Chapter 05: Round the bend

Tiny

"I don't know either."

[sastaz]

Thorelf, in a low voice

"Do you remember that small imp we found among the junk earlier? It sure sounds like a few of those, doesn't it? I say we ready our weapons and wait here, what do you think?"

[Rex]

Tiny

"Got it."

Tiny readies his sword.

[Nordbo]

Some of the members of the group hear some additional noise - above the swooshing sound - from a specific direction, and ready themselves.

Korin takes up his mace ready for some sort of attack. "Hell, I told yah this weren't tha way out Thorelf." the dwarf scolds sort of in a lower tone.

Tiny

Tiny readies his sword and moves so that they are spread out some.

[Nordbo]

Something appears, but not coming from the direction of the noise. Scuttling round from behind the metal skeleton podium are some very large rats. In fact quite big. They hesitate, the torch light reflecting in their peering eyes. The noise in the distance, meanwhile, continues unbroken.

[GreyWolfVT]

Korin looking around wonders if they shouldn't just turn back. "Yah, think we should just keep standin round ere? I'm all fer turnin' back and findin' another route."

Provided those rats neither attack nor follow us, I am with you on this, Korin.

[Rex]

Tiny

"Got it."

Tiny starts back the way they came.

[Nordbo]

Eaton (as NPC)

raises his ornate mace and storms threateningly towards the rats, shouting "By Uthgar!"

They scatter in terror, and disappear. He turns to the others, snorting: "Do we, proven cultist killers, suddenly turn away because of some...rats ? I mean, come on..."

Richard is not aware that he has killed anyone.

[GreyWolfVT]

Korin smirks at Eaton "Nah, them are big rats, an I dun like rats big enough ta swallow me. That an I wanted ta get out of this bleedin place and here we be goin deeper in."

[Rex]

Tiny

Tiny stops, "We better make up our minds before whatever is making that noise pays us a visit which seems likely since Eaton just yelled at the top of his lungs."

[Nordbo]

As by chance, on the 'north-eastern' wall section of the 'metal skeleton hall' (29), you notice a door in disguise. Two of the slabs on the tomb wall are in fact one piece; they make up a semi-concealed door. What's more, the inscription on it is not in any arcane mysterious language at all. Quite clearly, in common, it says:

Korin at this point just shrugs and heads to said door. Checks it for traps then opens it and walks through. "I dun care if it shouldn't be this easy I've had me fill o' this place."

Tiny follows Korin.

Eaton (as NPC)

"But it worked - I put the holy terror in them!" he counters Tiny - or the back of Tiny. Realising Tiny may be out of earshot, Eaton follows him in through the door and repeats his claim.

Inside, Korin, Tiny and Eaton see a circular staircase going up.

Korin calls back to Thorelf "Ya comin' Thorelf?" waits a moment for Thorelf then proceeds up the stairs.
