Re: 2. Borovia
Oh the drama mutters Tumbler. Bet it won't open now if we try too. He makes a face and speaks in a spooky voice Whoooooooooo, beware gates that open themselves....
Re: 2. Borovia
Robert looks back at the closing gate. I'm sure none of us saw that coming, correct? Well, best to keep moving forward then!

In the interest of keeping things moving, I'll take that as consensus to keep riding on. If anyone wants to do something other than ride on into town, let me know.
You continue on along the road—although "road" is too kind a word at this point. The narrow, muddy route you follow is little more than a path now. The mist falls heavy about you, limiting vision. Somewhere in the distance, a wolf howls.
After half an hour of riding, tall shapes begin to loom ahead out of the dense fog. The muddy ground underfoot gives way to slick, wet cobblestones. The shapes become recognizable as the dwellings of the village of Borovia. The windows of each house stare out from pools of black nothingness. No sound cuts the silence except for a single mournful sobbing that echoes through the streets from a distance.
As you ride into town, you notice that most of the buildings are deserted. All but one of the shops are permanently closed. Claw marks cover most of the walls.
You reach the central square. Only two establishments show any sign of life. Sparse light from a building on the southeast corner of the square spills out from behind heavy curtains. A sign over the door creaks on its hinges, proclaiming this "Bildrath's Mercantile."
From the northeast, a single shaft of light thrusts into the main square, its brightness like a solid pillar in the heavy fog. Above the gaping doorway, a sign hangs precariously askew, declaring that this is the "Blood on the Vine Tavern."
From the main square, streets lead east (from which you came), south, west, and northwest. The sobbing seems to be coming from the south.

Re: 2. Borovia
This does not Tumbler spits on the ground look like a place to make our fortune. He dismounts and kicks at the ground. Anyone with any sense would get out of here first chance they get.
Re: 2. Borovia
Robert will take a moment to examine the claw marks to see if it is from any animal he can recognize.
Re: 2. Borovia
Tibbius laughs like a small boy hearing for the first time a jest that combines farts with noise picking. "It looks like most of the inhabitants anticipated your advice, dear dwarf." Continuing to scan the dilapidated buildings for any sign of trouble, he adds, "First, I wonder whether these run down houses might hold any left behind valuables... Second, did any of us think to lift the bag of coins that were brought us by that herald last night?"
Re: 2. Borovia
The claw marks appear to have been made by very large wolves.
The gypsy left the bag of gold with the barkeeper, not you.

Re: 2. Borovia
Resisting the temptation to howl like a wolf (one look at Vorkath and Agrippo sensed the disapproval), Agrippo will lead his mount to the tavern. "Large wolf marks you say. Pack savages, though nothing a trusty spear thrust couldn't turn into a new fireside pelt. That or a steady flame to keep them at bay."
With second thoughts about entering the tavern, he'll tie up Snowflake and suggest we investigate the sobbing cries down the road.

Vorkath / Borovia town
"I like this not," says Vorkath, reining in his warhorse. The Guardian of Truth peers about, considering options and the likely house of the burgomeister. "This desolation bodes ill."
"Tibbius - these houses are not ours to loot, even if their occupants are gone," advises the paladin. "These good folk may need such monies more so than us."
"Hark! There be sobbing!" exclaims Vorkath, pointing in the direction of the sorry noise. "Let us investigate!"

Re: 2. Borovia
Tibbius remains in saddle. "Though I am not overly fond of my sweating, smelly mount, I would prefer not to abandon her tied to a wall marked by wolf claws. I shall ride to the sound of distress, return, and inform you." he gently pulls the reins and kicks his heels. The horse prances and curvettes southward.

Re: 2. Borovia
Yeah grumbles Tumbler lets go investigate another problem that isn't ours. He remounts his pony and continues to grumble to himself Only the elf has any sense. Leave the mounts here, yeah right. If I lived in this place and I saw a horse alone I'd be gone in a heartbeat.

Tibbius wonders whether the abandoned houses might contain valuables, but is rebuked by the paladin. "Hark! There be sobbing!" exclaims Vorkath. "Let us investigate!" Tumbler, working hard to earn the nickname "Grumbler," is not so eager. "Yeah," he says sarcastically, "lets go investigate another problem that isn't ours."
You ride south toward the sound of the moaning sobs that float through the still, gray streets. You stop when you reach the source of the sounds: they emanate from inside a drab two-story townhouse.

Re: 2. Borovia
Robert eyes the claw marks, I don't like the look of that. Wolves tend to avoid any sort of settlements and only rarely would they attack people. Something is definately off around here. I wouldn't be surprised if someone was trying to summon the wolves, control them, or something more vile. Keep your eyes and ears open for if they decide to come back. We should also hit the tavern as soon as we finish investingating the sobbing, to find out what's going on
Re: 2. Borovia
Tibbius bends toward his horse's neck and seems to be whispering.
A hideously blotchy-furred feline flows down the horse's shaking foreleg and skitters to the doorpost, which it haughtily sniffs. It then glides low along the townhouse wall, fur on end, clearly displeased by doggy odors only it can smell. It is seeking stealthy access to the house.
"Randolph Cat will investigate the sobbing. In case tis on account of mice,
he may resolve it."
Zhym:: Tibbius' familiar will go so far as the edge of curiosity, but not into deadly circumstances. He will promptly report back the locations of treats, damsels, dogs, and trinkets.

Vorkath / house
The Faith Hunter dismounts Repentance, watches the cat disappear into the house, and shakes his head.
"Since when do I let a cat do my business?" says Vorkath impatiently. "Tis a house, not a dungeon."
Drawing Excommunicator for good measure, the paladin opens the front door. "Hello there! We are here to help! Where are you?"

Re: 2. Borovia
Randolph Cat starts looking for a way in. Or for mice. One can never tell, with cats.
Vorkath tries the door, but it doesn't open.

Iluq, Dark Elf
Iluq walks up to the door and raps on it with his knuckles in an affirmative, but friendly, sort of way.

Re: 2. Borovia
Robert pauses for a moment, "Odd. Hopefully it is something that is still in the land of the living up there. Well, shall we go in? Or try to find out more at the tavern?"
