"What would you consider a small deposit? Also, how much to just make a magic Apsis shield without the ingot? I would like to have both ideally."
Apsis is the shield the Greek Hoplites carried.

"I wonder if Ironguard might have some of the Maple, Juniper or Oak supplies you need? I am traveling there soon. 4 fold you say. 440 gp you think roughly on cost? Your explanation seems reasonable to me. It's a bit more complicated than I thought. I don't want to risk accuracy though. I'm not the most accurate of archers, but I'm not the worst either. I'm going to invest in a dexterity training camp and a sort of health/apothecary conditioning place here in Helix that might help people's constitution and a place to learn swordsmanship over time. Something to help the town and the adventurers that come here. I'm rambling..I'll try and find the material you need and come back.Spearmint wrote: ↑Tue Apr 12, 2022 1:05 am House of Valeron:
From the first introduction to the dwelling:
Durgo, flush with a few coins from his recent expedition goes in search of upgrading his gear and his own abilities. First stop, a new bow.
Being received by the elf you enter his workshop where a number of artisan bows are hung up for sale and display.
"Quite the ox aren't you.", he says seeing the bulging physique. "Yes most normal bows have a finite pull strength, so irrespective of your capacity to drag a heavier strain, the bow will only loose the arrow with a median force."
He points out a couple of models. "This yew wood. The grain runs in one direction and is tightly packed so I can slim the bow while maintaining its power. But these other woods require a thicker make.
Now these examples are recurve limbs, see the staves curve away from the wielder when unstrung. These store more energy and are faster to use but slightly less accurate. I supply such to various cavalrymen around the Duchy."
You test a few. He shows you better techniques for restringing bows and the dog's and don't's of caring for the equipment. Circling back to your question,
"Yes, I can craft such a bow but securing the right wood is the issue. I have to range far and wide since most of the select Maple or Juniper do not grow in the close reaches of the forest and a lot of the Oak are subject to aging.
If you can bring me a selection of these, I can craft a bow. The wood needs seasoning and I can take your measurements for size and get an idea of balance in your aim."
He talks shop. A common longbow might cost in the region of 66gp or 110gp for a composite model, to augment one to improve damage output might cost fourfold in materials and labour costs.
Durgo ask any relevant questions.

Silvine: Art dealer and sculptor.
She takes the commission from Moriartus and takes two weeks to craft the item. You can go back during your downtime to check on progress and discuss angles, features, pyramid size.
Estimated completion date: June 6th.
when you pick it up completed you can use it as a tribute item and gain the gp/xp reward.

The Axe and Anvil Forge.
Several works are commissioned or discussed.
Dougal.
Getting apprentice Sandy to measure you up the next day, your lighter chainmail AC6, the weight is reduced to 25lbs and the layers are thinner around the arms and below the waist where you have more body movement. -140gp. Expected finish May 30th.
Orgoth .. You could leave 100gp as a start in the labour costs.
A magic shield needs magic ingredients, imbued materials or a sage to enchanted runes and sigils of power. From scratch, a Shield +1 would cost upwards of 2000gp to craft and take a few weeks.
The quote received is because you are providing an enchanted Golem Ingot as part of the materials. Decide if you want to commission one or an alternative.

House of Valeron.
The weavers and bowyer are in high demand. A new group just set out to spool spider silk and the threads are delicately sewn into various garb and raiments on the village looms.
The Ossithrax tapestry is prioritised with some of the weavers working through the night to secure a deadline for export.
Sven checks his investment, picking out the faint traces of intricate Mending enhanced threads and the illusory 3-D effect of the black dragon in flight, wings beating and heads turned.
Valeron had mentioned prior he was not familiar with the name but understood in the annuals of Barrow Moor history, a black dragon had held sway over much of the region. You can speak the dragon's name but there is no repeat effect of the pressure wave experienced in the tapestry room.
There are rumours of dragons, what fantasy realm is not riddled with such fairy stories. But some recent gossip regarding the possible recovery of dragon eggs has tongues wagging in town. (Perhaps they mean a rust monster egg?)
Talking suspicions regarding Ollis' interest, it may be he too has heard of dragon revivals and wonders wether the tapestry coming to the surface and being repaired is not an omen of things to come.
Durgo talks bows and arrows. Superior equipment is expensive. You weigh the cost against a minor improvement. Does hitting at a +5% improved accuracy make value for money? What price killing a monster before it kills you? The warrior considers different recommended hardwoods and craft builds and goes away with a few designs and costs to think about.

