Oh, unlucky to be in the storm, hope there isn't much clearing up to do. We're out of it down here, it's been lovely.

It's blown part of our chimney in - and I'm just 200 miles from you! Fortunately easily fixable. (We have a roofer three doors down. He's getting really busy, but prefers to work near home)The Bindoner wrote: ↑Mon Jan 31, 2022 12:21 am Oh, unlucky to be in the storm, hope there isn't much clearing up to do. Re: Avastan Planning & OOC
Commiserations, that's not fun at all. Lucky to have a local guy you can trust, though.
Re: Avastan Planning & OOC
Sorry to hear you were hit but local guy you can trust must be helpful. The North East got a bit of a scouring but not as bad as Arwen. So we were fine apart from lots of "tree shrapnel" on (and impaled in!) the lawn! Could have been nasty - good job I slept in my coffin!
My brother in law lost a few roof tiles and his shed roof but gained a coat!!!
Truly bizarre!!!

Gave the mother in law a shock as the grate exploded though!
Still - we found a wind-blown trug in the garden so not all bad!

In game weather, I thought I saw that it was snowing and that the weather was bad. If so, and I think some of the combat armor has IR and other shielding, would that prevent most detection schemes? While still visible to the Mk 1 eyeball, the weather would block most of that at range, wouldn't it?
Re: Avastan Planning & OOC
Yes, there are snow flurries. The snow (born of Avastan's tainted atmosphere) is "dirty" and interferes with sensors and laser comms.Leitz wrote: ↑Tue Feb 01, 2022 12:21 pm In game weather, I thought I saw that it was snowing and that the weather was bad. If you have "Chameleon surface" listed as built into your armour it will blend your IR (note: not visual) profile into that of the ambient background and thereby render you less detectable by IR scanning. NB Your new AFVs also have this feature but your paramilitary G Carriers won't.
The snow flurries do indeed hinder visual detection and also visual identification of figures wearing bulky cold weather gear over armour. This last is Gaughan's current "disguise" for his team. On the identification point higher tech Image Enhancement gear (Here I'm talking starlight scopes+++ that make everything look green) might also be stymied by a disguise. With LOS the Image Enhancement gear would detect and "see" you (whereas IR wouldn't) but the operator wouldn't know who you were...
Less use in a pitched battle or against very trigger happy folk but...
Obviously due to increased bulk folk in full kit and carrying lots of gear (or who are an Aslan!) aren't going to pull this off with continuing success.
NB Again don't forget when planning your coup de main that you also have your HQ launch/Gunship aboard which will act like a (starship armoured) troop carrying A10! It can carry an armoured fire team plus command elements.
Re: Avastan Planning & OOC
Note that taking the Viper's Nest, and keeping it, are two separate topics. Perhaps Twilight would buy the thing as a trophy, since we're in many ways "with her". I think Twilight is a her, anyway. Perhaps trade for a merchant ship that could carry SEMC to the target zone, since we keep having transport that isn't willing to get engaged. Can't blame them, but if things work out we might make SEMC a more mobile force.
Re: Avastan Planning & OOC
Well, with Int C and Tactics 2, Jakob can come up with good stuff occasionally. Jakob's player isn't nearly that good, but he does get lucky now and again.

There's a secondary benefit to removing the Viper's Nest. If we engage the Vargr on the east and the Aslan on the pirate ships when we rescue the Hawkwind, that gives a little bit of a gap between the two groups. I'm not sure how Aslan and Vargr get along, but them getting into a confrontation would side-track the mission.
Re: Avastan Planning & OOC
I was thinking of a quieter approach to the Hawkwind, keeping the Aslan back until we undertake the main assault later. I want to keep back as many surprises as possible and make it look as local as possible until the big one.

Re: Avastan Planning & OOC
I agree, the Aslan are when things are wide open. Taking the Viper's Nest is a "window of opportunity", a limited surgical strike before the main event. Same for the Vargr, I suppose; at that point everything is out in the open. It also buys SEMC some credibility with Aslan and Vargr; we just got here and we've already taken out one ship.shaidar wrote: ↑Tue Feb 01, 2022 5:37 pm I was thinking of a quieter approach to the Hawkwind, keeping the Aslan back until we undertake the main assault later. And if dropping it off with Erica is a good idea, then it gives her extra firepower.
And...um...I may already have a plan for "Wide Open".

Re: Avastan Planning & OOC
It's a shame we don't have two pilots, we could take the Viper, then when the others are back take the Hawkwind, then fly them both out at the same time.
Of course, if Freya flies out The Hawkwind, I'm not sure how quickly we can get her back.

Re: Avastan Planning & OOC
FWIW. I think we should also take out that patrol cruiser, either by capturing it, or damaging it enough to ground it. It's hands-down the most dangerous ship they have.

Re: Avastan Planning & OOC
Absolutely, when we recover Hawkwind we need to disable Deliverance at least, Saxon would be a bonus.
Even more ideally disable in such a way to minimise loss of worth
yeah I don't want much.

Re: Avastan Planning & OOC
That's an issue. There's a chance the Hawkwind's pilot is still operational, but we can't plan on it. Maybe one of the Alsan ladies present has enough Pilot to get it off the ground? Otherwise, if we take the Viper's Nest now, we need to send a fast transport with it to bring Freya back. Or she could fly one of the fighters, but parking it beside the SEMC transport might be suspicious.

Re: Avastan Planning & OOC
So...if we take the Nest and get Freya back, all that is doable. It needs some politicking on Frank's part and some enthusiasm from our allies, but yeah, doable. If we can clone Freya then it gets even better.
Re: Avastan Planning & OOC
If we can't find another pilot I think the only option is to disable the Viper and have Freya fly Hawkwind out, that's the thing we have to do, flying out the Viper is a bonus.
Our ship has a pilot, but I don't see the Captain letting us borrow them.
Time isn't on our side to take the Viper before everyone returns.

Re: Avastan Planning & OOC
My understanding is that the window of opportunity would give us the Viper's Nest, and then when Freya returns the rest of the team will also be back and we can plan the full assault. It would take a couple of hours to work out the details of the major assault, and get everything timed right, but it would be doable before dawn. If the Hawkwind does have a pilot, we need an option to use Freya on one of the other pirate ships.shaidar wrote: ↑Tue Feb 01, 2022 6:07 pm If we can't find another pilot I think the only option is to disable the Viper and have Freya fly Hawkwind out, that's the thing we have to do, flying out the Viper is a bonus.

Re: Avastan Planning & OOC
DIdn't we used to have a skills spreadsheet, that showed who all had what skill?
Also, I'm assuming everyone has at least Brawling-0, correct?

Re: Avastan Planning & OOC
Perhaps I have misunderstood, but I thought the main target is away from the Starport where we are, so getting the Viper and Hawkwind are both precursors to the main action.
