as not being local but probably not where she is from.