Cadeweed thanks the dwarf for the referral and purchases the artisan kit from the locksmith.Spearmint wrote: ↑Tue Apr 12, 2022 2:55 pm The Axe and Anvil Forge
The dwarven smithies receive a steady stream of customers looking to iron out chinks in armour, sharpen edges on blades and churn out the various tools that tradesmen require.
Taking Cadeweed's enquiry, they refer you to a nearby locksmith who can supply you with interchangeable skeleton keys and lock picks, tools of fine carbon steel, chisels, pliers, long nosed and wire-cutters. Additions to a kit include a small sliver of mirrored glass on a stem and scalpels for intricate work, mini-vice and clamps and should all else fail, a double pronged crowbar and sap. A traditional thieves kit adds no proficiency bonus but this will add 10% to lockpicking and removing or disabling mechanical traps.
(You can have 6 lockpicks. Each adds the 10% skill bonus but a failed roll snaps the pick). The cost is 120gp, quadruple a normal toolkit (30gp) but the equipment is artisan and if it opens a safe you could not do otherwise, you are surely only a heist away from recouping the outlay.
120 gp taken off the sheet.

Sven seems satisfied with the outcome of the conversation, glad the valuable tapestry hasnt produced any other odd effects while it was being restored.
"We will need to come up with a way to package this for travel so it isn't damaged in transport. I will consult those at the Silver Standard to see if they have any ideas. Surely they have dealt with delicate materials before."

Durgo continues with the bowyer, "Forgive me, I am Durgo good sir. I am young and wet behind the ears. What wood would you recommend for my bow? I think I'd prefer Maple or Juniper. Can I pay you to source the material or do I need to find a source for you? I'm going to Ironguard in a few days, maybe they may have some materials I can acquire there to bring back for you. If you know a vendor there with the resources, I'll check with them when I arrive there. I'd like to get a bow while I wait for my other bow to be built, please. I'd like to be able to trade it in on the other one too. Perhaps some nice sheaf arrows too. "
Later on, Durgo purchases the following items.
4 Lamp Oil Flask 6 cp per = 26 copper. (10% surcharge) 4 lbs
Quiver 8 sp/ 80 CP (10% ) 88 cp
Bandages/healing kits?
2 Greek Fire 10 gp per 10% 22 gp
Durgo finds a bard or artisan to sing a song for the adventures of the group in the local taverns 30 gp value.

Fydmar will seek out Karg Barrelgut. I am hoping that with all the fighters that come to see you that you know of someone well versed in fighting with a hand axe. Unfortunately I've not had the opportunity to learn that style until now. Of course I will provide you a fair referral fee if you can connect me with such a person.

Durgo finds a bard or artisan to sing a song for the adventures of the group in the local taverns 30 gp value.
Refined lantern oil is 1gp per earthenware flask.
A single 1st Aid Kit can be purchased for 25gp.
Greek Fire, is not for sale (though similar concoctions are created by gnome artisans).
A quiver and twenty arrows you can buy from Valeron for 2gp, 10sp (no mark up).
The bard Bublé pens a few songs about ants, spiders and scarabs. Entitled 'Creepy Crawlies'.
take +30xp.
Fydmar the mercantile only sells 1st Aid Kits to one per customer as supply is limited since they are created locally via collection of spider silk. The present production capacity is only six per week.
The Axe and Anvil Forge.
Fydmar engages a warrior tutor to teach him rudimentary Axe wielding and throwing techniques. Whilst not a traditional rogue weapon it is a familiar tool and weapon for dwarven folk. With practice, a couple of hours a day going through techniques for parrying, slicing, lunge and hacks, dual wielding options not to mention footwork and attacks versus a shield wall.
In return for the tutoring you commit to honouring the Axe-maester with a new suit of chainmail. (-75gp) payable when you gain the skill.
gain Hand Axe/tomahawk as a WoP when you level up.
Dougal you can sell used Studded Leather for half book price, so +7gp & 10sp.

I can provide continued payment from time to time to help with improvements to facilities. I can partner with you to help train when I'm in town as my experience grows too. Puts his maximum effort into learning the new weapon techniques while the party remains in Helix. When the time comes to depart, he will promise the maester that he will resume studies upon his return. He gives Karg 5gp finders fee, and 75gp to produce the chain armor for his instructor (to be handed over upon his completing his training). Figured would just deduct it now. Understood on the first aid kits. Inventory adjusted.
