Xenos blinks, and considers the suggestions for a few moments, then nods.

"They seem like sound ideas. I'm by no means an expert, but I think we should do as he suggests."

He looks at the man

"I am Xenos."

"My soul is brave - it is made of the stuff of Chaos. The flesh though? That is a bit weaker." He smiles, nods once and stands. "Still though, we are all here for a reason. I can do this. I warn you though, I'm not the sneakiest priest you will ever meet. We are going to cut the goat first right? I'd like it to smell more delicious than I do."

Tuurma grips the hilt of her sword even tighter and her eyes dart between Xenos, Drest and Cyril as they exchange names and smells.

"Men, how do they get anything done?!"

She raises her voice.

"Hey! Monster. Kill."

"That's Tuurma. She's impatient. But she also has a big sword, so I wouldn't tell her that."

Death Rolls
The Oasis
11:00am, Cloudy, Dry

The mysterious stranger makes a few suggestions regarding the groups attack plan, as if he himself had been thinking about this very same hunt for a while now. After a few quick introductions, the normally finicky party not only accepts the advice, but they let this newcomer join in on the fun. Cyril even agrees to take the most precarious spot in the lineup, the hidey hole closest to the water. Even folks with experience in such monsters shudder at the thought of being pulled under by its huge, powerful jaws.

The nameless bait goat is moved back to the edge of the net and a second hole is dug on the south west corner, with a new plan to pull the net over the width of the beast instead of lengthwise. Looking around at the improvements, all agree this should greatly increase their chances of success. Now, they wait. They wait so long that Kang has to eventually release the draw on his bow momentarily to shake out the soreness.

An hour passes, then another, without any further sign that this creature is even interested in their bait. Maybe crocs don't actually like goat meat after all? Once the animal is cut however, and some of its blood drips down into the water, their luck quickly changes. They see the massive snout of the beast slowly emerge from the shore, then its entire head lifts up to sniff the air. When the goat sees the monster, it reacts accordingly, which is just what the suspicious croc needs to get its attention.

With blinding speed, the entire 20 foot length of the animal sprints out of the water, up the muddy bank, and onto the net almost exactly as planned. When it reaches the badly bleating bait, it clamps its powerful jaws around it with enough force to snap a palm tree in half, making a few of you question fighting this thing in the first place.

Actions!

Since I have heard a few different ideas for your first strikes, I will give each of you a full action to react, which means you can cast a spell, fire once and charge, charge in and attack with a melee weapon, etc.

If Drest and Cyril are the ones pulling the net towards the east, I will take a Test of Dex [d6] to see how you each do with finessing the rope over the thing. It will take the full (10 second) round to maneuver the net in place, so no attacks for you two till next round.

Drest

Drest rushes forward with the net to entrap the croc.

Xenos

Even though he was expecting it, the speed of the creature takes him by surprise. He ditches the idea of throwing the javelin, and instead casts Chill Touch, ready to charge in and attack with his scimitar next round.

I totally forgot we had discussed this earlier, so Xenos could have already had that spell cast at the first sight of the croc's arrival.

Go ahead and take another action if you like.

cool, thanks...

Xenos

On seeing the creature finally take an interest, the ixian casts Chill Touch. The sound of the Jaws crunching down on the poor goat is the trigger for him to launch a javelin at the Croc before racing towards it:

Javelin: to-hit [1d20+1]=1+1=2; dmg [1d4+1]=4+1=5

Oh gods, is there a fumble roll I need to make?

 She told you not to use those!!!

No roll necessary. I fill in the detriment, if any, depending on the situation.

This one will be bad!

Valkrina

Using the shell rattle supplied Yuri & Yuti, the bard will invoke a chanting melody with various hand gestures tracing the outline of the charging beast. Giving it plenty of shake, rattle and roll, she casts Faerie Fire upon the crocodile, highlighting the creature in a radiant sunburst orange.

Cyril

The splash startles Cyril out of his meditation. He grabs the corner of the net and stands up, ready to dash across the sand, dragging the net across the croc...
FYI that should have been 3:6...but still a failure

Tuurma

Wraaaaaaaaaaaa!!

