"I think you misunderstand. I personally don't want to risk anyone anywhere. But I see how passionate you are about this, so I was suggesting a compromise. We need more information about the dwarves and the mine, you could go do that and look for Chauncey. If the opportunity arises and you spot the captives then you would act as you see fit. You get to act now, and we get more information and the chance to find more help."
"A reconnaissance mission looking for aid and avoiding contact is a lot different than mounting a rescue mission. However, again, I'm not telling you what to do, I'm just trying to look at the big picture. If you are dead set on setting off to try a rescue, I will help in any way I can."
She will cast unseen servant to mend the carpet with its magical hands.

Re: Founding Clifftown
I have come to a conclusion about this game that some of you might not like.
I have stated fairly adamantly in the past that the town thread is NOT the game. It is only a place in the game. Though I have tried hard to let players do as they will in this Sandbox adventure, it seems to me that the ease of just slipping into town and hanging out there is too tempting for the players who feel comfortable taking extended periods of time away from their characters.
Since I don't really want "town" to become a morgue for the characters who's players have either lost interest or don't feel like posting for them anymore, I feel like something needed to be done. So, form here on out, the town thread is going to work a bit differently.
While the new town is being built up again, I am no longer going to be posting updates that have anything to do with it. There are about 20 different avenues for actual adventure outside of town at any given time, so there is no reason that we have people stuck in town not doing anything for weeks at a time. I know there are at least 2 characters that have made hanging out in town their modus operandi, which I didn't really try to prevent earlier, but the lack of any overall action, and the apparent loss of interest in investigating any other avenues of adventure in the game has forced this change.
So, other than taking care of business after an adventuring group returns to rest, heal, study, whatever, there is not going to be much else to do there for a while. It can still be used as a base of operations for groups to assemble and plan, but I wont be spending a lot of time developing it anymore. This game is obviously vast, so if I don't get more serious about guiding characters towards the goal of it all, there will never be any legitimate end in sight.
I apologize to the players who wanted to set up businesses or whatever, but I just don't have the drive or energy to spend so much time on things that aren't actually advancing the game much, if at all. If any of you are really worried about the Stonegut situation, that is about to be remedied as well, so all the discussion about how to deal with them lately is fairly moot at this point, as you will soon see.
I STRONGLY suggest that characters who still want to be active join up with a group and go do something productive together with all of the latest items and information discovered. (hopefully at least a few of you know what I mean)
I may reconsider this decision once I see more players are focusing on the tasks at hand again, but form the things I have been hearing in private threads lately, a friendly forced shove from the DM seems to be the only solution to this issue at the moment.
So! Anyone want to play D&D?

Does the US have the thread, needles, and skills to make these repairs?

Yrias
Yrias will gladly join any group that wants to investigate the obelisks.
Sorry for my "posting laziness" lately guys, but since the new year began, I've been doing little more than working and sleeping. I try to keep posting whenever I find an opening.

The Princess
She finds a tailor in town who can give her the materials needed and has the US test its skills on a small section of the carpet to see how well it can do the work.

Maag once again pitches his plan to go in search of more of the black trees.
"Captain Quark said dat 'e won't come back 'ere anymore unless 'e can turn a profit. An' der trees are der only fing 'ere dat are worth money to 'im."
"Wot is goin' to 'appen to der people 'ere wiv out Quark bringin' stuff in? Der town is in a mess as it is".

Re: Founding Clifftown
All of this.....and everything mentioned in the public threads is considered shared knowledge that everyone would have. There is no reason to think that your character wouldn't know about the obelisks or the temple just because they weren't part of that particular adventure. Characters talk. NPC's talk, a lot! This information is out there for everyone to either believe it or not.
With more adventurers returning to the new town, much discussion about the obelisks and their purpose circulates throughout the explorer types.
Sitting around the fires of the new cooking area, drinking whatever they can scrounge up with no actual tavern built yet, much discussion turns to searching more of this island.
The latest diagram found... ...shows that there must be more of these "activation" locations at the four compass points in the ring of obelisks.
The smoke obelisk must be positioned somewhere in the middle of the vast swamp area discovered to the northwest, leaving the questionable "water" obelisk on the diagram beyond that area somewhere.
Many questions are raised about the Fun House marked on the cloth, with most people wondering just what the heck a Fun House is, anyway.
The Temple location has already been confirmed, so at least any future explorers know which direction they need to travel from there.
I will get the overall map updated and posted asap, but you should be able to go off of this latest one for the time being to orient yourselves with the layout of the island.

Feanol
Will join in the discussion and push to head east to the three spot as that is a direction they have already gone and so it's closer than the 9. She will also share the map she has.
OM would you please show the map fragment?

This should be a fairly accurate overlay of the obelisk ring on the island map.

"Forming a big expedition to explore one on the obelisks can be a bit messy. Being so many of us, why don't we split in two? At least those of us who are interested in them. One group could go to the east, the other to the west. What do you say?"

Nah, it's fine, thanks. I'll manage. It's a matter of time.
Re: Founding Clifftown
Given the recent shake ups around town, both Keg, the near barbaric fighter and Liam the slightly aged and slightly less sturdy veteran both are present and volunteer to join the groups going on expedition to investigate the obelisk.
So Liam is level 1 and Keg is level 4. Not sure where they would fit best with how we divide teams, so leaving it to you guys to sort. I will watch and interact of course.

Re: Founding Clifftown
Yes, it looks like there's a spread between levels 1-4. And three pairs of characters run by one player: Daisy/Luther, Maag/TK and Liam/Keg.
Dividing into two groups with a relatively even spread of levels would work I think. But if a group is going to head for the 3 or 9 o'clock, some of the members are going to be 1st or 2nd level.
An alternative might be one group heading to a site with higher level PCs and another lower level group going somewhere else on an "easier" mission.

Re: Founding Clifftown
I can help a little, I hope.
So far the 3:00 position seems like it would be difficult to reach. High up a dangerous cliff face or out across a wyvern strewn morass. I would bet that means something.
