What would YOU like to play or run? (Interest Catch-all)

I can promise terror, glory, and riches...or a quick and brutal death.

For people interested in the upcoming Boot Hill 3E game, here's a link to a little overview of how the game and character creation work. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Ym8 ... pyu8/edit# (This one has no US TOS violations (i.e. free download of the full rule pdf). I've requested a game ID, will put up a game forum soon.

We're starting at level 1. This is my first time playing BH 3E, I want to start off with baby steps. :) But we'll be using achievement-based leveling. You guys might make level 2 by around 2024. Just joking. ;)

Hi, in case anyone in this thread was interested but missed this, I posted an interest thread for Talislanta.

So, I have SLIGHTLY more time to game now that my kid is getting a bit older and less interested in her parents.....mixed bag, on the one hand: MY BABY DOESN'T LOVE ME ANYMORE!!!!!!!!!!!.....but on the other hand....Hmmm....MORE TIME TO GAME!

I still have limited time and couldn't do more than a post or two a week....but......

I'm REALLY interested in playing in (I'd love to run, but just don't have the time) either Twilight 2000 (new edition by Free League Games) or Alien the RPG by the same company or HEX (Hollow Earth Expedition)....

Turns out I'll spending more time at home now and what will I do with all this time? Hmmm...

I'd love to mash up OSE Classic with the Symboroum setting. Been pondering on it lately and I can tweak it to work.

Call of Cthulhu 2ed. I just received the latest Kickstarter Box Kit.

Classic Traveller/the three LBBs and supplements/Cepheus Hostile using Kosmos68. Imagine the CCCP in space! Kosmos68 is available for free here https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product_in ... d%3D287667&

Something I'm toying around with for the future (like 4-12 months from now): Fast Track BECMI. The idea is to just try cracking at it, to see how high we can get toward that pipe dream ideal of the 1-36 sandbox game, that maybe even produces an Immortal or two.
  • BECMI rules (though I may use my own house classes, don't know).
  • Treasure is flush as Ritchie Rich. Treasure Types are rolled up to lean toward the maximum possible. When treasure is brought back to town, it magically multiplies by 10x (at least, maybe even more in later levels).
  • You can level up more than one level at a time.
  • Expeditions & lairs at one-page dungeon size or even smaller, just a few rooms. Has to be a fast turnaround.
  • For that matter, "semi-automated" game turns would have to be a must. Give standing orders for exploration and combat, and I would adjudicate your PC's run through a dungeon to the closest I can get to your intentions, always leaning in your favor. Most generic combats I would just run through and post results as part of the exploration report, unless there's a clear reason to pause for player input; or if at any point a PC is dropped to below 1/2 HP, I'll just reset the encounter and ask for player orders at the onset.
  • So in essence a sort of classic PBM is needed, where players manage the bigger goals of their characters. The default game turn would be the month, expeditions go day-by-day, turn-by-turn (always fast forwarding where able), but once you're back in town you return to the abstract "monthly turn" to manage your PC or stable.
I figure that if we'd want characters the chance to reach name level in 6 months of play, that's averaging 50,000 XP per month, which could be per successful expedition if those are short enough. So if a party averages 6 PCs, that's 30,000gp treasure as a bare minimum every outing (which is split 6 ways and then multiplied by 10 back in town). As surviving PCs level up, more dangerous expeditions would yield proportionally higher mega treasure.

I've tinkered around with Treasure Type A and discovered that if you assume all treasure components are max possible unless you fail the % chance, it comes out about that rate.

I love this idea!

The BECMI system has always fascinated me from afar.

Those are some ambitious goals for a PbP game, but I am very interested to see how it works out.

It is ambitious, and I'm sure we'd get nowhere near the fabled Immortals content. Still, with shameless fast tracking we could at least see name level with relative ease. My guess is that once the mass combat and domain rules come into play, everyone will end up pursuing various objectives that end up slowing the game considerably, and we'll be lucky to get out of the teen levels.

I've been playing in a PBP recently where we're experimenting to find the balance where PBP is as fast and furious as possible without tipping over into just being the DM's solo game with the players acting as cheerleaders. It's getting there, but if we find a magic formula that might tip the scales for me to give this an honest try.

It would be interesting for sure. I would be up for it. I imagine it would be pretty fast paced for pbp.

Hmm. Your ideas are intriguing to me and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter.
On November 2nd I will be participating in another 24 hour game of Dungeons & Dragons as part of Extra Life. This organization uses gaming to help raise money to donate to children's hospitals. I'm raising money for Marshfield Children's Hospital in Marshfield, WI, and all money I raise will go to that hospital. All donations are tax-deductible. So I think if we really overloaded all monetary treasures, and made all dungeons really just lairs, very short, tough and focused on the "treasure room" part of it, then we shouldn't have difficulty getting characters up to name level.

The bigger problem would be in organizing the campaign timeline. I'd assume that players would want to do a lot of longterm campaign stuff, like research, construction, recruiting warbands, the sorts of independent activities that mess up PC schedules, and that staggered overlap can kill PBP campaigns if players have their characters locked for weeks while others are going about more daily business.

I have a few ideas of how to keep that flowing, but all of them would require everyone being onboard with a certain amount of "high level play," where all activities are streamlined as much as possible to avoid the turn-by-turn grind. Play always fast forwards to the next most important decision spot. Everything you do is always rounded up to take a full week, that kind of stuff. It would require rethinking our posting and RP style for sure.

I think you're right that flexibility will be key to keeping this game running, and I'm on board with being as flexible as necessary.