With a wild stare, frothing at the mouth and a mighty leap that seems near impossible in armor, Tuurma flies through the air, bastard sword flying in a wide circle to strike down upon the mighty beast, contained in a net or not.

-2 AC for charging this round

Bastard sword THACO 19: [1d20+4]=3+4=7, dmg (sm/l): [1d8+6]=5+6=11/[2d6+6]=3+6=9

Javelins fly through the air as she closes in. Tuurma seems totally oblivious of the imminent danger (and damage), but the croc however seems to have been alerted and manages to twist around, and Tuurma's sword burrows deep into net and earth.

Enraged, Tuurma immeadiately pulls her sword from the ground and lets it fly once more. Again, the beast moves quickly and Tuurma gets tangled in the net herself, her great sword swooping above the head of the beast. aaaaaaah c'mon dice roller ffs

Bastard sword THACO 19: [1d20+4]=6+4=10, dmg (sm/l): [1d8+6]=1+6=7/[2d6+6]=8+6=14

OM ofc please edit my narration as you see fit

Once the beast is fully out of the water did Kang arise from behind his blind. The knocked arrow is pulled back, the fletching grazing his cheek. Muscles straining against the strength of his bow, the monk controls his breathing his mind seeking that moment

Kang releases the arrow.

Composite Bow Attk: [1d20+1]=4+1=5 Dam: [1d6+1]=3+1=4

Kang then drops the bow and runs to the beast, grabbing his halberd that was sticking out of the ground.

Akhilleus

The Kimmerian warrior throws his javelin at the beast.

Javelin: to-hit [1d20+1]=12+1=13; dmg [1d4+1]=2+1=3

He will then approach it, but not step himself into the net, to avoid being taking with it.

If the croc is so big, that it's easy to hit it from outside the net, then he will slash at it with his broad sword.

Broad sword (one-handed) - To hit: [1d20+2]=4+2=6; Dmg: [1d8+3]=2+3=5
Broad sword (one-handed) - To hit: [1d20+2]=7+2=9; Dmg: [1d8+3]=5+3=8

I put the possible actions, just in case. I'm aware that not all of them will be possible.

Not A Great Start
The Oasis
11:00am, Cloudy, Dry

Xenos calls upon the dark arts of his heritage, magically wreathing his own hands in a glowing violet hue.

With the goat still clutched in the beasts mouth, the crazed Pict leaps up from his hiding spot and rushes past its busy maw. The monster rears away from the sudden threat, but not before it’s snout is caught snugly in the thick ropes of the net.

Tuurma actually frightens a few of you when she violently and noisily leaps into the fray, heedless of the outcome of the net trap. She swings her sword like a woman possessed, but strikes only the thick outer hide of this heavily armored beast.

Javelins and arrows fly in, one of them nearly hitting Drest, causing him to drop the rope tied to the net. The monster thrashes wildly, trying to free its head, whipping the released rope away from the scout. Cyril snaps out of his fanatical meditation in time to yank the heavy net across the rear of the monster, but he accidentally pulls it under the trashing tail instead, and will now need to start the process over again, or give it up for another option.

Seeing her friends having trouble hitting the thing, Valkrina conjures up a glowing light that covers the monsters head and body, making it easier to see and possibly hit.

After Akhilleus fails to injure it with his attacks, the group has little choice but to surround and conquer, watching as the frightened animal does exactly as they expected. Thrashing around its massive tail, it doesn’t attempt to bite at anyone, instead rolling it’s huge form around in the sand. Two of its legs stick through the holes in the net, giving it a chance to turn partially and start slowly heading back towards the safety of the pool.

Drest

Seeing little chance in grabbing the whipping rope, Drest draws his short sword and lunges in to attack.

Short Sword [1d20]=17 to hit [1d6+1]=6+1=7 damage

Xenos winces as his javelin barely misses Drest, but continues to rush in and attack the croc:

Scimitar (long): to-hit [1d20+4]=16+4=20, damage [1d8+3]=7+3=10

Assuming that's a hit, then his Chill Touch should discharge

Chill Touch dmg: [1d4]=2

Plus a sorcery save.
