Re: Secure Comms 001: OOC Chatter, Prattle, Gossip, and Blather
Oy sorry folks-. Didn't have a spare moment this weekend. Just catching up to the action now....
Re: Secure Comms 001: OOC Chatter, Prattle, Gossip, and Blather
I have reached out to Algernon to see if he is still with the campaign. I haven't heard back, so I think I'll open up the Call for Players and see if we can get one more player in the game before we hit a stage at which it will be much harder to bring new people in.
Should Algernon return at any point:
Welcome back! Reach out to me and we'll figure out how and when to get Cosmo back in the story!

...like a finely honed combat team...
Personally I think the baguette would have been as effective.
On that front, Chip's character has been evolving with occasional bouts of goofiness or exuberance, which I like. But if the tone is shifting past what's intended for the campaign just let me know and I can reel it back.

The goofiness is welcomed, and I loved the baguette bit. If Rex had rolled higher on the "improvise a weapon" roll, I might have let it work!
Re: Secure Comms 001: OOC Chatter, Prattle, Gossip, and Blather
It is a known fact that the roller hates me.
Re: Secure Comms 001: OOC Chatter, Prattle, Gossip, and Blather
I seem to be having some mixed luck with it recently too.
Re: Secure Comms 001: OOC Chatter, Prattle, Gossip, and Blather
I am traveling to visit family today through Friday late. I am not sure if I will be able to post while I am there so feel free to NPC my character. I will be back Saturday.

Reflections on combat in Free Starspiel, so far
I think there are two poles for how one could run combat:
1. Approximating a standard D&D-ish approach to combat, where each side rolls for each combat maneuver, hoping to chip down the other side's defenses until they're defeated.
2. a broader, more generalized combat, resolved by a single opposed roll, with the winner getting to decide the outcome.
So far, I've been tending towards a middle position, where we are paying attention to individual maneuvers, but kinda rushing to the conclusion once there's a decisive good roll on the PCs part. The individual maneuvers are important, because, right now, combat is very asymmetrical, with the sides being differently armed. On the other hand, these are low-level threats, and we don't need to linger on them for long.
In a narratively significant fight, say, against a dragon or your backstory-soaked mortal enemy, we'd be more likely to emulate D&D, counting the number hits on the opponent.
In a more even fight against equivalently armed mooks, we'd go more broad.
I wanted to share my thinking on this with you, as tactics are important, and you can't plan tactics if you don't understand how I'm emulating the combat. If there's ever a time where you're unsure which gear we're running in, please let me know. And if there's ever a time when you feel strongly about which gear is appropriate, please let me know, and i'll happily take it under advisement.
I may also switch gears mid-fight, if that is what seems appropriate.
Does that help? Clear as mud?

Sounds good. No matter the system or how its mechanics work I try and make my characters actions at least make sense to me from a real world perspective. For example: What would I do in this position?

Goran is fine with Kallina having the stunner.
I wasn't sure if there was a second stunner in the fracas.

OK. You can have it if she doesn't survive this grenade.
Re: Secure Comms 001: OOC Chatter, Prattle, Gossip, and Blather
I think the mutineers already raised the arms locker: Goran’s stuff in there and locker was (1) an autupistol; (2) Bowie knife; (3) for stun grenades. One of the mutineers has Kallina’s stunner and suit too. Maybe there’s more stuff in there arms locker still? Goran will head to get his kickback if he can.
Re: Secure Comms 001: OOC Chatter, Prattle, Gossip, and Blather
Goran
Goran keeps his auto pistol on the dralasite and says to it “drop all your gear. Everything.” followed by “where is ginger headed and how many more of you are there?”
Goran will carefully collect the Dralasite’s gear. If it didn’t include a lock compick he will head to try to retrieve his
Goan says to the others, ”I like those gloves that Yazirian has!”
Does Goran recognize the autopistol as being his own?

Re: Secure Comms 001: OOC Chatter, Prattle, Gossip, and Blather
Quick question: where are the cargo bay, security area and escape pods in relation to each other?
I'm just wondering if this is an either/or situation, or whether we can do more than one if we are clever with the route?
