OOC: out of character comments and questions).
Re: OOC: out of character comments and questions).
Hi guys. Thanks for the support and patience. Actually I came out of Leicester Infirmary on Friday after five days on a ward suite breathing with a nebuliser and slowly dissolving the mucus I was drowning in. It must have been COVID related though I can't remember them confirming that.
Sunday in the local Carvery enjoying a beer and open air, though it is very windy which keeps disconnecting my WiFi
I will address the threads and catch up.

We wish you well. Long COVID can be debilitating and we know it can be draining mentally too if you struggle for every breath. Hope you get well and keep the game ticking over.

Re: OOC: out of character comments and questions).
Bought a new house...my butt is tired. downsized from 2 st 4 br to a ranch 3 br.
Re: OOC: out of character comments and questions).
A ranch? Any horses, cattle. Like a real cowboy rancher? (My ignorance about ranches comes from Western movies and coming from Scotland).

We have ranches in the US as you mention (horses, etc). A 'ranch' house is a type of home -> one story only. They are great as they typically have a basement where you can access all the utilities of the house from below the main floor (or, if an attic, from the floor above). It's super handy having everything on one floor and not having to worry about 2nd floor gutter cleanings, getting on a high roof, etc.

A Ranch style house. One floor with a basement.
Sorry.... I should have clarified that....
2 story 4 bedroom house to a 1 story 3 bedroom house both had a basement/sublevel partially in ground cement foundation.
3400 sq ft down to 1500 sq ft approx.

I met my wife in Cardiff, but I was brought up in Cheltenham and latterly in Meole Brace, Shropshire before moving to Leicestershire.
It is very flat here, I miss the hills.
Sorry yesterday and today were hospital visits. I was hoping my haematologist might say my chemo sessions have ended but I have to go for another CT scan next week.
I will get on with updates over the next day or so.

Yes I think this, among a couple of other trialled rules such as the Mages being able to check for spell retention and players having a boost on various saves according to armour type are very effective and balanced within the game. If I am not mistaken, I understand Steban, a character slain by a ghoul may have lived if he had hit the ghoul during the two rounds of action where he saved on his ongoing Constitution checks. But I like the house rule to give him a shot.

1" in dungeons is actually 10ft.Spearmint wrote:I was checking Web spell for details and to be honest it just does not seem effective as a spell, limiting web volume to '8 cubic inches max' or a 4x2x1'ft limit. In my head I always envisioned being able to cast a web that could cover at least a 10x10 passage to say a depth of 5'ft with additional depth or height coming with each level gain.
Page 39 of the Player's Handbook explains the scale. It's a convention inherited from table top wargaming. It is rather confusing and annoying when feet and inches are used so interchangeably.
Re: OOC: out of character comments and questions).
Yes, the 8 cubic inches is the confusing bit. The correct use should be written as in 6'4", so 10'ft rather than 10" inches.
I give a lot of leeway with spells to make them practical, such as changing parameters of Identify or raising movement rate in Levitation spells.
I would also encourage mages to invest in spell research to create unique spell variations. At least the idea of spell retention seems to be working effectively and making mages a playable character class.
