What would YOU like to play or run? (Interest Catch-all)

There has been RQ run here, and if you ran it you'd probably find takers. Our you could use BRP and do all sorts of things.

Addendum If you check out the board index, down at the bottom, you'll see "Completed", "Archived", and "Abandoned" games. Poking through there might be informative.

(Sorry for the delay, I don't check the LFP/LFG forum often.)

We've done Torchbearer a handful of times and I was a player or GM in all of them. Some of them were really awesome. :) My favorite was the one where we all played classes from the halloween supplement. I also liked the characters in the more recent game who all modeled a twist on a Grimm fairytale. In both cases, the story and roleplay that came out was super fun. In one of the games we even made it through a Town phase. :)

I have found two reoccurring issues with running Torchbearer here...
* Torchbearer is a more collective game, rather than individual action like OSR games. Since any action by an individual advances The Grind for the whole group, it is more important that players have their characters coordinate (one character does an action, everyone else describes their help, working together). This makes it harder to teach new players particularly when they come with OSR expectations (which most here do).
* The Play-by-Post system makes "table talk" really difficult - and table talk is central to collective game actions. On a forum, it means slower play with a lot of red OOC text and that is a literal and figurative drag.

...the combination of those two things together has made all the Torchbearer games here eventually peter out.

That said, I will play in any Torchbearer game anyone ever wants to run. Or Burning Wheel, for that matter. Love 'em. I'd be particularly interested in trying out Torchbearer 2nd edition, which I haven't gotten to play yet.

Does anyone know how the RQ:G rules have worked with the Play-By-Post format?

I played in one RQ game, I think it was 1st edition. It was a slow game but I am not sure if that was due to the rules or the mix of players and DM. In the end it just faded out. I have thought of running HarnMaster but like RQ it is a crunchier game and that may slow it down. What I have considered to speed it up is just have player state actions and the DM does all the rolling, that way it is less likely the players miss some of the rolls. That might help RQ as well.

Yea, that was my RQ1 game. Most of the slowness was not system related (other than some slowness due to a mildly involved chargen - that's a consideration for RQG), but more due to my own pace of things combined with not having a solid first adventure hook. What killed it though was my realization of how much a pain it would be to run RQ combat the way I like to run it in play by post. I don't quite do strike rank as action points, but pretty darn close. And then add in parry rolls between attack roll and hit location and damage... If strike rank is used as a pure initiative counter, I think it could be streamlined. But you still have parry rolls, and the decision about whether to parry or not. GM making die rolls can speed up lots of play by post since the GM can just make the roll as soon as he declares the target number and modifiers (as long as there isn't a reason and space for the player to change their mind after hearing the target number and modifiers).

I think for crunchier games character generation will inevitability take longer and how to handle combat is the bigger question.

Yea, I'm a bit anxious about Cold Iron, but at least it has an everybody declares and then actions are resolved system and there aren't initiative rolls, though spell casting is an action point system, but it is almost never going to involve more than one decision point in the middle of a round, and MOST of the time mid round spell decisions are still declared before combat resolution (the only exception is sometimes mid-round spell decisions DO come after missile fire resolution). Other than adjudicating multiple characters moving, there isn't much abort action and do something different, and mostly that's handled during declarations. There is an order to declarations, but mostly declarations can be taken by going around the table or pop corn in the case of play by post.

Each system has there own quirks and pbp can be adaptable as long as the group is willing to give it a shot.

Each mix of DM and players also has a set of quirks and expectations. As a player I'd give some DM's a lot of latitude on running my character, but other DMs seem better with less control and more detail.

No idea how it would work, but I'm re-reading Harry Potter and wondering if the HERO system could handle it...

Hi all! I was in 2-3 TB games here with Marillus, one was the space marines hack. I would be really happy to join a game. Especially 2e!

I'd need a PM or email sent to prod me though, as I'm not in any games right now and check the forum infrequently. Because I've got a serious addiction issues with the games in this site and had to go cold turkey a while back. But I THINK I can control myself now. Just one character in one game...

If also be really interested in a reboot of Marullus' North Marches game. :P

Rusty! How are you? Disappeared for a long time. Nice to see you back.

Marullus has just joined Spearmints's Barrowmaze campaign which is in a good place for recruiting new players right now.

It has a lot of the features that we had in the LL: North Marches but is using 1st ed D&D rather than LL.

So, can I point you to both, the Barrowmaze 'looking for players' thread and check out the actual campaign being run.

Hope to see you joining in.

Welcome back!

And good luck with just the single character in a single game.

Thanks all.

And thanks Dave. :P if I only look at Barrowmaze, Spearmint only asked us one character each.... I might be good...

Definitely could be. I'd like to play a character!

Players could take turns describing the dungeon rooms we enter ...

Yeah, a collab game could be fun. Sargolis looks like it would be pretty simple to run collab with the procedural tools baked right in.
