What would YOU like to play or run? (Interest Catch-all)
Re: What would YOU like to play or run? (Interest Catch-all)
Flexibility would be key. What about everyone running 2 characters and you have to keep one in primary play with the group at a time. The other could be doing research or whatever. It would cut the XP gain in half once we were at a point to start doing the side activities.

ASOIAF, there was an OSRIC based game using the 'Against the Giants' A1-4 modules of AD&D played here way back in 2014.A Song of Ice and Fire RPG
I think that has been the closest to using the Westeros and men of the Nightwatch setting.
I watched the series until I got bored and gave up by the seventh. How many of us thought the ending was pants!?
Re: What would YOU like to play or run? (Interest Catch-all)
This may sound odd from someone who loves playing elf games, but ... the series went down hill from the point where the author introduced dragons.Bluetongue wrote: ↑Thu Sep 01, 2022 12:57 pmHow many of us thought the ending was pants!?A Song of Ice and Fire RPG
Neil Gaiman: "I started imagining a world in which we replaced the phrase 'politically correct' wherever we could with 'treating other people with respect', and it made me smile."..."I know what you’re thinking now. You’re thinking 'Oh my god, that’s treating other people with respect gone mad!'"

I was really interested in playing A Song of Fire and Ice after I watched GOT a second time through. Never managed to read the tules though. I could play, but don't have the time to GM another game at this point.
Yes, the ending was pants.

Re: What would YOU like to play or run? (Interest Catch-all)
Another +1
BECMI is the system I've most enjoyed running (when my friends had time to play). I've run OD&D, BECMI and 2e so far.
A BECMI sandbox would be cool. Sandbox is for me the quintessential way to play D&D.
I just would need one or two of my characters to die. I've got too many and too little time.
Please OM, don't kill my characters

This is good to hear.

You took the words right out of my mouth :-p
Re: What would YOU like to play or run? (Interest Catch-all)
Cool, so it seems like I'm not just crazy and there are others who like the idea! I will keep an eye on my calendar and also push this to the top of the prep pile.
It also sounds like playing the BECMI ruleset specifically is a draw, so I think I would forego my standard or playtesting house rules and just go for the out-of-box experience, at least until things are established enough that the gameplay warrants developing new rules. I imagine that a few of the more controversial things, like whether to include weapon mastery or Gazetteer classes, BX or BECMI thief skill progression, and Mystara vs Known World vs homebrew campaign setting, would all be voted on if/when a game gets started.

Don’t sell yourself short. You’re still plenty crazy.

Looking forward to it!

Sounds really good!
Like I said, though, I already feel like I have too many characters and little time. I actually quit three games recently.
So don't count me 100% in.
The odds will increase enormously if the campaign is a sandbox though, like Big Shiny Island and Barrowmaze
Just saying. I'm not going to try to impose anything on anyone, of course!

Re: What would YOU like to play or run? (Interest Catch-all)
Any interest in another holiday season game? The schedule would be build characters and intro setting in November, play from 1 Dec to 31 Jan, and then hard stop 1 Feb. Two DM 'move action forward' posts a week, usually Sunday night and Thursday AM (DM timezone). This year's topic is Cepheus Engine/Traveller combat, where the players are a special operations team on a hostage rescue mission. I have some ideas I want to play-test, so players need a basic understanding of CE/Traveller (most any 2d6 version) and a willingness to give honest critique.
For those who haven't had the misfortune to be in one of my games before, I do not allow Player vs Player, you're expected to be the "good guys" (in a non-gender specific sense), and long story based posts tend to give you an advantage. For example:
Imperial Gambit
The Unknown Darkness

Re: What would YOU like to play or run? (Interest Catch-all)
I ran a brief A Song of Ice and Fire game on these boards a few years back set during the War of the Nine Penny Kings.....I like the system for the House Creation but I'm not really a fan of the combat system after seeing it in practice......
On a DIFFERENT note, I've recently purchased some of the Weird War One books and while I'm not a Savage Worlds system fan, I'd really like to try out a game in that setting, probably using the (I THINK it's called this, apologies if I'm getting it wrong) Zero Engine System a la Free League Games Alien RPG.
In particular, I think I might like to try to use Discord for some 'live action' gaming to see if the setting and system match up in practice as well as they would seem too in my head.....but it would take me some time to get it all set up....maybe a month or two......if anyone is interested and I'm able to actually do this!
I'm thinking the general idea would be a group of French Foreign Legionnaires (to be able to throw in some English and American and whatever type PCs) start off in the early part of the Great War on the Western Front.....encounter some STRANGE sh#t, get pulled into an Air Squadron (obviously a couple of the PCs would have to be Pilots or have an interest in it)....some MORE strange crap goes down as the Air War builds up.....they get brought a bit 'into the know' by the Sons of Solomon or other such organization and then have to counter the plots of the REAL bad guys behind it all.....(assuming it got that far!)
Sound appealing to anyone or back under my rock should I go?

I'm a big WWI air combat fan, so that part sounds really fun to me. Does the game system have a way for handling air combat.
The A Song of Ice and Fire house creation and house vs. house rules are really interesting. I wish I had time to GM a game, but I'm almost overstretched already. Maybe someday.

Ok, I'm a little off-topic here: What do you folks mean by "the ending was pants."?
