Chapter 05: Round the bend
Re: Chapter 05: Round the bend
LOL, you may have figured out how I play Tiny.
Re: Chapter 05: Round the bend
Thorelf stops and looks at the statue for a while.
"It's really beautiful. I mean, except for the imagery, of course. We wouldn't want any undead among us, ammirite? But the statue itself, still. Would have made a nice piece in our old library. Speaking of which, it says something at the base, right?
Thorelf leans closer to read.
Also, he has a really small taste of the water running from the statue's pitcher, just a fingertip.

Korin shakes his head "Agree ta disagree I s'pose Thorelf. I ain't really thinkin no vampires as bein' beautiful."

Thorelf
bends down to read and finds a short epitaph, written in common:
Lay restful, sandlander
Free from all strife
Until the whisperer goes silent
Then rise to new life
The water tastes fresh, like spring water.

Richard
There's something afoot. I can feel the sensation of huge dice rolling. Let's proceed. I shall follow you guys any which way you go.
Re: Chapter 05: Round the bend
Thorelf seems immersed in deep thoughts and not at all bothered by the huge dice of stress rolling at the back of his mind.
"Sandlander, huh? What is that supposed to mean? Is this a riddle? Maybe it should be taken to mean that this person - or creature - stepped off a boat onto a beach or something like that? And what whispering are they talking about? We should be weary and remember this if we stumble upon any whispering. Or the 'whispering of the ocean' perhaps? Hmmm...."
He suddenly comes to.
"Well then, let's keep going, like you say."
He walks over to the bridge.
"Oooookay, this does not look that solid. Whaddya say Korin? I mean, I'm not saying that because you're a dwarf you automatically know bridge building. Or wait, I do."

Korin shrugs "Eh we dwarf folk have a mind fer stone work though so let me giver a once over."
Search Check [1d6]=2 Checking to see if the bridge appears to be solid enough to safely cross using it.

Re: Chapter 05: Round the bend
(Area 25)
When hearing the word 'Sandlander', Tiny suddenly remembers that some days earlier, while sleeping, he "dreamt of enormous wealth - gold and treasures that suddenly fade away again, in a cloud of sand. In their place appear men, seemingly made of sand....."
(copied from: https://www.unseenservant.us/forum/view ... 38&t=11645 )
(Bridge = Area 26)
Thorelf starts to cross the skull & bones bridge. A small, possibly shallow-ish stream flows under the bridge from the 'south-west' towards the 'north-east'. He quickly comes up to the semi-wrecked gates described earlier. Beyond the gates, a long passage leads inwards: a hallway lined with fitted slabs / sections / compartments of some kind (see pic below).
Korin, meanwhile, performs a structural diagnosis of said bridge: it looks sturdy enough for a few individuals. What's more, Thorelf has made it across, apparently OK.

"I dreamed about gold and treasure turning into sand the other night." He goes on to explain is dream to everyone.

Korin crosses the bridge after giving the thumbs up signal that it passes his inspection.

Re: Chapter 05: Round the bend
The gentle, soothing, sweeping wind-like sound that you have heard a couple of times before inside this complex, is now apparent again.

Richard
It sounds to me as if the whisperer is no longer silent. That is a relief.

Re: Chapter 05: Round the bend
You enter a straight passage, with a vaulted ceiling. Set in the walls on both sides are stone slabs, each carrying an inscription in some obscure language. The slab walls go on as far as the light from your torches reach.
The soft, soothing sound fades and increases in a gentle, drawn out way.

Re: Chapter 05: Round the bend
Korin sticks a finger in his mouth and pulls it out holding it up to test the air flow trying to determine if maybe they are getting closer to a way out or not. "Thought ya said this was tha way out Thorelf?"
