---A tall grass with tough sharp leaves 3-5 feet high
---Leaves can be used to make mats and baskets
---The roots are edible and can be eaten after soaking or dried and made into flour for breads or to thicken soups and stews
---A paste made from the boiled roots is effective at stopping bleeding and preventing infection and is an effective poultice to draw out pus from infected wounds
---The root can be soaked and pounded out into fibers which can be woven into bandages, if boiled right before use they are excellent for closing and preventing deep wounds
